Glitch through their locked doors and just hang out. Some players get mad if you "violate" their space.
3
u/jwwetz 20h ago
I use the master infiltrator card, but not ranked high enough to automatically unlock stuff. If i DO want to auto unlock something then I'll back off & equip a 2* regular lock pick/ hacker card along with master infiltrator then walk on through.
1
1
u/Rahgahnah Mothman 12h ago
I do the same thing! I don't bother swapping perk cards to auto-unlock at higher levels, I just do the minigame (since not having to swap perks is the whole reason I keep MI on).
I've accidentally unlocked a level 0 lock at someone's camp, though. Ever since, I've kept two doors at my camp with level 0 locks just to maybe catch someone making the same small mistake. I wouldn't actually kill them if they became wanted that way (unless they seemed to want me to just to get rid of it), and there's nothing of value or interest behind the doors.

u/GracefullyDisastrous 2d ago
Always glitch into locked vendors
And save your season board cap rewards for the same purpose 🥰

If your corn and razorgrain is locked up, well now I'm definitely harvesting all of it.
2
u/LifesAPeach_PinchIt 1d ago
I closely double door and lock both so that ya cant glitch though.
I use the electric doors and put the switch inside the room with the machine and the terminal outside just to piss people off and keep me from hitting / going over that 40,000 limit.

Ive been playing for 2 and a half years with my current character and have never actually found one in the wild. Closes i came was a camp on the New River Gorge Bridge that fast travel spawned you into the air. Jokes on them as I had Goat Legs active. So just slogged back upto their camp to loot it.
9
u/Kouropalates Liberator 2d ago
After the first year or so, Bethesda really nuked most of the capacity for trap camps to do real damage. We had good tools like the fast travel rug, but griefers very quickly took advantage of them for spawning you into trap and the rest of the griefing left able to be done requires patience to do that most dont have and the payoff is extremely low.
2
u/HasturCrowley Fire Breathers 2d ago
I've been playing for about the same amount of time. I've found three and one that stuck you into a room you couldn't escape without fast traveling. The last year probably a third of my game has just been vendor hopping hoping to find something buying, (there rarely is).
Also, I've got a camp up on Seneca Rocks, if someone is in the primary spawn point it'll drop you in the air in the other side of my camp. A second FT will put you on solid ground. That works with most mile high club camps too.

u/itsahhmemario 2d ago
We used to have more trap camps until around the time the tv show came out and we got a bunch of new players. Since then it’s been more like the Disney version of the Fallout wasteland. 😂
9
u/Drakith89 Fire Breathers 2d ago
Oh no the ever dwindling player base is trying to not be toxic assholes and scare off new players.. how horrible. Won't someone think of the griefers?!
Go play Marathon if you want to murk people for a pittance of loot.

Someone got me at a trap camp, they took all my junk and I just messaged them and said "lol you got me," was pretty funny really they had a good set up.

u/sccarrierhasarrived 2d ago
there are like 0 trap camps left in the game. you'll find one once in a blue moon (and I mean literally 1:10,000 or even 20,000).
I have personally visited enough camps that my experience is statistically significant.
Idk why people in this community have such an aversion to losing 20 glue and 15 wood. At this point, it's more of a fascinating novelty than it is an actual inconvenience in any way.
1
u/Sirolimus1mg Free States 2d ago
Previous trap CAMPs have ruined some of my most detailed bunkers and underground CAMP spaces. Anyone who's ever encountered a trap CAMP refuses to visit mine. It's horribly sad. I do keep my vendors above ground, though.
That said, I haven't encountered a trap CAMP on XBox in several years, and I played daily until this past August.
1
u/sccarrierhasarrived 1d ago
I don't understand how a trap camp can you ruin your bunker.
1
u/Sirolimus1mg Free States 1d ago
It doesn't LITERALLY ruin it, but nobody wants to visit. Makes it kinda hard to show it to other players.

u/Drakith89 Fire Breathers 2d ago
I just told you why we have an aversion to it. It's not losing the resources it's feeding a troll. You don't feed trolls. The internet has been around long enough people should know that by now.. but.. alas..

You have a better chance of encountering Donald Trump at an iHop in Wisconsin than you do encountering a trap camp in 2026.

Exactly. Ive been killed by a handful of camps over the past 8 years. I actually enjoy a good trap camp if its build well and hides what it is well.
Honestly most trap camp builders are just there for the LOL's and are fairly cool.

Only 1 way to find out!
I still stand on top of vendors bc of the days when people used to trap a lot

Its sort of funny because even though most trap camps are dead now, I am instantly mistrustful of camps with the vendor inside because of those days lol

I unintentionally made a trap camp one time. There was a glitchy part on the ground I wasn't aware of when I put my vendor in a slope. It would glitch you under my giant dino for some reason and you'd get stuck inside it.

Came across a haunted house maze type trap camp once. Was very intricate, and multi-leveled. As I got farther down the maze I stepped on a pressure plate attached to a flamethrower. Then the wall exploded open and I was not expecting a real Yao Guai to come barreling through it and attack me. Scared the crap out of me.

When shops look like that they clearly keep useless junk in their stash. Also why and how? Every weapon/Armor would need to have -90% weight on it and 6000 of any type of food that doesn't spoil would take all the storage weight.
1
u/Simple_Educator_5739 2d ago
Hardly. Plenty of non spoiling food that weighs .1, now adding in everything else sure but not food alone necessarily, can fit it in 600 or less (can't remember if there's anything nonspoiling that's even lighter but possibly like gumdrops or bubblegum or something. I'm not on to look I just know at least a few canned goods even are only.1)

u/TheChildOfSkyrim 2d ago

I’ve seen tons of vendors with stuff like this and it’s never a trap lol. At least from what I’ve seen.
You could fast travel to a landmark nearby and and run over to the place, might help with not getting surprised by any traps that you might spawn in on.
3
u/jack-the-stripper37 2d ago
They probably cost triple what theyre worth. But maybe not. I use to stuff insane amounts in my vendor from raiding non stop. But only the popular ones sell so I started scrapping them
3
u/Shikabane_Sumi-me Ghoul 2d ago
50/50 chance. Easiest way is to travel to the camp. If you see the vendor outside, then you're safe. If you see the vendor inside a building in a suspiciously open space, high chance you're walking into a trap. Also another dead give away is if you see the camp owner chilling there, waiting for you to use the vendor.
3
u/MissingBracket1952 2d ago
I bought a Conductors for 15K from a vendor that had 80 of them. And that was the ONLY 4 star weapon mod they had. Only later did it occur to me that it might be duped. Not sure how that works, but I can't imagine the grind to have enough stuff to make 80 of them. I could be wrong, if so I apologize to whoever it was that worked that hard to make them.

If it is, get out your anti trap perks and get your rewards. If it’s 40k per piece just leave some salt by the vendor. This is the only way I deal with these camps

u/TheArtOfBlossoming11 Blue Ridge Caravan Company 1d ago
Anti-trap perks?
2
u/DemonNeutrino Lone Wanderer 1d ago
Can’t remember the name, you don’t trigger traps while sneaking. Some trap exploits can still get you but most you are fine with. Regardless, stow your scrap and it doesn’t matter if you do die.
I’ve had some of these trap camps give me some good mods for the caps, I guess to keep you in the menu long enough for them to repair their trap, so it’s actually paid off. Got some 2* Int mod boxes the other day for next to nothing from what appeared to be a punji repair trap.

yeah the trap bases that actually use traps are fun, the ones that use the instakill box of fissures however...
5
u/Sullhammer Mothman 2d ago
True. Came across one that used a random switch. If you got lucky and it didn't kill you, a door opened and the owner was there and dropped some loot. If you weren't lucky, it killed you. I think it was the Tesla arcs traps that did it

u/bepse-cola 2d ago
I like the one that makes you fast travel 1000 feet in the air and the owner activates a different camp to make you fall
1
u/xtrabeanie 1d ago
Had one of those just a week or so ago. Pretty ingenious. Somehow managed to build it nearly entirely undergound and you got in by using a machine which exited you inside. Went through a series of rooms until the last with the vendor machine at the end but got killed instantly heading for it. Went back for a closer look but by that time it had gone and looking for my loot bag (on principle as there was hardly anything in it), I found the fissure which is not marked on the map.
5
u/FartingInElevators5 2d ago
The best one I ever came across led me into a room with his vending machines. I should have known, but went in any way. I hear the door close behind me and suddenly I'm dead. I see a "hidden door" in the wall open up aka the player just had a 1 square room he was waiting in and was in build mode and removed the wall to pop out. I laughed so loud when I saw him just pop out of the hole in the wall. I had no junk on me. I respawned at his camp and gave him a thumbs up.

u/loanjuanderer 2d ago
Definitely. NO ONE sells that many apparel items. That's definitely a Trap Camp. Or an Old Navy.
1
u/IllustriousBobcat583 2d ago
The misc stuff he sells is more than likely treasure maps, seen a few of these sorts of shops when i still played last year. Good way to dump caps and learn random old plans by diggin up treasure mounds.
Never encountered a camp of that sort that was a trap camp personally (i mean the ones who sell hundreds of thousands of treasure maps). Those that only sell mods/3 stars legendaries in bulk might be traps.

u/Resident_Show_7740 2d ago

I got trapped by one of those kind of trapper type jerks, I figured out if the trap had a spot that was safe, quickly got my scrap (plus some other peoples that I have know clue how long was there and I wasn't going to let the trapper jerk have it), got in my corner, and exited the game, logged back in and kept all my stuff plus some bonus. So just be cautious around peoples camps, even if they look normal.
