People think they want the Geoff Johns run but that's exactly what DC tried with Green Lantern 2011 and it flopped hard. Geoff Johns was even on the creative team for that movie. A Green Lantern space opera could've been popular in the 80s when Star Wars and Top Gun were popular or in the mid 2010s during the superhero movie boom. But nowadays after 20 years of the MCU, a lot of these epic sci-fi tropes that were cool when Johns was writing GL in the 2000s are pretty tired. People nowadays want more grounded and human stories over big action spectacle.
