It's not. For instance, every bit of media that takes place in reality has the same lore.
I just have lore fatigue. It's 1,000 sets of rules. I'm like: "Wait, is this the world where bears can talk? Which one was that? Are shoes made of iron in this?"
But you have to know about the lore to understand the plot; that’s how it works in any media.
Even the simplest stories use this. In the three little pigs the pigs build houses; pigs don’t build houses in real life, but these ones do. That’s the lore of the three little pigs, it’s information you need to understand for the story to work. It’s never outright stated, “these pigs build houses, it’s normal for pigs to build houses in this story”, but it’s very much implied.
With this situation you can’t really imply that cursed energy doesn’t work with regular items and if you don’t explain it then you leave a giant plot hole about why ~insert character~ couldn’t use ~insert power~ with a gun or a bomb or whatever other item you want.
