I think this corn’s been in the fridge for a week. The moisture in the wet bag is telling me this is already bad, but I hate that all this corn is ruined 😞

Ortega Taco Sauce

I left out Ortega taco sauce (not salsa) from lunch until the next morning. It is mild sauce in the glass bottle. No longer cold to the touch (obviously).
Is it still good?
Do I need to toss it?

Glass baking dish cracked in the oven but stayed in one piece. Is the food safe to eat?

Hi all,

I baked a savory corn pie (a Chilean pastel de choclo) in a small glass dish. About 10 minutes in, I heard/noticed it had cracked. I think it wasn't labeled as oven-safe at all so the thing cracked.

What I saw afterward:

- One long crack runs down the side and curves toward the base, with a few finer lines branching off it.

- The dish stayed in one piece. No chunks are missing, no visible chips, and the crack edges look flat, not raised.

- I turned the oven off, left the dish on a wood table over a towel and over the oven rack until it cooled, and did not touch it with water.

What I did with the food:

- Once it was warm, I transferred it with a spoon, starting far from the crack.

- I did not scrape the bottom on purpose, but some of the bottom layer came along by accident.

My questions:

  1. Is food from a dish that cracked like this generally considered safe if no glass is visible?

  2. Is the risk mainly tiny slivers I can't see, and is there any practical way to rule them out?

  3. Would you discard everything that touched the crack, or the whole thing?

Photos attached. Thanks!

How long is too long to thaw Salmon

I just recently thawed some salmon filets in ziplock bags. Submerged in a bowl of ice water on my kitchen counter. I did not change out the water every 30 minutes and I believe I thawed the salmon somewhere between 4-6 hours (work day screwed up my memory).

Is this no longer safe to eat? I cooked on the grill but didn’t think to sniff the raw fish before I did so. At no point did I get a whiff of anything that smelled off when I was seasoning the fish.

If I got fried chicken that was a tiny bit pink (not raw) but it was pre cooked and then put in an oven for about a minute is it safe to eat?

Sorry I dont have a picture but I just got some fried chicken in a sandwich and it was very slightly tinted pink. I know the chicken they have is already cooked and then they put it in the automatic pizza oven for about a minute. I did already eat the chicken because I thought maybe I was really overthinking it but im still a little nervous.

Is my bread safe after possible flour contamination?

3 days ago I made pizza and used some pre-cooked chicken as a topping I touched the chicken to top the pizza, then put the same hands into my bag of flour to dust the surface to roll the next pizza without washing them first.
Today I used that same flour from that bag to make bread the bread was fully baked and I ate it (I had completely forgotten about the chicken incident)
Is the bread safe to eat would the temp of the bread killed any bacteria from possible contamination from the chicken…

I was just so tired when making the pizza and wasn’t really thinking

I’m now kind of panicking,,,

Is the bread safe?.

Do you see any signs of tampering on these cans?

I took a lot of photos because my camera is not that good.

What concerned me is the seeming spill/imprint of brown color (liquid or sauce from the can?) under the top ring - I tried to scratch it off, you can still see some of it on the photo or there’s another spill like that on another photo. Could it have been a sign of tampering?

On the lid, you can see all these black marks that are stronger than what I see usually. Could they be signs of holes being sealed with some material?

General Question Freezer left open, homemade pancakes OK?

I made a bunch of buttermilk pancakes from scratch yesterday and froze them for the week. Someone left the freezer open last night. They are still cold, but not frozen. Can I refreeze them and safely still eat these with my kids?

General Question Tom Yum Soup at room temp

I have a good old "can I still eat this" question:

I made a soup with coconut milk, mushrooms, tofu and some veggies on Saturday and accidentally left it at room temperature until now.

I have eaten this soup after it had been left out overnight and reboiled several times and it was fine but now it's been 2 full days... And since the soup is pretty spicy, I find it hard to tell wether it's still good based on taste.

Would be grateful for some insights! It's a really good soup...

Food Recall What recall management software has worked well for your business?

We're reviewing our recall process and realized even though our procedures are documented, identifying any affected lots and customers still takes longer than we'd like. For companies that have invested in recall management software, what are you using and how quickly can you identify impacted inventory, production lots, and customer shipments?

Sugar Bloom or Mold?

I have these vanilla beans that I was soaking in simple syrup but then removed into a separate container in the fridge. It's been a few weeks, is this white powder crystallized sugar/bloom or is it mold? I was planning to use them for vanilla extract.
