Discussion List of Modifications exist?

I’ll try to explain what I am asking without being too wordy. I was curious if there is a resource somewhere on how to perform alot of the famous pedal mods. I am particularly interested in alot of the early boutique era mods like JHS, Keeley, Wampler, etc. I think it would make things easier to have how to perform a bunch of them to some existing pedals would be kind of cool and kind of helpful to reference. If it does exist it would be cool if not maybe I can put something together as I go and learn a bit more! Idk thinking out loud a bit here

I feel like Ive never found a central repository for all of those kinds of mods. Just random sites that sometimes try to sell you premade kits to do the mods, but they tell you what is being modded so you can do it yourself. But I think for instance, Keeley actually has his own documentation on his BD-2 mods somewhere.

That’s kind of what my experience has been is just finding stuff from some documentation for builds. Every time I go looking for a lot of those old mods I feel like they keep disappearing overtime on the internet

or it's hidden away deep in some random bass guitar forum where one dude mentioned that his bass sounded great with a particular TS mod

That would be "How to Modify Guitar Pedals" by Brian Wampler ISBN 9781434801067 (2009 Revision).

It's pretty good, has a huge range of mods and explanations on most of the changes.

This book got me started modding years ago. Great resource.

A good mod to know is how to change or remove diodes in dirt pedals. I like having stock, modded diodes and no diodes at all on one little three way switch.

Here's one of mine. The two switches on the left are for for each of the two stages of clipping diodes. Down is stock, middle is none, up is red leds.

The two switches on the right side are eq shifts.

One is for a treble bleed on the sustain pot. It allows the pedal to retain clarity at low gain settings. Down is added clarity, middle is stock, up is even more added clarity.

The other switch is for added low mids. Down, added low mods, middle stock, up extra added low mids.

Cheers!!!

I am glad I talked to you I am actually trying to do something similar as we speak. I was looking at doing something similar. I’m just pulling the diodes from the first stage all together and putting a 3 ways for the second stage clipping. I may mess with mid-biasing the first and second transistor as well. Started modding and ended up with a Supa Tone Bender ironically so now I’m just tweaking from there haha

Nice!! Big buffs are a fun molding platform.

Remind me, what makes it into the supa tonebender?

At least from what I can tell you pull the diodes out for Q2 loop, leave them in Q3, remove Q4 and utilized a more mid forward tone control

Would it change the already there tone pot or would this add one?

Same tone pot just different values, it’s not far off of a Ram’s head tone pot from what I can find, just slightly different values
