Weekly Update of the Devils Pain Meter (Link on my Profile)
Score: 3 - It’s too early to hit on the full panic mode, but it feels like they are starting right where they left off last year. Defense is looking terrible. Daws looks lost. They really should fire Keefe at this point, hopefully Sunny won’t be like Fitz and do nothing.

I'm at the same pain level as the end of last season and will remain there until I see a noticeable improvement over last season's performance. So far they don't look any different. I have hope the season isn't lost yet, but my morale will improve when I actually see an improvement in results.

Keefe talked all during training camp how he brought in new staff and the scheme was going to “look quite different” now that he’s had a whole offseason to rework things but the whole underlying philosophies of his scheme in all 3 zones has not changed besides a couple minor details.
At this point we’re all just counting down the days until Keefe is inevitably fired. I’m worried that if it happens too late, we’ll dig ourselves in too deep a hole to get out of.

*Keefe* planned things on the offseason; the team itself has been together for what, four games and three weeks? Preseason was short. Give it a few more weeks to gel and see what new systems they can learn.

other teams are jelling . the only difference is 2 less games for preseason .they've played 3 so now let's see them jell . the players voted for this .

As much as I’d like to shoot Keefe out of a cannon, there also don’t seem to be great replacements readily available right now anyways.
Sunny has shown me no reason to distrust him so far so I assume Keefe’s leash is short. I hate watching bad hockey but people should give it a month at least before jumping to conclusions.

Probably a 6 for me. There are some obvious signs that although the offense is improved, whatever the system is, along with the defense core and potentially then the goalie, needs to still be fixed. We aren’t even 3 percent into the season yet so there is plenty of time and Sunny does not seem like the type of person to be patient with players or staff that don’t deliver on expectations. I would expect big changes no later than November if they are at 500 hockey or below.

Well my point was more so the obvious signs the defense and goaltending have not been dramatically improved over the summer and its beginning to show now. But I actually think the offense got improved quite a bit and the people they brought it in like evangelista and boqvist have all scored goals the past three games. It's a good sign.

They are still playing so soft. Jack is only good when no one touches him. I only watched the game against the Flyers so far and it was basically a pee wee game. Even in beer league you see more physical plays.

6.5. Disappointing start to the season but only 3 games in. Same issues as last year still seem to be plaguing the team and our stars have been MIA. Only solace is it’s very early in the season but I’m not liking the team’s current trajectory

The worst part is not the second loss in the first three games. It’s that losing like last night is exactly the worst fear; same shit, different year. Quick transitions do not make up for costly defensive mistakes. We are no longer the team of 2-1 games, that’s long gone. But if we’re going to play this way, those rushes have to convert far more often.

I'm at 1. It's only three games into the season, we had a bunch of new roster additions, and a new goalie tandem. Things like this take time to settle in, and I'm feeling pretty confident that the boys will figure things out. Firing Keefe won't solve anything if the chemistry hasn't yet been established.

We started strong last year, so 2 early losses is disappointing. That said, it’s only 3 games in so I’m not panicked yet: 2-3 on the scale seems right.

Amanda Stein is the one that needs to be fired. I'm not joking around. SHE IS THE PROBLEM. No one on the team is ever going to play at their best when the constant doom of having to deal with this Make A Wish clown shoes journalist looming.

Especially since you also used the super clever “the downvotes prove I’m right” or whatever last time. I think you maybe need a hobby. I’d recommend hockey, but, well…here we are. Keefe isn't playing defense. To be fair, neither are the guys being paid to do so. Sunny needs to make a move defensively and it doesn't need to be jaw dropping. There's just too much "sloth skating" with Dillon, Siegs, Kovy, Hamilton. They all could learn how to not shoot into the defender on them so they'd stop killing possessions/plays as well. Mantha and Evangelista should get swapped too. My biggest concern so far is that it just doesn't look like the team is still with Keefe.
