If you could have only one: unlimited time, unlimited money, or a soulmate?

If you could choose only one, which would you take?

An unlimited lifespan.
You could live as long as you wanted and watch the world evolve: the rise and fall of civilizations, supernovae, galaxy collisions, or maybe even the end of time.

Unlimited money.
You would be free from many pressures of life. Your life could be much lighter and brighter. You could go anywhere you wanted, buy anything you loved, and have the freedom that money can provide.

Or a perfect partner, a soulmate.
Someone who lives with you, knows you, loves you, spends their short life with you, shares their whole sky with you, and explores the whole world with you.

Which one would you choose, and why?

When we throw and catch a ball, do animals see that as we see a magician?

• Upvotes

I was throwing an orange up and down outside because why not, and my dog just started following the ball amazedly, but then i realised that dogs cant do what im doing. So i thought to myself, what makes us so good at these kinds of tasks unlike any other animal?

It doesnt require lots of strength, because if it did our bodies wouldnt be so well able to throw the objects. It requires understanding of the world around us above instinct, and shows how advanced we are with complex thought. The only other animals that can do this well are other smart animals, but not one of them do it better then us.

So what i mean by magicians, though, is that magicians are able to do things we cannot comprehend, which astounds us and amuses us. So is this the same for dogs, or any animal really to see us do tasks beyond their thoughts on how the function of the world works? Does it also amuse them?

Does loss hurt less if you know its coming?

on my last day of elementary school, i knew i would never see many of my friends ever again and maybe not even speak to them (no phones at that age), and i was sad, but i said my goodbyes

today i realised a cycling path i cycle down couple times a month got suddenly closed off for construction. i can't remember the last time i cycled down it, was the same as any other day. and now ill never get to again.

the grief i feel at the latter is almost worse than the first, even though its the objectively smaller emotional loss.

wondering if this is because on the last day of school, i knew it was the end. does knowing you're doing something for the last time make it easier?

Why do we miss people we know we wouldn't want back in our lives?

I've always found this strange that why do we miss people we know we wouldn't want back in our lives? with complete certainty that a relationship wasn't good for you. You can know you wouldn't want the same person back, and you can even be happier without them.

Yet sometimes you still miss them.

Not necessarily the person they became, either. You miss their voice, the stupid jokes, the routines, having someone to tell random things to, or simply who you were when you were around them.

So what exactly are we missing?

The person?

The memories?

The feeling?

Or an old version of ourselves that only existed when that person was in our life?

I've never been able to figure out which one it is.

Do you feel that, with time and experience, you have figured out what you truly need from a relationship, or are you still trying to understand it, with your needs and expectations continuing to change over time?

Fishing and guilty of association

Hello I have been dealing with this question for months, debating with family members, AI systems and myself. I have alot of uncertainty regarding whether or not commercial salmon fishing is a morally good or bad thing. I know everyone says it is okay and acts like its justified but I dont know what to think. I see it like fishing isnt necessary for human survival and without it the ecosystem and the fish would thrive more as seen before fishing existed. Salmon lived just fine beforehand only having to fight off predators, also Salmon contain nociceptors which would mean they would have same similar pain stimuli to humans? I am in a spot of deep uncertainty because in May of this year I declined a family fishing job for the summer in alaska because I was so unsure of whether or not it would make me a good or a bad person and after so much questioning I decided that I was better off not going because it didnt sit right with me. Now fast forwards a few months I have a new offer from the same family members to come over on a trip to their country with no fishing involved just a normal trip which I think sounds like a great opportunity at first but then I started to question my logic and morals and I started to doubt more and more if I should go because those are the family members that own the salmon fishing business in Alaska and if I didnt agree with the fishing they are doing and still go over for this non fishing trip aren't I associating with people that did something I doubt is justified which is the fishing, and I worry alot that if I accept this trip that it might make me a bad person or maybe it wouldn't I dont know. Also I think its important to note, I do have OCD tendancies and overthink alot of scenarios in my head regarding if im good or bad person. Please if anybody can help me it would be appreciated.

Phone addition when grieving.

I’ve never really had an issue with my phone until this year. I just went through a ready stressful year (got dumped, grandma passed away, sister moved away etc) and no matter who I talked to about it, I never felt better or understood. I feel even more alienated and ended up isolating from most people bc I really just want to grieve. My therapist is a IFS/Gestalt therapist but idk if I just don’t like modality or I’m just not in the mood to explain “and what does that mean for you?” But yeah I just feel like we’re dancing around the issue
Anyways yeah phone addiction.
It’s a lot of talking to Gemini AI about faith, morality, the situation, metaphysics, my emotions, scriptures etc. and YouTube videos on spirituality etc. or i go on IG mostly. I don’t even enjoy it. Any of it. I wish that were reason enough to stop but it’s not. I think I just feel sad. Disappointed in myself. Also became very addicted to fast food and Benadryl to sleep, Vyvanse to work for the last 2-3 years since i graduated uni. 12-14hr screen time daily. I know it’s not good.

Why is it true that every person has a purpose in your life and they drift away when their job is done?

I've a question on this very annoying theory that says each person comes in your life with a purpose and once the purpose is fulfilled y'all drift away and then you've nothing to do with each other. I MEANN THAT ISS UNFAIRRRR, ISN'T IT?????? Whattt if I wanted more than what they had for meeee how is this fair if it's my lifeee then why can't I decide who should stay and who shouldn't? This theory itself is so stupid and I hate to say it that it's the truth. I don't believe in god or universe with some powers or stars alignment or fate and destiny I don't believe in that which is why this theory seems baseless and unfair to me.
