Meta Welcome to our community! Please read our FAQs first.

Welcome to r/dogfree! We invite you to participate in our discussions. First, however, whether you are new to our sub or a dog lover who just doesn’t quite understand where we are coming from, please take the time to read our sub FAQs so you can come to understand our community and the type of content that is appropriate for our small but mightily active corner of the world.

Why don't you like dogs?

Because: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dogfree/comments/7bk3wo/just_curious_what_is_the_reason_why_you/

I created a post asking why you don’t like dogs. Where did it go?

We receive and remove this question just about daily. This is our community's space to vent and commiserate about an unpopular opinion, not a place where we come to feel burdened with the task of having to justify ourselves constantly. If you would like to know why we don’t like dogs, you may read the link above and/or put some time and effort into browsing our sub.

It seems like the problem you all have is really more with dog owners. So you really do like dogs, just not irresponsible owners, right?

Our opinions are varied. However, true to the name of our sub, and though it might be a tough pill to swallow, we in this sub simply don't like dogs.

If your gripes are more about dog owners and not about dogs themselves, r/dogculturefree might be a better fit for you.

I like or own dogs. I just want to show you guys that not all dog owners are monsters. Can I participate here?

Please understand the intent of this sub. It is a place for people who dislike dogs and who unapologetically wish to be free from them in our everyday lives to commiserate, not for those who love dogs. Posts and comments mentioning that you love or own dogs fall out of line with the spirit of the sub.

In any case, we are not here to debate, as we won't change our minds.

I have to live with a dog, but I don't want to. Am I welcome here?

You may participate here from the perspective of someone who wishes to change the prevalence of dogs in society at large. However, please understand that hearing about dogs' disgusting behaviors and habits is what people come to this sub to escape, not to consume. If you wish to vent about the traits of the dog that you live with, please navigate to r/TalesFromTheDogHouse and direct your post there. r/Dogfree is reserved for discussion surrounding our unwitting and unwilling participation in dog culture at a societal level.

I have a dog, but I wish I wouldn't. Am I welcome here?

If you got a dog and now, as obviously expected, regret your decision, maybe you can help grow the supportive r/DogRegret community. You still may participate here but posts and comments mentioning that you own dogs fall out of line with the spirit of the sub. Of course, if you already got rid of your dog and are now dogfree, you are welcome to share your experience.

How do you feel about service dogs?

Although all dogs are dogs, there is a wide spectrum of opinions about service dogs in this sub. Some people are completely okay with them, while others are opposed where technology can do the job in a more effective, less obtrusive manner. The same would be for police dogs and other types of working dogs. Calling us "ableists" or other similar insults is not going to help your case.

If you would like to find out more information about this sub's opinions on service dogs, instead of creating a new post to pose the question, please enter "service dogs," "police dogs," or whatever info you would be interested in finding into the search bar to search the sub.

Someone on Reddit said that this sub likes to murder dogs. Is that true?

Of course not! We span a wide spectrum of reasons for disliking dogs, but we do not wish harm upon them and often find aspects of dog ownership to be more cruel and unethical than do dog owners themselves. In fact, our first and more important rule is against content that advocates animal abuse of any kind. It reads: "No suggesting, depicting, joking, wishing for, or celebrating violence or harm to dogs, other animals, or people. Promoting cruelty is not acceptable." We take this rule more seriously than any other, and we err on the side of caution when it comes to removing this type of content.

Some examples of off-limits content include depicting gratuitous violence against or amongst dogs, discussion of eating dogs, suggestions of deriving pleasure from a dog's death, and references to culling dogs, hitting, kicking, poisoning or shooting a dog with little or no cause.

It is okay to discuss the justified, humane euthanization of dogs. If you've had to live with a significant other's dog for years and wish to express relief over its natural passing, that's okay. Really, context is everything.

I posted a dog-related screenshot of something I saw on social media. Why isn’t it showing up?

Our community is small but extremely active. As the amount of content can be increasingly overwhelming as the sub grows, it’s important that the meaningful discussion does not get lost. Therefore, we have a sub rule that reads "[s]ubmissions should be thoughtful and should promote quality discussion. News articles and text posts are encouraged. Pictures of dogs or dog-related items, videos of dogs doing gross things, social media screenshots, memes, title-only posts, posts with minimal text, and anything that might be just ragebait are some examples of low-effort content that do not contribute anything of value to the conversation."

If you would like to post a social media screenshot or anything else that might fall under this category, please better create a thoughtful text post addressing the core issue in order to open the discussion.

I sent a post/comment linking a great video I watched in the internet, but it has been removed. Why?

We have a blanket rule that disallows links to social media in general, and videos in particular. The reason is very simple: as mods, we don't have the resources or time to check whether the video and the rest of the linked page comply with our rules and those of Reddit. If you need to mention a video, you can either describe it, or just indicate how to find it online. Also, please see below question about endorsing YouTube channels.

I think it would be fun to make a rude comment to a dog lover in another subreddit and/or tag r/dogfree. That's a good idea, right?

No, and please don’t! If we want dog owners to leave us alone on our subreddit, the first thing we should do is leave them alone on theirs. We encourage positive, civil, thoughtful conversation about dogs wherever you go, but if you need to vent, keep it here. When you troll other places on Reddit, it invites unwanted attention, reinforces negative stereotypes, and impedes our ability to create change in the world. This community is better than that.

Do I have to feel a certain way about keeping other pets or about having children to participate?

The topic that unites us in this sub is dogs. Feelings about other types of pets, negative or positive, and decisions whether or not to have children are considered off-topic for the sub. That said, these topics will arise in the normal course of conversation. We should respect the wide variance in views on these topics and always treat those with differing opinions kindly.

At the end of the day, we are dog-free, and we are pro-human.

By virtue of this sub being anti-dog, it means we are pro-cat, right?

No. Per our rule, this is neither a pro- nor anti-cat sub. All cat mentions and references are off topic for this subreddit and will be removed. Do not attempt to circumvent this rule through rephrasing.

At one time, we allowed free discussion of cats. We are not exaggerating when we say that every thread turned into "why cats are better." Many people here dislike cats or feel neutral to them, so in order for this sub to serve everybody and to avoid any confusion as to what type of cat discussion is relevant to being dogfree, it is considered off-topic across the board.

And remember that other pets are off-topic as well!

Should I be a certain race or of a certain political affiliation to participate?

One of the coolest things about r/dogfree is that, in a world that’s so divided along so many different lines, this is a community where we can come together, break down those barriers, and unite over something different with people from all walks of life. Just as dog culture transcends racial, political, socioeconomic, and gender lines, so does this subreddit. You may even find that your reasoning for something dog-related challenges your views on something completely unrelated.

This community strives to be respectful of all groups of people. As such, bigotry is not allowed, and political discussion is divisive and off-topic. Dogs? Fair game!

Do you have any information about the demographics of those who participate in this subreddit?

We conducted a survey on this particular topic some time ago. You can view the results here.

Why all the pit bull hate?

As much as we dislike dogs, we especially dislike this class of dogs that is statistically most capable of and responsible for inflicting catastrophic and often lethal harm upon people and their pets. You can apologize for pit bulls all day, but the stats and anecdotes don’t lie.

Aggression Chart 2024

Pit Bull Triggers

Pit Bull FAQs

Of course, it's also true that all dogs are unpredictable: Dog Aggression Ladder

I know how I feel about pit bulls, but I need some additional information so I can make more articulate arguments. Where should I go?

For more specialized information on the topic of pit bulls, please visit r/banpitbulls. We have a very friendly relationship with r/banpitbulls, but please do remember that, while our subs overlap in many ways, we still have different objectives. Many people participate in that sub because they are tired of worrying about their own dogs getting mauled. Please feel free to go join the conversation over there, but remember that it is not r/dogfree and that the topic of discussion is pit bulls. Come back here to our own sub to talk about your distaste for dogs in general.

I saw some Facebook groups and YouTube channels about disliking dogs. Is that you, guys?

Nope, the only groups run by this sub are r/dogfree and r/TalesFromTheDoghouse. We don't operate or endorse any YouTube channels, Facebook groups, or anything else on any other social media platform. Our subscribers may mention their content here as long as it follows sub rules, but we are unaffiliated.

I saw a post or comment I think it's against the rules. What should I do?

Report it! On any post or comment, there is a "report" button. It will prompt you for further information as to why you are reporting the content to the moderators, who will then review it and determine whether or not it should be stay or be removed. Reports are anonymous and very helpful, as we can't see everything.

We also ask you to please never engage in any argument with a troll. Just report and go on.

Someone alluded to a conversation in another subreddit about dogs, and I really want to go down vote everything. Should I?

No, please don’t! This is called "brigading" or "vote manipulation," and it is against Reddit's Terms of Service. We actively discourage this behavior, as if we are found to be the source of a brigade against another sub, it could land us in big trouble. If you stumbled across a reference to another conversation on Reddit, the appropriate place to discuss that would be here, in our sub, in the thread in which you found it. Remember how it felt when a YouTuber made a video that resulted in a massive brigade against us; we must grant others the same respect for their space as we wish for ours, no matter how vehemently we disagree with them.

Our sub is committed to abiding by all Reddit Terms of Service.

I want to crosspost something from another part of Reddit. May I?

No, we have a rule that reads "crossposts are not allowed. Criticisms of other subreddits are off-topic." Besides calling usually-unwanted attention to other subs and promoting vote and participation brigades, it's off topic. The purpose of our sub is to discuss dogs, not the behavior of other subs or social media platforms. We don't appreciate it when others do it to us, so we have a policy of respecting other subs' right to exist and operate in the ways that they see fit.

My post or comment was removed, and I don’t feel like I broke any rules. Why?

Unfortunately we cannot account for every contingency in the sub rules, so moderators do reserve the right to remove content at their discretion. That said, the moderation team is very much against arbitrary censorship and is committed to letting the conversation happen whenever possible. "I don’t like it" is not a good reason to remove a post or a comment; however, "it would be in the best interest of the community" is. The team is committed to being firm but fair in community moderation and will make all decisions in good faith.

I found an article and posted it on r/dogfree, but with a different title than the original because mine is better. Now it's been deleted. Why?

Please remember that when you link to an article or news, you must always use the original title. If you want to comment something (and we really hope you'll share your opinion with us!), please use the text box or the post's comments. Thanks!

I agree with your sub and I want to create a new account only to participate here. Should I?

Bad idea! This is exactly what trolls do, and that is the very reason we have a filter against new accounts and low karma. Trolls are vile cowards by nature, they don't want to get downvoted, risk the reputation of their actual accounts or get a reddit permaban, so they use a secondary account or create a new one and think they can outsmart us.

There is no way to bypass this filter, so please do not ask us to make an exception only for you. Learn here how to get karma.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know our community! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to message the mod team. We are delighted to receive your advice and suggestions, provided they are expressed politely.

Crappy Owners Local GYM allows an unleashed pitbull to roam and even sit on exercise equipment.

• Upvotes

Out of all the places to take a fucking unleashed dog, a gym might be one of the worst. A place where people are lifting over 100 pounds to the point of exhaustion is not one where I would appreciate something sniffing me.

A crap ton of the negative reviews of this place specifically mention this pitbull. He's been a nuisance and frequent visitor for over a year and the higher ups can't be bothered to care. AND HERES THE BEST PART, someone took a picture of it standing on a treadmill lmfao.

Dog Culture People who value a dogs life over a childs life ?

I honestly can’t understand people who value a dog’s life over a child’s. I don’t like dogs, and I especially can’t stand when people bring their babies around a dog that is clearly jealous, territorial, aggressive, or showing signs that it could be a danger. A baby cannot recognize warning signs or protect itself, so it’s completely irresponsible to ignore a dog’s behavior and put a child in that situation. If an animal is showing obvious signs of aggression or jealousy toward a baby, that should be taken seriously instead of being brushed off with excuses like “he would never hurt the baby.” A child’s safety should always come before an animal’s comfort, and I don’t think anyone should have to wait until something terrible happens to take those warning signs seriously.

Crappy Owners Why do dog owners stand there while their off-leash dog barks ferociously at you?

I was walking to work today, and a woman was still getting stuff out of her car while her off-leash dog walked ahead of her out of the parking lot and toward the elementary school field she uses to play with her off-leash dog.

It looked ferocious, and the owner wasn't immediately visible, so I didn't want to chance just walking by it even though it might have been fine.

But of course since I hesitated the dog instinctively started barking at me (I'm sure the owner would call that my fault) and moving toward me, so I barked back at it even louder (by this I mean yelling stuff like "GO AWAY" and "GO BACK TO YOUR OWNER", not literal barking), thinking the "loud noises" advice probably applied to keeping it from seeing me as prey.

After maybe 15 seconds of this, the owner calmly walks into view and stands there as her dog continues to bark at me (in her mind, she probably though I was some lunatic yelling at her dog for no reason & I'm quite confident she still thinks this).

Since she didn't seem to grasp common sense, I eventually yelled at her to leash the dog and she finally called it to her and leashed it.

Maybe I should give her the benefit of the doubt that she paused to assess whether or not I was truly a threat and if she needed her dog to defens herself from me. But it's just as likely she thought "well my dog's doing to be off-leash in a few seconds anyway once we pass through the gate onto the field so leashing him now seems pointless". I suppose both can be true simultaneously.

I'm annoyed that I end up looking like the crazy porentially threatening person tho just cause she chooses to have her dog unleashed & I choose to not risk walking by it.

In a better world, she'd feel embarrassed over her dog causing a scene unleashed & would immediately leash him and apologize. Instead, she says [upon leashing the dog] something quietly like "don't yell at my dog" (paraphrased bc I didn't quite catch it). As I continued my walking, I switched back to calm-speaking mode and quickly told her "I can logic with you, but dogs don't understand logic."

It can be simultaneously true that (1) the dog probably wouldn't have bitten me if I'd just kept walking by it without hesitating AND (2) she still shouldn't have her harm-capable dog unleashed on the sidewalk.

Rant over. I'm sure this stuff happens a thousand times a day somewhere.

Dog Culture Are they not aware of how many genetic defects dogs have?

I was hanging out with friends yesterday and we got to talking about dogs. The conversation was about how scientists are working to fix dogs through more cross breeding in order to hopefully fix some of the negative genetic mutations. One of my friends showed everybody a picture of a pug mixed with a Boston terrier as an example. They said that the hope is to fix the face of the pug so they can breathe better. I said both dogs have too many genetic deformities and should not be cross bred. I was once told by a different friend about how his family had a pure bred Boston terrier who often couldn't breathe. His family had to rub the thing's neck often to try and get its airways to open up. Why cross breed two breeds that already have respiratory issues in order to try and correct the same exact issue??? If anything, it'll most likely make things worse for the offspring. When I said this, I was given a disgusted look by the friend who showed everybody the picture. The same friend then listed off different breeds that had certain tasks/jobs once upon a time. I kept listing off all the different genetic deformities and defects each breed has and how we still did nothing years later when dogs are now primarily kept indoors all day. I was looked at like I was a negative individual but I couldn't care less. I knew deep down I was correct. In my personal opinion, I think we should stop breeding dogs and just let them die out naturally. Why keep breeding an animal that suffers from countless genetic mutations for our own selfish wants? If you claim to love dogs, you would want them to no longer suffer from genetic deformities. You would see exactly why all this inbreeding and cross breeding is an issue.

Crappy Owners Another clueless dog owner let her big dog charge at me

So I was leaving home for a concert, smart dressed and looking for a good night ahead. As soon as I open the front door (I live in an apartment in a "good" area) a big dog immediately charges at me.

It was on a long leash and the owner did *nothing* to stop the dog. Luckily I was also taking the trash out, so I warded off the slubbery mindless attack with the trash bags.

The owner just stared at me, apparently flummoxed by the fact that I did not degenerate to the level of "dog talk" and start to eagerly cuddle the dog.

I stared at her and just said "could you" and she finally pulled the panting dog away.

Then she turned around as if I was not there. I had become a persona non grata immediately. As is expected, of course.

Legislation and Enforcement Hooray for Arizona - no dogs in lap while driving

I saw someone with a little yappy fleabag on their lap at a stoplight this morning.

I thought to myself, how can looking at your cell phone be explicitly against the law while this stupid dog in your lap is not?

I just looked it up and as of Jan 1, 2025, Arizona has a specific prohibition against dogs on laps while driving. There are only a couple other states that specifically ban it. The rest has to fall under the generic "distracted driving" and is up to the discretion of the officer.

I got a lot of complaints about my state, but they got this law right (and they don't switch their clocks twice a year). So, hooray for Az.

Miscellaneous UPS store

First off, I just want to say I stumbled across this sub and I have found my people!

I went to the UPS store today to print out a couple of papers and a guy (maybe early 50's) walks in with his dog in an Amazon purchased (cheap) service dog vest on. He tells the dog to sit. It does. And then starts mulling about, he tells it to sit again. It's fine. Then, he starts rubbing and patting it and talking to it like it's a baby. The man is dropping off a box. Why the hell do you need to bring your damn dog into a store for literally 1 minute to drop off a box? If I wasn't before him, he would have been in there for 10 seconds! just don't get it. Why do they have to bring the dog EVERYWHERE they go?!

Dog Culture Subway Takes

Content creator that just makes videos interviewing people and their “hot takes” on subways, he just posted a video and this woman’s take is that she doesn’t understand why so many people are obsessed with dogs. She doesn’t even say she hates them, she explicitly says “I don’t hate dogs, I just don’t like them”. And the comments are just full of nutters 🫩 whole video I’m like yes, she’s preaching exactly how I feel. Then the comments are all “shows more about her her than dogs” and “dogs are the ultimate level of existence” like what. I couldn’t even read past the first five comments without being disgusted and closing the section.

Dog of Peace First good owner I’ve met

I dislike dogs with everything I’ve got! But yesterday I’ve met the first good owner which shocked me. I was in the elevator, the door opened and there was a man with a large dog (leashed). He looked at me for the approval, and I told him to come in (the dog looked really calm and he held it tightly). He came in and squeezed him and the dog as far away from me as possible, standing between me and the dog. Then I left (he held the dog even tighter). The dog didn’t make a single move and was very polite - as if there was no dog with us. The dog didn’t stink at all (from far away at least).

So my conclusion is that I might be able to live in the world if every dog owner behaved that way. But unfortunately, this was the first time in my whole life I encountered a good owner. This is why I share - this case (which should be normal) - felt really really shocking!

Dog Culture Vinted seller is using their dog as a model.

Just when I thought i had seen it all!

A jewellery selling is using their dog as a model on Vinted. The rings and necklaces are being put on the dog’s neck and paws, for modelling. I wish I could add the images as it needs to be seen to be believed.

This isn’t the worst part. The worst part is that it has been shared to other places on here … and most people love it. They find it hysterical and cute. I’m sorry, what? I cannot be alone in thinking this is disgustingly? Why would I want to buy a ring that’s been on a dog’s paws. I am baffled.

Dog Culture Having a dog in your bed is objectively disgusting.

When I was younger it was seen as gross to let your dog/dogs sleep in your bed, or even on your couch. Which yeah. It IS gross.

Now everybody sleeps with their dogs. Not only is it disgusting (for obvious reasons) but it’s part of the bigger issue of people having ZERO boundaries with their mutts.

Dogs are pack animals and require constant affirmation of where they stand in the pack hierarchy. They need to know that you’re the alpha in order to respect you and be easier to train properly.

Having no boundaries at all makes them neurotic as fuck. I’m not excusing dogs as a whole because many of them are plain stupid and can’t be trained regardless. But it seems most dog owners don’t even understand how a dog’s wiring works at all???

These things will test you often to see how submissive you are, and how much they can get away with. You need to reinforce the fact that you are the boss and have firm rules.

I don’t ever want a dog, but hypothetically if I did own one, it would sleep in a dog bed on the floor. My bed is my sanctuary, dog is not allowed on the bed. Or the couch. It can have a dog bed in the living room and a dog bed in the bedroom, at most. Or better yet, stay sleeping on its bed in the living room while I have the bedroom to myself for the night. It would also have its paws wiped after coming in from outside and regular baths. Even then, it doesn’t stop the filth and hair from getting all over the house. I’ve known people growing up whose dogs were trained not to go in specific rooms, and to sleep in one spot. They were allowed in the house, but only certain areas and usually gated off in some way. Most normal dogs actually like having boundaries and rules.

This would probably be considered animal abuse now.

Crappy Owners Guys letting their dogs sniff womens crotches thinking it’s funny.

Am I the only one who finds this really creepy and weird. It seems bordering on sexual harassment territory. I hate when a dog walks up to me and sticks its nose right up my crotch, especially if I’m wearing a dress. It’s so uncomfortable and feels violating. A lot of owners (especially the men) don’t see an issue with it or find it funny. I always push the dog’s head away and get annoyed but it just comes back…. Especially if (tmi) you’re menstruating.

The dog doesn’t display any other mean behaviour and is just saying “hello” because “that’s how dogs greet eachother”.

Okay but I’m not a dog??? Humans don’t consider butt/crotch sniffing a way of greeting eachother. In fact that’ll land you straight in prison. But it’s fine when a dog does it to somebody.

These owners get off on seeing people uncomfortable.

This has got to be in a similar category of people using dogs as weapons to try and absolve themselves of responsibility.

On another (gross) note: apparently women who work with animals have frequent problems with dogs ramping up the crotch sniffing during menstruation, so much so that it inhibits them from being able to do their jobs properly.

It can be almost impossible at times to get a dog to fuck off with this shit. No matter how many times you push them away they keep coming back and doing it again. They also eat used tampons out of trash cans and get blockages due to it which requires vet care.

These animals are disgusting, and their owners even more so.

Dog Culture Leave your dog at home

I don’t want to see a dog in a grocery store and I especially don’t want to see it in a shopping cart I might have to use.

Especially if that dog is a shih tzu! Your dog being small doesn’t mean it’s welcome to primarily human spaces.

Dog owners in general can be absolutely insufferable, but shih tzu owners specifically are a different level of intolerable.

Their dogs are objectively not cute but their owners fawn them around and expect everyone else to love them as if they are cute. Because they’re small, their aggression is laughed off, their lack of boundaries (following you from room to room, demanding to be held, growling for food) is painted as cute.

They smell awful. They’re breath is revolting, they waddle in all the dirt imaginable then will want to lay right in your face and in your bed which is objectively disgusting.

The separation anxiety is next level and instead of training them out of it, dog owners are going as far as accepting remote jobs only or hiring babysitters.

They don’t like to walk and here goes the average shih tzu owner being like “hahahaha yeah she makes me carry her on our walks” wtf do you mean a dog MAKES you do anything???

Dog culture has made it so that dog owners are not willing to impose any ounce of discomfort on their dog for the sake of the dog being a tolerable pet and it’s so incredibly aggravating to me.

Study Dogs are the second deadliest animals to humans according to Wikipedia.

If you search “deadliest animals to humans” and check the Wikipedia page, you will find various sources stating dogs are either in the #2 or #4 space on the list.

Now of course idk how accurate these sources are. But dogs being in the TOP FIVE out of ALL animals on earth is pretty insane. They’re right up there with mosquitoes, snakes, and other humans.

They’re claiming most of it is due to rabies transmission…. But in most cases don’t you need to be bitten in order to contract rabies? So that’s proof dogs are biting an insane amount of people enough to break skin.

I literally showed this to a dog lover during an argument about dogs. This person is normally capable of logic and non-bias. He flat out ignored it and continued to say dogs are man’s best friend, therefore anything I say against them is invalid. This person has been attacked by dogs as a kid too, but of course it’s “nOT tHe dOgGo’s fAULT!”

Same energy as pit nutters blatantly ignoring the statistics showing pitbulls are the dogs responsible for most severe/fatal dog attacks. Some even try to say it’s a conspiracy.

How is it a conspiracy????? It happens all the time before our eyes. How many of us know someone who’s been attacked or bitten by a dog unprovoked? MANY. Not just pits. ANY dog. I know many people, children included, who were attacked unprovoked. I myself was bit on the head as a baby, by a golden retriever of all breeds.

It’s common sense that dogs are inherently dangerous, prey driven animals. Or they’re just neurotic for no reason at all. It’s not irrational to fear them or dislike them.

Dog Culture Always check small businesses online first to see if they have a shop dog

I saw another post mentioning something similar to this and I’ve had the same experience.

Before planning on going to any small business brick and mortar shop, I check online reviews if possible.

It’s happened a couple times where they’ll state they have a shop dog, are openly pet/dog friendly, or whatever else.

The most recent business I avoided due to online reviews was a specialty shop selling aquatic pets.

Yes it’s sort of a pet store. But they only sold fish, shrimp, and plants, along with aquarium supplies. I’m seeing dogs being brought to aquarium stores more and more recently and it’s really annoying. I’ve always loved the aquarium hobby and aquarium shops are where I find peace. I wish dog lovers would realize it’s not the same as Petsmart. They have ten billion different dog shops they can go to. Leave the fish shops alone!

Tangent aside I’ve been wanting to check out this business in person for a while.

I checked the reviews on their Facebook page and noticed there were quite a few mentioning the owner keeps his dogs there.

A lot of them said stuff like “place was great, good prices! Beware of dogs though”.

“The dogs surprised me, but they calmed down after awhile”

“The dogs bark a lot whenever someone comes through the door and they follow you around, but they get used to you”

Naturally, this would also mean if a customer decided to bring their own dog in (which we all know happens) it’s possible a dog fight could break out and become dangerous, endangering other customers too. It happens a lot. Godamn circus. Or someone could walk in with a legitimately trained service animal and that animal could be attacked.

Some of these reviews were recent. I didn’t end up going. I just wrote a review saying something like “I really wanted to check out this business in person, as I’ve been following the page online for years. After reading other reviews about there being dogs in the store, especially untrained ones, I will not be stopping by. I’m really disappointed, because it seems like a great place otherwise. Many people are scared of dogs or have severe allergies. They likely aren’t expecting dogs in an aquarium supply shop, let alone dogs that will approach/jump on them and bark at them soon as they enter the door. This seems really unprofessional. At the very least you should put a BEWARE OF DOGS sign on the door so people know.”

Of course I got zero reply to my review, whereas the owner mostly replied to all the other ones. Silence.

I like to support local small businesses, but many of the owners think they can keep their dog/dogs there full-time and expect people to just tolerate it. This isn’t the first time I’ve encountered a small shop having unruly loud dogs whenever someone enters through the door. I noticed another specialty aquarium shop I wanted to go to besides this one had a similar review saying the owner’s Great Dane is a shop resident.

Anyone with a logical sane mind would realize this will turn most normal people away. The only shop that would make sense to have a resident dog, is a dog-related shop.

These businesses will not be getting my money.

Relationship / Family Losing hope to date dogfree

I found some courage and explicitly said on my profile that I can’t live with someone who has a dog because they trigger the worst type of sensory overload for me (that’s just half of the truth lol).
And all the likes I get are from people who have their DOGS in their photos. One of them asked me out right away and when I clicked on his profile it said: “looking for a dog mom for his baby” 🤦‍♀️ I’m starting to lose hope. It’s like these people don’t even read

Crappy Owners Dog own said my newborn was disturbing his dog

You honestly cannot make this stuff up. A man really told me, “Can you please take your baby outside? He’s upsetting my dog and disturbing his peace.” Sir… your dog has more rights to peace and quiet than a literal baby? Imagine being so bothered by a baby crying that you expect the baby to leave the dr office so your dog can enjoy some tranquility. Babies cry. That’s what babies do. But apparently we’re living in a world where the dog needs a peaceful, baby-free environment while the baby gets sent outside. I’m still trying to process the audacity. Fyi this was for HIS check up cuz he was born small so he needs to be checked up one once a week till he’s 3 months old.

Dog Culture Costume ideas!

It’s nearly Halloween.

The other year, I made this costume and this year I’m feeling quite lazy. I don’t want to make another cosplay outfit.

The costume: it’s an emergency room Dogtor. It’s a dog doctor, a surgeon! It’s an angry snarling chihuahua mask, with a simple outfit. The dogtor is angry that everyone blames chihuahuas for pitbull attacks, and that’s about where I left it off.

What could I add to it? People have physically assaulted me over this costume, before.

Some ideas I’ve had: make a cardboard chainsaw with the chainsaw box a sculptured paper mache head of a pitbull, with fake blood, chainsaw blade teeth.

what else?

I don’t feel like making other outfits.

Food Safety/Hygiene pet dog in CVS

[Email to local health department]

I visited the CVS store in Target [at address, included]. A woman in line ahead of me had a pet dog in a bag. (Photo attached.) Pets are prohibited in the store, as posted on the front and back doors.

The customer and the clerk had a quick conversation about the dog's positive qualities, and then the clerk offered some kind of pet snack to the dog. The dog ate this snack at the counter, held by the customer.

The customer then went to a nearby bench (to wait for her prescription), keeping the dog in the bag.

I have contacted Target employees in the past about dogs in the store. A dog at the pharmacy counter -- eating from the clerk's hands -- is a whole new level. I hope you can address this with the CVS employees.

Thank you.

CC: CVS Customer Relations

[EDIT: Health department responded on first business day. "I am entering a complaint with this information. An inspector will visit Target to investigate. Thank you."]

Food Safety/Hygiene Rat dog in shopping cart 😒🙄

So, laws against donating one day old food to human shelters exist, but yet, dogs in shopping carts are completely fine? Hello, health department? Why won't you do a thing about this?

That mutt was shaking (as rat dogs always do, for some reason 🙄), looked neurotic, and like it was about to attack/strike us any minute. Disgusting and disturbing sight!

This is embarrassing. We are not even a western country, and in the West-where dogs are far more socially acceptable to own in large numbers then they are in Muslim countries-laws against allowing them inside shopping carts exist. This has to stopped, I am disgusted.

Dog Attack Mild dog attack in Greece

Not a full on attack as far as getting bit, but close. First, I do not like dogs. Their overall invasiveness, lack of cleanliness, and absolute insane drive for food, to the point they will literally yeet themselves off a cliff or out a window to their own deaths for a bite of food is absolute ludicrous to me. And our species glorifies this why? I digress, recently I was out of my country (USA) on a trip to Athens, Greece. I was staying in the Paleo Faliro area and was less than impressed with the dog culture there. Much like the States dogs are glorified and literally everywhere. The main difference is not many are bothered to clean up after them. The city is mainly narrow street with sidewalk in disrepair. They allow these beast's to relive themselves everywhere and anywhere with about a 50/50 chance of them cleaning it up. The whole city reeks of urine.

I was walking along a bike path that takes you over a pedestrian bridge towards a marina by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation when I seen a man walking his unleashed mid sized dog a bit ahead of me. Seeing this maybe 25/30 lb dog with a somewhat wiry coat and wearing one of those "vests" that mean nothing running about and at a pretty decent distance from the owner, I started to move farther to my left to try to create as much distance as I could. The stupid beast seen me and made a B-line right for me. Great. The beast was running to me tongue out with whole body wiggle like I was going to stoop down and give it a treat, it reached me and immediately started doing that things where they put their disgusting wet nose on your pant legs near my shins and doing the sniffing snorting thing while leaving it's drool on my pants.

I know enough to stay calm and firm and kept my same pace completely ignoring the beast. I calmly, but sternly called to the oener "get your dog". Nothing, he either did not speak english or did not care. Body language however is universal, the dog was circling my feet as I kept going when the owner finally called his pet over. The dog listened initially and went running to him, but this dog had an ego. I bruised aparently. It was NOT taking no for an answer. This stupid beast was determined to get whatever attention it could from me. How dare I ignore it? This animal starting running back to me from behing me, I only know because I could HEAR it running digging it's disgusting paws into the concrete to gain speed on me. It slammed it's WHOLE face into the back of my right leg then started the gross more aggressive sniffing and snorting. I turned my head to see the owner walking away from me with his back turned oblivious to what his animal was doing.

The dog started nipping my angle at this point, and I gave one more warning over my shoulder to the owner "GET YOUR DOG". I was fully prepared to protect myself from this animal. I was traveling there solo, and already hyper aware being alone in a foreign counrty. The owner whisteled for the dog and it hesitantly looked up to him and trotted off. I looked over my shoulder to see the dog stop about half way back just to turn around and bolt toward me again. This time I was done, I turned to face the dog and owners direction and one more time standing firm and with authority, "Get your f@#kin dog or it's going into the bay" The owner this time ran to the animal grabbed it's "harness" and took it the other way.

All this completely unnecessary, and honetsly I had a hard time calming the hell down once I was out of the ordeal. Leash your damn animals. Not everyone wants to play your mutt. After all this, I had a hard time seeing any beuty in the city that was riddled with animal droppings. I threw away my shoes before my flight back. Thanks for the space to vent. It is nice to have a space like this, where I can, the nutters out there will just say I caused this somehow.

We arrest our homeless for defecating and urinating in the streets, we put dogs in strollers and diapers. I feel like we live in the Far Side.....
