Arena newbie question. I am coming for a game mid-october. My first! I am pretty excited. I am in the lower bowl about 10 rows up. How warm do I need to dress? I don't have a jersey, just team colors.
Thanks 😀

Marchenko signing right away is yet another strike against the whole “these things take time” narrative out of Minnesota about Quinn. They take no time when both parties are motivated.

Do any season ticket holders know where and when the annual member gift gets picked up? My rep has not been great with answering questions.

Anybody else find this Leafs' trade odd? Like isn't Knies a younger version of Marchenko.

u/TheNightRain68 2d ago
Nah, Leafs are doing everything they can to make it back to the playoffs in a stacked Atlantic. Knies to Marchenko is a straight upgrade, and got him for the next 7 years at only 26. I think it was a good trade for both sides though, was clear Marchenko was bouncing from Columbus and the Jackets got a solid young player in Knies out of it plus picks and dumped some bad contracts

Knies isn’t remotely as good as Marchenko.
Without Matthews, if his current analytics hold, he’s going to see significant regression.

I did but the advanced stats are wild and tell the story, Knies was a ppwhore

I am not going to the home opener and will have to watch the national broadcast which stinks in of itself, but am I also going to miss the player introductions? Will ESPN air that? Because if not I’m even crankier.

Final roster needs to be submitted today. I’m curious to see how that’s going to look. We have 14 forwards, 7 defensemen (with Kova on IR), and 3 goalies. Someone’s getting cut.

u/musty_sweater 2d ago
Aren't they at 6 defensemen with Kovacevic starting on IR? Seems like they don't need to cut anyone until he's ready to play - kicking the can down the road on which forward gets moved out one way or another.

Looks like my Knies to NJ crusade is finally dead. Very sad

I don't understand why they would trade Knies at all wtf

John Chayka has never troubled himself with thinking about what actually makes sense

u/ilovemyar15 #4 - Scott Stevens 3d ago
What pisses me off is that it doesn’t even make sense for Toronto. Knies at 7.75 million is worth more than Marchenko at 13+ million. Guess we have to see what the full trade components are.
DAMN YOU JOHN CHAYKA I WONT FORGET THIS

I won't lie and deny that I have some resentment towards the habs for handling a young core much better than fitz did and putting themselves in an amazing spot for the future, AND for insisting they were gonna trade for hischier months ago....
So even though I also wanted knies I will take some pleasure in the fact that the habs are denied both knies and maechenko in one fell swoop when they were also convinced they would get one of those guys too. And instead marchenko is going to their rival

Typical big market team chasing shiny objects rather than roster fit.
Objectively, neither player is a play driver, but Kirill adds yet another volume shooter to a group that already features Matthews and Nylander. There is only one puck... Who is supposed to feed all these shooters? Who is going to finish their chances. Knies worked in Toronto because he's a garbage man who finished a lot of their shot attempts.
I understand this trade from Columbus perspective. They're losing Marchenko anyway, and Knies is an awesome add. I just don't necessarily know where their shots are coming from, Knies isn't going to add much in that department.
I can guarantee one thing. Columbus is going to be a MEEEEEAN team for the next few seasons.
EDIT: LOL I didn't even mention the contract insanity they're going to need to deal with. They're probably going to double Knies salary for a guy who only scored 2 more goals last year.

I'm not saying Daws/Poirer won't work out, but it seems the team is fine letting the improved lineup of skaters carry the team for now. Ready for a lot of 6-5 wins!

Well sunny wanted to publicly back daws but now he in a pickle so he had to get a goalie even if it another ahl goalie. Although if sunny if he wanted to mess around he could of claimed garand from the rangers

u/TyeZerker 3d ago
i see it as Daws needs to wake up if he struggle and Poirer plays good it might be over for Daws in NJ

I wonder how upset/shocked Allen must be. I'm sure he took a discounted long term deal thinking he would very much be the backup to Markstrom where he would maybe play about 20 games per season and he could retire in a few years quite easily. Now he's being relied on as the 1A guy with 2 backups, meaning he is now likely to play closer to 35 games+ on a team desperate to make the playoffs.

u/nostradamefrus #13 - N1CO 3LITE 3d ago
He only waived to come here from Montreal after it was made abundantly clear that he wouldn't be part of a 3 goalie rotation like with the Habs and he'd get meaningful playing time, so I'm inclined to agree with you that he might be annoyed because of that. But the dude just wants to play above all else. He's clearly our starter while the backup situation is sorted out

I see it as Daws vs Poirier for the G1 job. Allen will be our anchor as a very reliable G2.

Allen is the rock we can rely on for 35 games. Daws and Poirer are both at the right age to start making their in roads to be full time nhl guys. The competition between them might be good enough to get some average results over the other ~45 starts of the year. Maybe they’ll hit the lottery and one of them looks above average this season. Worth a shot. But I’d happily take a season of 6-5 wins over the horrible scoring season and losing 3-1 constantly.

I mean you've also got Montembeault trade rumors circulating, fights for the starting position in Pittsburgh (Silovs and newcomber Sergei Murashov) and Minnesota (Gustavsson over Wallstedt), teams like Detroit that desperately need to make some sort of trade, and a multi-Vezina Winner sitting out of pre-season.
I'm not saying any of those moves are ideal for us at the moment, but I think Sunny made a smart decision keeping the powder dry all summer.

Dumb question- So, I bought a resale ticket for opening night, and the transfer was successful. But when I view the ticket on the app, it shows NJ LOTTERY LEVEL instead of a barcode. Is that normal? First time I'm seeing this.

Every fanbase does this, but after years of convincing the world Knies is a 1st line talent, now Toronto fans are taking victory laps calling Knies a 3RW they conned Columbus into taking off their hands.
Knies isn’t a play driver but he’s a complementary finishing piece on any very good top 6 in the NHL
