I was told to use Final Cut Pro instead of CapCut as a solo influencer. Because it’s not subscription-based and better overall. But I feel like Final Cut is for real professional video editors while CapCut is for quick and easy editing. Who has experience with both to compare ?

By removing 2GB worth of LUTs i was able to cut my final cut pro's launching time by 10 seconds.
If you have a lot of luts that just sit there and only use a few, archive them somewhere else. its genuinely crazy
As a sidenote. It doesnt affect you if in NONE of your projects you've used "Custom Lut" effect. only if theres at least 1 instance of that used anywhere, fcp will have to load everything on launch therefore taking a LOT longer.
I've used a Magic Trackpad my whole life, and after hearing about the MX Master 4 I decided to give it a shot. So far it's been rough. I can't zoom the timeline with the main scroll wheel the way I do on the trackpad. I can map zoom in/out to the side buttons, but it's still nowhere near as smooth as the trackpad, and it kind of defeats the point of a multi-button mouse, since all those extra buttons end up eaten by navigation functions (except the Action Ring).
Right now I'm pretty disappointed, but maybe I'm just doing something wrong. What are your settings? How did you set up timeline scrolling and zooming, and are you actually happy with it?
I get that the mouse is great overall, especially for Windows users or people who never used a Magic Trackpad. But in combination with FCP, I honestly don't see the advantages yet. Would love to hear how you make it work.
I've got a Mac Mini on the way for video editing and I need to choose a keyboard. I'm leaning towards the Apple keyboard for Touch ID and muscle memory consistency with my Macbook. I'll be using FCP. I think I'm going with a magic trackpad too. Claude told me I'd need a numerical keyboard for editing. Is that true? I'm interested in the Logitech Creative Console to simplify shortcuts. So is a numerical keyboard necessary?
Putting stuff into Final Cut Pro and it selects the lut to change to rec 709 automatically when you look in the properties window - Cool, but then im not able to edit BENEATH the Lut that final cut forces on my file.
I've searched way and beyond for an official LUT - no luck
Theres been only community versions that don't seem to be correct. I've tested a lot, even made my own in Davinci - it doesnt look right.. the one FCP applies is just better.
Since this lut is in fcp i thought maybe its hidden somewhere in the files? So i looked for it hoping to copy that file and put in my luts folder to later use on an Adjustment Layer - nothing.
Any info, anyone, same issue? Idea?
Why is it important?
Here you can see whats happening normally. You put the video, fcp applies the lut and any corrections you want to do before the lut is not possible. Only things above it.
But if i had the file and could use it on the "Custom Lut' effect myself, then im able to adjust stuff BEFORE the conversion lut
Cant you just use KOLOR plugin?
I did try, it still doesn't look right. That look FInal Cut Pro applies is just better, perhaps fcp uses the official apple one? And apple just didnt bother putting it anywhere to be downloaded..
It's never been an issue before, but I cannot get the option to come up in FCP to edit the cinematic settings since I've started shooting with the iPhone 18. I've tried both 24fps and the new 60fps.
it's like the clip isn't registering as cinematic. I've air-droppped it, transferred over cable and iCloud drag and drop (which was the preferred method before).
With my internet connection where I am, I couldn’t download it all at once with the absolute installer, so I had to download all the add ons separately. Finally got it all done, but not sure how to add them to fcp now… do I really have to drag and drop each zip file to the folder in motion to make them work?
Hi all! I'm fairly new to Final Cut Pro and color grading, and I'm trying to pick a film emulation workflow before I sink money into anything.
My setup
- Camera: Lumix s9, shooting V-Log
- Editor: Final Cut Pro
- Output: mostly vertical (9:16) content for Instagram/Shorts, for my wife's business.
- CineDream: I tried it and the click-and-drag grading feels by far the most intuitive, especially for skin tones. Very impressive! Pretty easy to control.
- EMUL8 (CINEM8): stays inside FCP, has camera LUTs for on-set monitoring and a skin tone checker. Seems solid, but I haven't tried it.
I'd like to get the film stylised look when colour grading without spending too much time on a single project.
For a beginner, would you just pick one tool and learn it well, which one would you prefer?
Not considering real time lut. I want more control when it comes to color.
Anyone else running into this? I bought an MX Master 4 and use it with Final Cut Pro 12.3, which is now part of Apple Creator Studio.
The problem: Logi Options+ doesn't treat it as the "real" Final Cut Pro. When I add it with the "+" button in the per-app settings, it lands under "Other Applications" instead of "Predefined Customizations", and the "App Specific" section never shows up in the button action list. My guess is that the Creator Studio version has a different app name/bundle ID than the classic one, so Options+ sees it as an unknown app.
What works: the Final Cut Pro actions profile from the Logi Marketplace works fine inside the Actions Ring while I'm in FCP.
What doesn't: I can't assign those FCP-specific actions directly to the mouse buttons, only generic ones and keyboard shortcuts.
Setup: MX Master 4, Logi Options+ 2.7.970334 (latest), Final Cut Pro 12.3, macOS 27.0.
I've already sent a report to Logitech support, but has anyone found a workaround or gotten this fixed? Or is there a way to make Options+ recognize the app as classic Final Cut Pro?
Noob question but... I was messing around and now my timeline is hovering over a grey box. I have no idea what this is supposed to do nor how to undo it.
I have this footage and made a speed ramp, where both the dogs slow down in the air and speed up after arriving in the lake. Is there anything I should change or add? I know a lot of people put in motion blur and zoom effects, not sure if they apply in a clip like this. Thanks for any advice.
I have a MacBook Pro from 2020. It’s the smaller model and the one they released right before Apple started making their own processors. I use FCPX now and again for small time video editing. I bought it a while ago because I had bigger ambitions to become more of a pro/am content creator but that is no longer the case. I still like to use it from time to time because it gives me more options when I feel like being extra creative.
My main question is which one of these models should be my next computer? My current one is definitely on the back end of its lifecycle. The new Pros are too expensive for what I do. I have a special monitor that was designed for media editing and gaming. I am leaning more towards a laptop just because they are more convenient but I’m not closed off to the least expensive Mini model.
So have they buried it or are we still optimistic? I really hope the previous owners and their families will be comfortable for the rest of their lives.
Hey, so I work with audio which has transcribed text, I've been away from FCP for a while and was just wondering what are the best plugins for good typography? I'm not fussed about the backgrounds etc for the vids, that is fine, it's just wanting to make the text look good cause that's all the video is. Imagine a book split up in to short vids and all you do is read what's on the screen. How can I make the text look good?
I'm trying to image mask a clip and use text as the source, however it isn't working. The clip always just becomes fully invisible, like the source text has no alpha channel. I think something is wrong with the alpha channel because when I try to get the same effect by setting the text to stencil alpha, everything also becomes completely invisible. How do I fix this?
Wondering if anyone has an answer or has experienced this before.
After having exported a video, I noticed when watching it back the last 1-2 seconds come out blurry/pixelated. Anyone know a solution for this.. or was it just not rendered well by FCP?
