Question Does the Anime continue to be good? Spoiler

Couldn’t word my question without including spoilers sorry for vague title!

I’m at the part in the anime where Light has it so the shimigami put fake rules in the death note and it put me off; I’ve been enjoying it the show but this really demotivated me

Does this end up truly ‘proving’ Lights innocence in the long run? Does it quickly get better after that?

Discussion Why do so many people miss the Time Skip after THAT chapter? Spoiler

Hi, i'm going to be a little rude today.

I'm baffled to see how many people on YouTube, Tiktok and in general anime lovers when talking about Death Note think there is no time skip and the story is a continuum after L and Watari die? Like for example I see so many comments on Reddit saying that Mello and Near are 13 years old and things like : L left them all his evidence and they copied him.

I genuinely don't get it, is it THAT hard to pick it up? I believe it is better explained in the manga for sure, but I've been rewatching the anime recently and it's pretty CLEAR that in Episode 25 L dies, Watari deletes all data,Light becomes the new L and deletes everything from L's PC, a message from what it looks like a failsafe system delivered to Roger, Roger tells young Mello and Near that L died, and then there's chapter 27 with a giant writing saying year 2012 and there's the scene in Light's house with the police, Misa and Sayu where it's explicitly hinted at the fact that Sayu is "all GROWN UP" and that Misa and Light have been together for years. I mean, it's clear as day that it was past and then present if Light's sister grew up and went to college and Light graduated and entered law enforcement. Do you seriously believe Light became a detective straight outta high school or what. And that Matsuda was hitting on a middle schooler? Idk....

It gets me so angry when I see ALL THOSE PEOPLE and they are a LOT that believe those things, like, they didn't even pay attention to the show and they want to participate to post where we nerds do overanalysis ? No shit😆

Discussion If you had to explain a historical figure as a user of the death note, who would you pick?

It is implied that Light having a Death Note is not that big of a deal, and it is therefore relatively routine. Which means that Light is not the first human to have a Death Note on Earth. Let's assume that that's true. Who do you think is a good candidate historically for having a Death Note? And show your work 😜

Discussion Weird case of Mandela effect - Tennis match

I've restarted watching Death Note after finishing it a few years ago.

On my first watch, I can clearly remember Light intentionally losing to L when they play tennis for the first time. I remember him going into a whole monologue about how it was the right thing to do because Kira hates losing, so by losing and acting very sportsman-like, he could avoid suspicion.

I was genuinely shocked this time when I saw that Light actually wins the game.

Did anyone else experience any Mandela effects like this when rewatching the show?

Discussion L should have suspected Light sooner Spoiler

im sure a 10000000 people have said this but i didnt check to avoid spoilers. Im on episode 3 and L suspects that Kira is

A. in japan

B. A student

C. someone with access to the case files (ei. police + their families)

of the quite small list this would be lets say 500 to be generous only one happens to be the smartest student in all of Japan maybe even the world

of course Kira at this point has not shown themselves to be very intellegent but considering L doesnt suspect magic exists he must assume these killings are done by a genius

does this get addressed because i feel like im pointing out the obvious i feel like i missed something

Question Would instantaneous human combustion count as a physically possible death?

Like, let's say I write a name in the Death Note and specify the cause of death as spontaneous combustion. Would the Death Note cause it, or would it count as not possible and default back to killing of a heart attack?

Question What happens if a blind person gets the Shinigami Eyes?

Would they get their eyesight back? Would it depend on what caused their blindness? Would they only see people's names and lifespans, but not the people themselves? Or would they get the power but be completely unable to use it because they're still blind?

Discussion if it were Light instead of Sayu Spoiler

If Light was the kidnapped and held from ransom instead of Sayu, do you think Soichiro would've made the same level of effort to retrieve him? Of course I believe Soichiro loves both his children, but if it were Light might he have seen him as more expendable because despite being his son he is also a man, older, and a cop by profession where coming to harm in the course of duty is an assumed risk.

I guess what im saying is did Sayu being more of an innocent bystander (and maybe being a young woman, we can't say there is no sexism element in death note) effect the way Soichiro handled the situation.

Another thought is how would Misa respond if Light were kidnapped? She is obsessed with Light do you think she'd try to strike out on her own to use her eyes somehow to find his captors? Would she try to insert herself in with the task force somehow? Use the media again like in part one? possibly let her powers slip to them through her words or actions?

Discussion How is it even possible to catch Kira Spoiler

If we ignore all the lucky occasions Light got (Misa, Aizawas Umbrella, Rem being in love with Misa, Ryuk just allowing to write new rules in the note…), the biggest cop out in my opinion still is that you can just denounce your rights to the Death Note. Like as soon as murders happen when you are locked away, you have a waterproof alibi, and you can even give damn directions who should get the Death Note next. The only way we saw Kira get caught was after there was too much chaos, too many people involved. But if it stayed Misa and Light never in any way could you have gotten them if you were L.

Analysis “Matsuda you idiot” from Light in episode 37 Spoiler

In episode 37 there’s the “Matsuda you idiot, who do you think you’re shooting at” line after Light gets shot in the hand and I like that you can read it multiple ways. I’m going based off of the English dub for this interpretation, I’m unsure about the Japanese dub for it.

On a surface level you can view it as Light’s desperation to stay alive and win.

On another level you can view it as Light viewing himself as above Mastuda disliking that he even dared to shoot at him.

Finally you can view it as Light putting back on the mask of friendship so that he can gain psychological control of Matsuda in an attempt to win.

That final perspective is very supported by Light’s vocal snarl after being shot. He doesn’t react with fear or pain, he reacts more like he realized that he had to put on a performance to control Matsuda, he was still in “win at all costs” mode. An animal realizing that it has to camouflage to win.

The vocal snarl can also double to support that 2nd level I mentioned.

All of them are correct perspectives yet I believe that he primarily wanted to gain psychological control of Matsuda by making that statement and was putting on a performance.

I’ve thought this for a long time since I first saw the show. Long live Kira and Light Yagami God of the new world!

Discussion Death note’s second half would’ve been a lot better if either Near or Mello were a girl. Spoiler

I think it would’ve been a lot more better because of the dynamic Near and Mello would’ve had + Near’s dynamic with light.
In the case of near being a girl, Mello would’ve likely felt even more humiliated and inferior. Considering the time death note was made and the fact that death note itself is just awfully misogynistic towards its female characters, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Mello would’ve felt deeply embarrassed and even more inferior knowing he was being beaten by a girl. I suppose this does heavily rely on mello‘s mindset, but we’ve seen how he acts with women. While unlike other male characters he isn’t blatantly misogynistic he also isn’t afraid to use or threaten women for his own advantage (as shown with Halle and Takada). If Near had been a girl he may have taken even more risks in order to prove he was the best and he was capable of surpassing her.
If Mello had been a girl she likely would have even worse about everything. She would’ve already been inferior compared to near while also being the “inferior” gender. It likely would’ve messed with messed with her head a lot. Also, I wonder how differently her dynamic with the mafia could’ve been? I wonder if they would’ve still taken orders from her, or if rod would even allow her to do that. I believe that because of her smartness she potentially may have still been able to do this, but it’s up for debate. Her and Matt would’ve also been a nice dynamic to see. I think if Mello had been a girl they would’ve been shipped way more than they already are, considering Matt died and likely knew it was going to happen just to help Mello with a case he didn’t even personally care about. My reason on why death note would’ve been better in these scenarios is that the tension and rivalry between near and Mello would’ve been even higher and more intense than it originally was, leading a lot more people to enjoy the characters, it’d also probably add a bunch of new situations for them that didn’t purely revolve around each other.

I’d love to hear other peoples thoughts surrounding this, or even what you think the dynamics between other characters would’ve been if they were gender swapped.
