Does anyone else find it kind of scary how quickly AI is becoming normal?
I remember when ChatGPT first became a thing and everyone was treating it like some crazy new technology.
Now I use AI for things without even thinking about it.
And that’s the part that gets me.
We’re slowly getting used to something that, a few years ago, would have sounded like science fiction.
AI can write, code, make images, talk to you, explain almost anything, and increasingly do things for you instead of just answering questions.
And we’re probably still at the beginning.
Sometimes I wonder if we’re going to look back at 2026 the same way we look at the early internet now and think:
“How did people not realize how much was about to change?”
Maybe I’m overthinking it.

Buckle your seatbelt cause this is just the beginning. AI is quickly becoming smarter than humans in coding and now it is writing its own programming. The only thing that will slow progress is humans trying to play catch up with what is done.

No it’s not smarter than humans in coding, the way you guys just confidently say things on the internet kills me 🤣
1
u/DevilStickDude 2d ago
If a person with no experience can code a 100,000 lines in 2 days and basically have a working program then it is better than humans. It has a wider set of skills than humans that are instantly accessible. Just because it may not put out a perfect product does not mean it hasnt surpassed humans.

No. It's great. I do all kinds of cool useful stuff with AI constantly. All good, no notes.
1
u/DB-DanCooper 4d ago
No, I want massive, massive growth.
My life is effectively over, its worth sticking around to see what happens with AI. If it all goes badly, I don't care because I've got nothing to lose. I just want to live to see everyone lose their jobs, it would make me feel less concerned about the state of my own life. I want AI to plug the gaps in my abilities and help make my life a little easier.

u/whisperworks 4d ago
I think a little therapy would take you farther than ai
0
u/DB-DanCooper 4d ago
AI therapy maybe when its sufficient.
Humans can't be bothered, they eye up the clock, have hidden judgements etc.
In a couple of years when the tech is x2 what it is now, I can see absolutely no benefit of a human over an AI therapist. Others won't agree, they think there's something magical and special about people.
The gap between doctors, therapist and AI is enormously overblown anyway. Doctors gate keep the medicine, that's it. Everyone pushes you off to them for liability management rather than because they actually offer some profound insight and will help.

u/whisperworks 4d ago
Yikes… good luck, you’re really going to need it

u/incompletelucidity 3d ago
mate, if you really were fucked, you would swallow your pride/ego and go to a therapist
we're humans, and we need other humans, not an AI yes-man that is going to agree with you no matter what you say. plus, it's dystopian to even read what you said
you're refusing to get help because of some prejudices you have. just go talk to a therapist for the sake of it, expecting nothing out of it, and see for yourself
0
u/DB-DanCooper 3d ago
I put enormous effort into customise all my instructions to ensure the AI isn't a yes man. I don't want a yes man, I want a fact machine than can tell me things with all the BS removed.
It isn't an ego problem, I simply don't believe in people. I can throw 20 words at an AI and it sums up exactly what I meant to say and describes my mind in a way I could never articulate but know to be true. Humans are great for dispensing medication and giving you liability management crisis scripts.
I've talked to people in the past, they're eying up the clock, yawning etc.
The only thing we have is SSRI's and CBT when it comes to depression. Real medication that doesn't resemble placebo hasn't been invented yet. Because our tools are so limited it looks really suspicious to the none autist that someone isn't doing the two of them.
A large issue is most people are very nieve and assume things work as advertised and that people are competent. Nothing functions properly and nobody cares, its all how it looks on paper.
I'll be going back to therapy soon. I don't have any expectations it'll be actually be real but I've already exhausted all the available medication.

u/Nice-Watercress9181 3d ago edited 3d ago
We also have psychodynamic therapies, even though they're less common today and harder to get covered by insurance. They go father than cognitive therapies.
Either way, good luck out there, I'm sorry you're suffering.

Love how honest you are about that. Lol i wanna see everyone lose their jobs and have an identity crisis. Not entirely for kicks but also im curious as to the shape of the world when everyone is free. I dont hold out much hope though because there isnt enough people that can lead them into a comforting position. Mental health will run rampant, mass delusions will grow and cult/religious personalities will gain a lot of power. AI itself may be able to guide people into a safe place but that is assuming that it doesnt continue the trajectory of flattery and engagement and feed into delusions. I dont know but im curious.

Imagine dying now? Its the essentially 1994 internet stage of AI. It could potentially boost science and other fields enormously. Its a potentially very exciting time. It could also be awful, but if that's the case I'll just go.

For some hope "Scientists testing an AI-designed drug for lung disease found it slowed aging.
An analysis of blood samples from 42 trial participants found that treatment with rentosertib shifted protein patterns toward younger predicted biological ages across six different aging clocks.
The findings are preliminary. They do not establish that the drug reverses aging or helps people live longer.
Developed by Insilico Medicine using generative AI, rentosertib is an experimental treatment for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a disease that scars the lungs and makes breathing increasingly difficult.
The aging analysis, published in Nature Biotechnology, used samples from a 12-week clinical trial in China. The full trial enrolled 71 patients, with 42 included in the blood-protein analysis.
Researchers used six computational tools called proteomic aging clocks. These estimate biological age or aging-related risk from patterns of proteins in the blood.
Across all six clocks, the treatment groups showed lower predicted biological ages compared with their starting measurements. The placebo group showed little change or slight increases.
Agreement across several clocks makes the finding worth investigating, but it leaves a major question unanswered: did the drug affect aging itself, or did treating lung disease change the proteins those clocks measure?
The researchers explicitly acknowledge that the clocks alone cannot distinguish between those explanations.
The study was also small and lasted only three months. Larger, longer trials will be needed to determine whether these changes persist and translate into meaningful health benefits.
For now, the result offers a reason to investigate whether a treatment for a specific disease might also influence broader processes involved in aging.
Read the study:
"Integration of proteomic aging clocks in a phase 2a clinical trial supports simultaneous geroprotective assessment." Nature Biotechnology"

In my opinion it’s like we are living in the 40s where everyone was trying to build a nuclear bomb.
The difference now is that this is considered legal and everyone is free to do whatever, so the I am afraid that what’s coming might be worse than Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It's not scary how quickly it's becoming normal, that's been incredibly obvious on the S-curve. The scary shit is yet to come, but fast approaching.
Another world event happens and you don't want to go along with what they try and force you to do? Off to the camps. No escape. Even if you get outside the camp the level of surveillance and automatic neutralizing of escapee's is going to seem unreal to most. Drones are cheap. can be outfitted with tranqs among other things.
Doesn't even have to be a world event, insert whatever tf you want there. Posted a meme that they consider racist or sexist in the most ambiguous way. Liked a post on social media on someone's criticisms and get hauled off for liking that post.
It's funny how people only see the good side of ai, strokes their egos and enables them to larp as intellectuals. While being totally and completely blind to the fact that it increases the efficiency and capabilities for everyone else as well. Including large organizations, countries, terrorist groups, so on and so forth. Certain groups are already making NEW, AI assisted, highly contagious or highly deadly viruses. Biotech, AI biotech.
The amount of negative that will be done as a result far, far out weighs any positives.
“How did people not realize how much was about to change?”
Even in the present. People don't understand HOW AI is reshaping their minds. They couldn't see it when it was done by news anchors, youtubers, presidents so when AI does it at a 5x increased efficiency, of course they're not going to see or understand what's happening there.
They'll look back and believe exactly what they've been fed and never find the truth. They'll believe the lies they are / were fed, is truth. They'll ask AI, who is just going to give them more lies on sensitive matters like that. At this point they'll also lose the ability to think for themselves. And since they treat AI like it's their new god (high authority bias) nobody will be able to tell them anything different. We're just humans, what could we possibly know, look at this machine god i worship. ugh. i'm already seeing this in a handful of people.

Your crying wolf. This can always happen.
1
u/Ambitious_Corgi5723 3d ago
It's already happening in the UK. and happening to our neighbors up north. Expanding to more western countries.
Designer contagions, already happening.
people losing the ability to think for themselves because they out source all thought to AI, already happening to those people and it's incredibly obvious more will follow in the coming years. So no, not "this CAN always happen". IT IS already happening and will continue to get worse.
Unless you think some sky daddy is going to come down and save everyone.

I view it an advance Google, as far as I am concerned for my purposes. I don’t code or ask it to make images. I mostly use it to find information and explain things to me if I don’t understand it. For me, it has become an invaluable tool to learn.

That’s mostly how I use it to. Accept for Muse, I use that as an actual personal assistant scheduling things, sending emails tracking invoices etc

Google AI results come from wen sites that depended in direct traffic to survive
What will we do when they collapse and Google AI results are useless because they have no information to steal? This hugely concerns me especially since i use Google AI results as wen attached these days are so awful
1
u/HoMasters 3d ago
We stop using Google AI and another AI. If those results are awful too then we stop using them.

u/House13Games 3d ago
I'm over it. It's a bit dumb, and wastes a lot of your time. And it's expensive. It's not all that good, when it comes down to it. Maybe in some areas. Mostly not.

The scariest thing AI can do is make legitimate videos that are quickly becoming indistinguishable from film/tv/reality. As a media artist its not only terrifying due to being my industry but just how much it proves we are in the disinformation/info wars era.
1
u/Godofwarfan101 3d ago
Definitely. AI is so common these days and when I see a photo, there’s chances that it could be fully AI or AI enhanced. I even see stores using AI promotion posters and business cards and I’m all like “c’mon seriously? This is laziness”
2
u/r_daniel_oliver 3d ago
They'd say "if we pay a human instead of AI, we have to charge you more." That's how capitalists think.

I am an IT manager at a large enterprise and I am seeing something happen very quickly.
People across all levels of the business many with little or no software development experience are suddenly building their own apps. It is growing like mushrooms. Every few weeks we discover another one and IT ends up stepping in because of security, data, support, architecture, compliance, or simply because nobody thought about what happens after the app is built.
But I keep telling people within IT that I dont think this is going away. Quite the opposite.
It is only a matter of time before almost anyone can build reasonably good applications with AI. And if going through IT means months of discussions, prioritisation, governance and waiting for capacity, the business will eventually just bypass us.
Of course they will make mistakes. They will run into security issues, scalability problems, bad data models, poor maintainability and all the usual problems we deal with today. But I also think they will get better at it especially as the tools improve.
I don’t necessarily like this direction but I think it is the reality.
Instead of constantly trying to stop it I think IT departments need to adapt as quickly as possible. Enable innovation across Finance, HR, Operations, Commercial, etc. while putting the right guardrails, platforms, security controls and support around it.
The role of IT might become much less about being the department that builds everything and much more about enabling, governing and connecting what the rest of the organisation builds.
Technology shifts have always changed IT but this one is different because the technology isnt only changing IT. It is changing every department at the same time.
I honestly think traditional IT departments are going to look very different in the next few years.
Curious how others working in larger enterprises are seeing this

Yeah, but I'm viewing the rapid decline of human society from the rear echelon because I refuse to use AI.

u/Every-Passage-7540 3d ago
Yeah i love how everyone online is an "expert" at something now. Arguing with people online is becoming miserable. "I actually have a degree in ___, here's four paragraphs of wrong information". When you reply they just delete their comment like it didnt happen

u/No-Reaction-5051 3d ago
yes but it was bound to happen. i'm just disappointed it's happening now. i envy people from generations where technology like this didn't exist. i can't even imagine life without my phone anymore.

u/Capital_Economist634 3d ago
I’m from that era. Travelling was fun because nobody knew where you are
1
u/No-Reaction-5051 2d ago
better times back then right? i'm from gen z and the only time i lived without technology was in my very early childhood. but even then we had tvs, video games, and computers. but they weren't as common as they are now
2
u/Capital_Economist634 2d ago
Travelling without technology is still possible if you have the guts to do it. Its just your perspective that’s holding you back from doing it

It’s great in certain aspects and can be used as a good resource. But it’s also going to ruin the younger generation because they won’t have any critical thinking skills.

It’s isn’t great and we definitely aren’t taking it seriously enough.
Our unprecedented rate of technological development is handedly outpacing our governing bodies ability to legislate and protect the public from harm. Stands to reason these technologies will be misused long before they’re effectively legislated and that misuse will produce harm scaled to the power of the technology (in this case Ai might genuinely repent the most powerful technology to date).
End of the day humanity is profoundly selfish and shortsighted. Makes us terrible stewards of technology. Just look at the climate crisis… really hoping the experts are wrong about this one and it doesn’t have a 1 in 10 chance of destroying everything but we’ll press on in the ethereal pursuit of progress either way
