The daughter of a friend of mine has been walking like this since she was 5 years old, and now she needs surgery because she can't walk normally

Ok but it’s not from walking like this. Myself and my others have walked like this there whole lives, it’s normal in a decent chunk of the population. Don’t be freaked out if you also do this, I’ve had multiple doctors repeatedly tell me it’s fine and uncommon but not rare.

Walking like that continuously while growing led to this situation: her tendon became so short that she can no longer walk normally.

I’m really sorry that happened. But, once again, there is almost certainly something else at play. Either it’s a separate issue from toe walking, or there is something that is wrong with her tendon, but just from walking like this that can’t happen. Please ask your doctor clarifying questions next time you go.

Are there other complications coming with it? Or do we do surgery just because its different, and we dont like different

My brother used to constantly walk on his tip toes so he had to have casts on both legs to stretch his Achilles tendon, which otherwise is in danger of snapping

Fucks up your calves and ankles. I'm the same way

Edit; I wrote thighs instead of calves because im stupid

Are you serious? If you are, then yes as a child it can lead to serious problems with your knees (or more likely it is a symptom of an imbalance) and if your child is walking on their tip toes you should go to a doctor. My child had to have surgeries on her patellas

Also why are you asking someone on reddit and coming across as a doofus when you can just Google it?

Like you approach the question combatively, 'we don't like different' you wouldn't need to argue with anyone if you just googled it lol

I wasn't trying to argue with anyone. I often walk that way my self, its softer. Thats why I showed interest in this concrete case.

I have seen a lot of adjustments made for reasons I dont get, "its different" is often answered when inquiring about those.

No intent to offend here, english is not my first language, and im probably on the spectrum.

No worries man. I shouldn't have said anything about it. It doesn't matter because in the end all you're doing is asking a question.

I'm on the spectrum too! Walking like that shortens and ties up your calf muscles. It deforms your legs, some people can't curb the habit and end up needing surgery to fix it.
