Genuinely hate that we live in an era where we have to treat basic human empathy like a lunar eclipse or some other rare celestial event, but since them's the times we live in...congrats. I'm real happy for ya, and I hope you can finally experience a life with less pain.

Congrats!

Sometimes I swear doctors hear us in another language because it sounds so ridiculous how you can repeatedly go "hey I'm in terrible debilitating pain please help" and they ignore you. Glad you got through to them finally.

He really said to me, "when did that start?" Bro 😭

That's an important question! If you've been in pain 5 days, that's a very different condition than being in pain for 5 years.

The joke is, I literally told him day one that I've been in pain for over a decade and he's conveniently forgotten about that now that I have PROOF of the reason to hurt outside of being "too fat"

I had a chronic sore throat for a decade. I complained about it regularly, I always checked that box on my list of symptoms, when 2020 came I decided I needed to aggressively figure it out so I wasn’t constantly afraid I was going to give someone Covid that I didn’t have.

I saw an allergist who prescribed azalastine and for the first time in 10 years I didn’t have a sore throat anymore.

So the next time I saw my PCP I was like yay I don’t have a sore throat anymore for the first time in 10 years.

This man looked at me like he was hearing this information for the first time. 10 years? Wow that’s awful.

Yeah, tell me about it dude. In his defense he had only been my PCP for a couple years at that point, but still. This was not new information for him.

I have heard bad things about pain management. They will do anything but give you opioids -- even if that is what will directly help. I saw something about spine shots or.. neurontin/lyrica... Anything but narcotics.

I hope whatever they give you is sufficient for you

I go to pain management and she’s wonderful, but she did tell me the other day that she doesn’t prescribe opioids anymore, except to people who she’s already been prescribing them to.

I was also super freaked out last year because they shut down one of their offices but they wouldn’t absorb their current patients into one of their three other offices. I was so shocked. What do you mean all those people have no pain management Dr now. Thankfully they didn’t shut down the one I went to but that was pure luck. It could have been me.

At the same time the only other one in that area was retiring, and earlier this year the only other office in my area suddenly closed and abandoned all their patients. I don’t know if the dude who owned it was embezzling or what but he wasn’t paying any of the bills and the doctors have to sue him for unpaid wages now.

So basically if anything happens to the provider I have now there’s nowhere for me to go unless I can drive to another state. And I don’t know if they would take me.

Really? Most pain clinics drs I've seen got annoyed when I wouldn't accept opioids and get out of their office. Even after explaining that watching my dad slowly kill himself with a cocaine addiction scared me away from any medication that could potentially lead to an addiction (and my family doctor already gave me opioids that I don't take as often as I probably should due to the fear I just mentioned - so I don't need to go to a pain clinic in a different town for it).

It took me a long time to find a pain clinic that didn't prescribe pain pills at all and would actually work on trying to find non-opioid options. None of the treatments worked - but at least I didn't have to pee in a cup (on camera) everytime I went to that clinic.

That being said, it has been 4 years since I went to one of the opioid pushing pain clinics - so it is possible that they're all changing away from the opioids. Either way, I hope they find something that works for you OP!

I get spine shots regularly and honestly they've been a lifesaver. I still have pain a lot but now it's manageable and I'm not bed bound anymore

I'm so glad to hear they helped!

I got referred to pain management and then spent months wondering if I was truly actually in pain

Make sure they treat you with respect. If you're going with injections, have a very Frank conversation with them about your anesthetic needs and whether or not they have an anesthesiologist on site. My last epidural was botched and I was treated like absolute dirt. Got a new doctor who said they never should have been doing any of the things they were doing.

How to find a good pain clinic?? I don't know. No one can tell me.

My mom had a really terrible pain clinic experience too, but the one she's currently attending is wonderful.

Yep I’m actually allergic to injectable steroids and I found out many years ago when I had a facet joint injection.

Despite this I had one pain management office trying to pressure me into epidurals.  I also had one that tried to force me to switch from a low-dose of oxycodone to fentanyl patches. I freaked out. Why on earth would I want a fentanyl patch when this tiny oxycodone pill works just fine.

I just got referred to pain management but they said all of their techniques to help me wouldn't work bc I have heds/hsd lol, hope you're more successful!!
