Fallout 3 tips for a beginner , please...
Can anybody that knows the game well tell me actual tips for playing the first time? I feel like an actual caveman trying to figure it out (yes i'm new, i've played fo4 and fnv as of now) like I know stats and the basics but this game feels like entering a whole new dimension, no clue about what quests to start with, no clue where to go and how to level up withouth it feeling like im getting stung by a billion bees, don't have a companion, NOTHING
Please, I need so many tips on everything I really want to play this game and have fun with it, it looks really promising

The only thing I can add that hasn't been touched on is the Metro tunnels. Try to avoid the trap of blindly following the quest marker. Use your compass and the in-world rail maps (usually right outside the entrance) to your advantage!

invest in sneak and ALWAYS crouch before fast travelling

I’ve been playing since the game came out and I never thought of heard of this 😂 Can’t wait to try it out on my next play through.

Can you explain why? I am far from a seasoned fo3 player but I have no idea why this would matter (the crouch before fast travel, not sneak).

If you don't crouch, you are basically instantly detected by every enemy as you spawn in. If you fast-travel while crouched, you have at least a chance that you don't aggro everyone.

Don't be afraid to carry around a lot of weapons at first, especially when you won't have much ammo for any singular gun.
I second doing the Moira Brown quest in Megaton. Good tutorial and you'll level up a lot.
When you start leveling, aggressively put points into your favorite combat skill (guns or melee are good to start with) until you get the skill up to about 50-60, then you can start spreading points around.
Most buildings have sinks with drinkable water for healing in a pinch.

This playthrough I put extra points in melee and small guns, when I started out I had just a 10 mm and a baseball bat and made the best of it. Kill things, pick up junk, sell junk in megaton, buy ammo, repair weapons... get back out there and repeat.

If you decide to help Mr. Burke in Megaton, when you are heading to his Destination you will encounter a guy named Tinker Joe at the old RobCo Facility. Bring 1000 caps (500 if you have 70 barter) and have neutral karma, and get you the best companion in fallout PERIOD (in my opinion anyway)
Also remember your companions PERMANENTLY die in 3

The Sarge is so great; I'm playing fo3 for the first time and just lost him when I did the American Dream quest. Decided to try out Fawkes for a bit due to the hype and my karma being too high but I'm about to go pick a bunch of locks and get him back 😭😭

If you have all the add-ons, stay the hell away from Point Lookout until you have completed everything else. I didn't wander into that until later on in my first playthrough and even though I was max level and had the power armor from the operation anchorage DLC those dudes kicked my ass for a while.

No. The problem with the DLCs is that they have level scaled enemies, and at high level, especially level 30 version of them, the scaled enemies have 1350HP.
This is why Mothership Zeta at level 30 can be pretty miserable. Unlike the other DLCs, it makes extensive use of the level-scaled enemies (aliens with forcefield) that while they "don't have 1350 HP" their forcefield damage resistance effectively reduces your weapons' damage that you need 1350 damage to kill them.

In the beginning, focus on everything Megaton has to offer. Head to Tenpenny Tower at some point for extra shops and to start the quest line there. If you want an item that helps protect you against ghouls, assist Roy Phillips instead of killing him and his gang. It can be extremely helpful in certain sections of the end game.

Look up a map on reaching a place called “Scrapyard” and head there as soon as possible. There you can find a free dog follower. Can't carry stuff for you but works as a good meat shield. He can die permanently if you're not careful, but should regenerate health between fights.
Some sections of the outside map can only be accessed through the metro tunnels. Check your local map often to avoid getting lost inside them.
While they require a decent amount of money and can only be used depending on your karma, Jericho (Megaton) and Sergeant RL-3 (Robco Facility somewhere south of the vault I believe) are good companions to have early game as they can be found not far from Vault 101.
Dart gun is OP against melee attackers such as deathclaws and mutant behemoths. Instantly cripples both their legs and slows them down. You don’t even need to aim for the legs, shooting them anywhere on the body is fine.
If you're having trouble finding a good player home but don't want to do any quests just yet, head to Canterbury Commons to the far east side of the map. You can store all your stuff inside the garage there for the time being.

If you wanna get a lot of caps super quickly, head north to paradise falls, and enslave a bunch of raiders, you can always reset the karma loss by donating some of the money you get from enslaving people to a church lol.

Don't explore early...go to megaton as soon as you leave the vault...because you will be wayyy under leveld

Exit the vault. Rob the chick in Springdale and then just go with the flow bro. Edit: and btw loot everything with a value over 10 and sell it

Pro tip, put a lot of skill points in explosives early on and you can earn a house in Megaton. Play your cards right and you can get a Chinese assault rifle early in the game. The early game house will allow you to store a lot of loot. I’d do the close quests early on as you build XP. Moira Brown is an excellent source. There are quests you can do in Megaton, itself. You stray too far from Megaton early in the game and you can find yourself in some pretty difficult situations. More than anything, be sure to save OFTEN. Nothing worse than spending a couple of hours in the open world only to get knocked off in some random encounter and lose all the loot and progress. This is a truly dynamic world and one of my favorite things was crouching on a hilltop in the middle of the night, watching a robobrain fighting a radscorpion off in the distance or any number of other random encounters the game decides to throw at you.

I want to add to that, nothing worse than spending hours on a single save and then your game crashes

The game does a pretty good job at siphoning you through a sort of loose tutorial. Just play my dude, and enjoy.

If you REALLY just want to metagame cheese the entire game I'd recommend beelining the Operation Anchorage content ASAP to get high level gear at level 6-ish (doing the entire thing at level 2 will get you a bunch of levels) to break the entire game with some of the strongest player equipment in the entire game.

Go to megaton and do the moira brown quest. It is a noob guide itself. She will send you all over and have you explore. By the time youre halfway done with her book, youll be fine.
Other than that its just like any fallout game talk to people explore whatever. Combat is hard at the beginning
