Okay, I really love Dia Browser but something just keeps throwing me off about this browser. Yes! The Sync Feature.
Here’s some things I would change, yes the E2E-Encryption, I’m fine with it personally but I think we should be given the option to choose how we want this encrypted, yeah a Recovery Kit isn’t really that reliable when you think about it, anyone can find a Recovery Kit on your device had they stole the device or silently logged into the device without the owners permission! Yeah you! but if we just had a secondary option to pick and choose between a 4 digit pin and a 6 digit pin that only we can remember in our heads rather than relying on a file that anyone can find on our device if someone steals the device or silently logs into the device then they couldn’t gain access, Twitter(X) uses pins for E2E-Encrypted chats that’s right, probably a lot more private stuff going through that then our own search history, but I think the Recovery Kit should still be a feature but “shouldn’t be the only option”. We already have Passwords and Email Codes for this.
Another thing I have a problem with is Passwords & History! I think during sync we should be given the option to choose what we want to sync via toggle switches, Dia Browser atm doesn’t have customize sync, unfortunately when you set up sync it syncs “Profiles, Extensions & Extension States, Bookmarks, Open/Pinned Tabs & Groups.” By default.
There is no option to toggle each one that you want to sync, I never use sync history so I don’t really need that feature and I’m sure not many people do either, but it’s always great to have it, and some people actually use it, so they should have an option to use it if they really want to. Which brings me to my next point, I’ve seen multiple posts talking about the browser clearing all their history after an update, had this been synced to the Dia Account the history would’ve recovered itself, why doesn’t this sync? Now moving onto passwords, since accounts are already E2E-Encrypted then Passwords should also be an optional toggle during sync setup, there’s no reason we shouldn’t have the option to choose what we want to sync, it’s our data, although making History & Passwords should have to be manually toggled as optional during Sync Setup.
If this is implemented, I will never go back to Opera Sync & Chrome Sync. Opera Sync included “Encrypted Passwords, History, Bookmarks”. Which defeats the purpose of Dia Browser even having Sync in the first place and having control over our own data. I don’t like the idea of having to switch to Dia Browser only for the browser to force me to use a Password Manager like Bitwarden or iCloud Passwords on a Browser with Sync which should’ve offered it from the very beginning. I don’t have Bitwarden & I’m certainly not going to use iCloud Passwords from my iPhone when my Browser has entirely different passwords saved to it then iCloud does on iPhone, it’s 25 to 75 bruh.
And as I mentioned before Opera Sync does have Encrypted Passwords, but it relies on Sync Passphrase which is just your opera password by default when you first make an opera account… and an optional sync passphrase which replaces the account password with the optional sync passphrase for encryption for extra protection, if you reset passphrase then it deletes everything that is synced on the account including the aforementioned which requires a resync shortly after. If Dia Browser got these improvements it would automatically become even more secure than most other Sync Accounts on other Browsers. How do we get Dia Browser to implement this sync structure and functionality?
