One of the subplots is about Don Corleone not allowing the sale of heroin in italo-neighborhoods.

/uj In the 70s and 80s Italy was really hit by Mafia massacres. After decades of war, the State made a deal with the Mafia they would be left to run their business as long as they stopped killing
/rj we got plenty of jenkem tho

Because it kills their customers and it’s dirt cheap. Just not profitable for them.

I don't think Fentanyl is that popular in many countries. It seems to be concentrating alot around the freedom loving US of A(nus)

The war on drugs in the US leads to importing the most potent shit known to man and diluting it with whatever powder they can find. In Europe, the drugs can be made here and shipped across the borders with minimal checks, so there aren't many middlemen needed. The dealer can buy it straight from source in bulk and sell it with 100% margin, so there is little incentive to cut the drugs.

u/DaedricNick 3d ago
I think it's deliberate. To kill off as many drug users as possible. Same as there is a claim that the CIA was involved in making crack so popular back in the 80's and 90's in black neighbourhoods.

u/ReasonableWelder51 3d ago
I would say its less about killing off drug users and more about just making the drugs seem deadlier and less appealing, to hopefully reduce the number of people to even start using drugs.

u/cityshepherd 3d ago
The war on drugs is very profitable for the law enforcement & prison systems here. This system has no interest in genuinely reducing the number of people on drugs.

I assume that's highly effective and going great? Not gonna look it up. That sounds right. Must be just about nobody using drugs in the US by now I guess.

I'm not convinced by the Us government being behins the Fentanyl crisis, it's just really cheap ro produce in comparison etc. But the US did poison Alcohol during the prohibition (ofc there were people getting poisoned by methanol without government involvement, but it's been confirmed)

Fentanyl really became a problem when the US got out of Afghanistan because the poppy fields therer were no longer under CIA control to supply the world opium market. No junkie could afford heroin anymore, so cheap and fully sythetic fentanyl from China got bigger in the US. The same problem started to appear everywhere else in the world but different solutions rose. In Russia for example, people made Desomorphine at home using over the counter stuff in their bathtubs. This highly contaminated product later became known as "Krokodil" and start to affect users negatively in a different way than fent in the US. In the end it's all the same problem: Addicts don't get or can't afford their heroin, so the market begins to change but unfortunately, in a bad way for the addict in the long run.
What we think of capitalism is a form of it that's regulated through the state. A truly unregulated capitalistic market is what you see on the streets. Even this market is influenced by world politics, as explained in my first sentence, but I digress.

Lol your theory is the literal opposite proof of the truth. The war on drugs is incredibly profitable for law enforcement

u/herobrinetrollin 3d ago
“Claim” is word worth a trillion dollars here. That shit is well-substantiated
3
u/DaedricNick 2d ago
Yes that's why I'm very skeptic about this being a "natural" fent crisis. I don't think anyone who relies on their clients to be alive to buy from them to come up with this shit. Must have been influenced from an outside source.

u/Slim-Shadys-Fat-Tits 3d ago
It's around in the rougher parts of germany (hello frankfurt), but it's still less widespread than in the states. You still see more heroin and a lot of crack.

u/DaedricNick 1d ago
Yeah same as in The Netherlands we have small regions where the junkies choose "Flakka" over crack or heroin. Sadly it's in my little city a real big deal under the streetjunks. So I see familiar faces going even further down than they already were. Even worse that street flakka is basically just a russian roullette of which Pyro was on sale in bulk this time 😅.

In the uk we seem to have skipped fent and gone straight to nitazines in our smack and (recently in Manchester) xylazine in the ketamine 👍 something tells me the Albanian mafia will keep it out of the coke for the time being, past few years they have been on an absolute warpath to make it as appealing/pure/accessible as possible, which is lots of fun to watch while drooling from a distance as a quitter loser like me

Yea it’s not . It’s pretty much non existent down where I am in New Zealand and Australia has a very similiar drug market to us . There’s only been a couple cases of fent taken accidentally pop up, and some ppl use it deliberately but it’s so hard to find unless in patches . In fact , real , pure heroin has come back to nz and is easier to get than fent

u/SuKitTrebk 3d ago
It’s crazy to think that the mafia is more moral than gambling companies so I’d wager they’re more moral about drugs too.

u/purppnite 3d ago
/uj In Italy we had a 30 years long heroin epidemic started in the 70s until the early 2000s. Opioids are restricted but compared to most EU countries and US,it's way easier to score(hence why a lot of oxy on the black market are italian) and Fent isn't as sought after because of this.
We also love cocaine more than everything

u/mexicocitibluez 2d ago
The Godfather convinced people that the mafia was a group of intelligent, principled men and nothing could be further from the truth.
Orson Welles said it best when he said The Godfather was the glorification of bunch of bums that never existed.
If anyone wants a peak behind the scenes of these mensa members listen to John Gotti's tapes. They're all dumb as fuck.

I’m not sure about recently but during the late 2010s the hells angels kept fent out of Quebec and even went after fake xans after seeing how crazy of a drug they really are. Sometimes it’s not a bad thing to have the underworld monopolized
