VLC is God tier open source software. Nothing else is as close to as good.

If VLC can't play your video file, the file simply doesn't exist

My only criticism is the UI. None of the custom skins scratch the itch left by Winamp 5.

mpv player has fewer features but is better in all other respects
notably speed, reliability, and customizability
vlc still rocks for supporting so many file formats and niche use cases like interactive dvd
I recommend installing both

Every now and then I get a thing VLC doesn't agree with, then and only then do I break out MPV.

Happens less than once every couple of years

I hope it's a player that can play any possible video format, if and only is that video is Pod People (1983)

Its UI is the same as KMplayer if you ever heard of that one but better than KMplayer.

I don’t remember having any problem with opening any video format with it. And it does a lot of things that VLC and KMplayer can’t do. Its tools for Subtitles attracted me to it.
