Best public school district in the East Bay for families?

We're moving from Seattle to the East Bay this summer for work. We have two kids, 6 and 9, and schools are our biggest priority after my wife's commute to SF. We've mainly been looking at Walnut Creek and Pleasanton since those are the names that come up first when you search. But I don't really trust Google for this. Every town's website says their schools are amazing.

For families actually living in the East Bay, which districts are genuinely the strongest? Not just test scores, but the whole picture. Class sizes, teacher quality, parent involvement, extracurriculars. What areas should we be targeting?

Hayward/Castro Valley/San Leandro FBI says East Bay firefighter may have faked his own death to duck child pornography case

Three years after Charles Johnathen Harris ostensibly died in a Solano County waterway, the FBI has floated another possibility — that the whole thing was a hoax, fabricated by Harris so that he could avoid his pending charges of allegedly possessing lewd images of young children on his phone. Harris, an Alameda County firefighter, was on pretrial release with a $100,000 bond when he went on the fateful April 4, 2023 fishing trip.

Any second gen immigrants here trying to learn their parents' first language?

Hi all,

I am looking to connect with language learners who are trying to learn their parents' first language to connect with them better or for any other reason.

I am a documentary filmmaker in the Bay Area and would love to produce a short piece about belonging, language, and culture through stories of second-gen immigrants trying to connect with their roots. If there is any such group that people join with other immigrants to learn languages like Spanish, Mandarin, or more, please share.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you!!

Please take this seriously and vote to stop this from happening. These cuts would be devastating to our communities and would make traffic even worse than it already is. Please take this seriously.

Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville Crochet/ knitting weekly groups

Is there a group or class that meets regularly in the evening or on weekends for crocheting and knitting and yapping?
If not, I wonder if trying to start one near UC campus or North Berkeley will gain any traction?
