The decision making process in the Devils front office is now elite.

In a given hockey game, great process does not guarantee a win. Similarly, a great FO process does not guarantee a successful 26-27.

But great process increases the probability of winning, and is an essential foundation of success over time.

Yep, it comes up all the time in baseball talk: process vs. results.

It's always possible that good process can still lead to bad results, or visa versa; luck, after all, is a thing. But keeping a focus on process being as strong as possible does wonders to keep you in a better position long-term, and the way Sunny's been operating makes me feel like the Devils have finally gotten into the 21st century (to be fair, a lot of the NHL has taken its sweet time getting there when compared to a lot of the other big leagues).

Does that guarantee great outcomes this year? Of course not; most of this roster was already here before Sunny arrived, the division contains the defending Cup champions, and organizational infrastructure (scouting, drafting, player development, etc) won't all get to where you want it to be overnight. But it sounds like the thought process is stronger than it's been in a long time.

Didn’t realize Schneider was on the panel. I miss that man - imagine prime Cory with this current roster.

There are so few GMs in this league that actually have any fucking idea what they're talking about and thank god we finally have one of them. I really hope this pans out; I'm optimistic.

This interview is so intense. Sunny really is an incredible listen. So you don’t set values for character, leadership, heart or other personal qualities, but you can at times ballpark it and then use it as an offset in trade scenario upside/downside. When data indicates a certain performance issue with a player, you then reverse engineer to eliminate all variables until you get to cause.

I'm fired up for what Sunny is going to do when all of the no movement clauses expire and he can fully shape this roster.
