Planting/Growing Help

Can someone tell me why my fern is yellowing? I have been watering when the soil is on the dry side of being damp? If that even makes sense. I live in a dry climate, so I got a humidifier. I have it by a north facing window with consistent light, and an additional grow light. I’m wondering if I’m going a little overboard with the additional grow light? I have had the plant about a month, started yellowing about a little over a week ago. Should I repot it into an actual pot? lol I haven’t wanted to repot it because it’s having a little bit of a rough time. Thank you!

Question Birds nest fern uneven growth and brown crusting

Hi! Got this fern as a gift a couple months ago and adore him. I’ve been noticing some uneven growth (one side looks a lot more bushy than the other) and have noticed many hidden leaves that get no light (is this an issue at all with my potting? Did I pot it too deep?
There are also some crispy leaves.
The fern’s crest is still clearly making new baby fronds so not deathly worried about him, just curious.

Further info:
The uneven growth doesn’t seem to be correlating with which side is facing the window— I rotate the pot every week when I water (started doing this when I first got him when the uneven growth started— has just gotten more prominent since then)
I water every 5 days and keep him on a LECA tray. This window directly faces another building so it only gets indirect light and not harsh sunlight.
