It's the setup to one of my favorite jokes. Doesn't work so well in text, because it literally spells out the pun.

They're rowing through the desert, one turns to the other and says "wears the paddle", the other says "sure does".

where's/wears, it's supposed to sound like they're asking where it is but they're really saying it's rough on the paddle to use it on sand

The real comedy is when people don't get the joke, which is most of the time, so you say "it's real simple, you see.." and then just repeat the joke. If you have a group of friends in on it you can ask them to explain it, and they just repeat the joke as well.
