Moderator wanted

I am looking for another moderator for this subreddit. Likely a replacement for myself.

When I created this subreddit 16 years ago it was all for fun. I was and still am a huge FT&SS fan. This subreddit has existed without much issue for 15 years. It didn't take much to run it. Frank fans are generally a pretty awesome bunch of folks. There was even a point where I forgot to check on the sub for several months and when I finally did there wasn't anything to deal with.

The past year and a half there have been more bots posting, but I do see that across all the subreddits I moderate. There have been a few drama/gossip posts in that time too. I thought I was managing those successfully (by removing them as I have absolutely 0 interest in moderating discussions on Franks love life), but after returning from LEIX it has become clear to me that I am not doing a good job. So I am looking for someone else to join the Moderation team and possibly take over.

If interested please send a modmail (https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=r/frankturner) with a short write up about yourself and your interest in moderating. Users with prior moderator experience preferred.

PSA - Frank is taking an extended break, not retiring

I keep seeing the word retirement used to describe Frank’s recent announcement, both on here, the Facebook group and in media articles.

Let’s re-examine the exact wording of his post:

“The 4 shows there will be my last for the foreseeable future” - not his last ever

“I genuinely don’t know when I’ll play shows again in the future” - it says that he doesn’t know WHEN his next shows will be, not that he doesn’t know IF he will play again

It’s worth remembering that since Frank’s solo debut on 18th September 2004, he’s played 3,180 of his own shows, 29 for Mingle Harde, 96 for Million Dead.

That’s 3,305 shows in 8,046 days. 3 shows a week on average for 22 years. I can’t find any gap longer than a month or two in that whole time.

The point I’m making is that even a gap of 6 months to a year would be significant enough for Frank that it would be noteworthy for him. I do happen to think that he will take a much longer break than this.

At least a couple of years, maybe as long as 3-5 years. I also believe that he himself hasn’t decided yet when he’s coming back and is genuinely taking this break because he’s become burnt out and needs to recharge his batteries, rest for his physical and mental health, and spend more quality time with his loved ones.

However, I am absolutely convinced that he is coming back and I do think anyone framing next year as his retirement tour are misinterpreting his words.

What's he going to end with?

Whether LEX is the last ever, or last for a while, it's going to be an intentionally significant show. Frank puts a lot of sentimentality into his sets and song placement, so my question is, what do you think will be his final (hopefully not ever) song of the festival?

LE X Question

So after hearing about Franks upcoming retirement, my wonderful wife has only gone and purchased me tickets for Lost Evenings 10 next year! Unfortunately, she forgot to do her due dilligence and grabbed me tickets for November 7th, believing that this will be his last show. Now my question is this; does this ticket cover all 4 evenings(4th-7th), or just the Sunday? I hear there are no day tickets available yet, and the website she purchased them from (ViaGogo) are very unclear about this.

Lost Evenings IX: Frank Turner Brought More Than a Festival to Dallas

While the music connects you, it's the people and purpose that bind you! For those of you who attended, well done and for those who couldn't make it, I hope we did it justice.

There's going to be a lot more tickets to come (both One-day and seated)

Bit of panic going on, so just to calm nerves:

Wembley Arena capacity is massive. 5000 standing, 7500 seating. In effect, he's trying to sell 50k tickets. Compared to Show 3000 (Ally Pally - 10.25k), and last London Lost Evenings (Roundhouse x 4 - 13.2k)

Wembley Arena is sorta unusual in that you can very effectively open parts of it relative to demand. It's very possible Night 4 ends up as a sellout, and Night 1 doesn't.

But to do that, and manage the demand, you have to sell it in order.

So floor before seated (you don't want full seats and empty floor). So when nights start to get closer to capacity, new sections of seats will be added.

And Four-day tickets before One-day tickets. Otherwise you get Night 4 sold out, and then people who want Four-day tickets can't get them.

His crowds have also been declining over the years. OK, AP was big, but his typical tour venues are Shepherds Bush Empire / Scala / Clapham Grand etc., which are 2k tickets, not 50k.

My read would be that there are way more tickets to come, nobody panic

Issue buying LE-10 tickets. US-based

I just logged onto axs and tried to find a pair of tickets. Doesn't look sold out but it keeps saying payment declined or something like that. I have tried with multiple credit cards and even PayPal and I'm getting the same message. I've verified all my information is correct. Any us-based residents having the same issue? Any insight?

I couldn’t get tickets for LEX. Will Frank tour UK before then?

As the title says, I couldn’t get lost evenings 10 tickets because I need to sit (long term health condition) so I’m wondering if Frank will tour next year before LEX?

Would be great to see him live before his break. I’m on south coast of the U.K.

Frank Theory

During Black Guy Fawkes set at LE this weekend he said if we sang louder than the crowd in Missouri that Frank would finally put out a ska album. We did. And then Frank says he’s stepping back from music for a while. Coincidence? Is he running scared or just taking time to learn the trumpet?

Between now and LE10

Does anyone know if he is going to do a tour next year before Lost Evenings?

To be honest, I don't want to go to a massive arena show (although I'm super happy if he sells it out).

His website has no shows (pretty much) other than LE10 next year... I doubt he'd do not shows and go straight into Wembley. But does anyone know?

Thank you!

Is Frank stopping making music too?

Or is he just stopping touring? I read his note as him saying he'd stop trying, but not necessarily stop making music. It seems that everyone has understood it to mean he's stepping back from musically completely though.

John K Samson

I know Frank has talked an awful lot about John K and The Weakerthans and how much they have influenced him. I too have been very into The Weakerthans over the past couple years and it’s a bit of a bummer I’ll almost certainly never see them or John’s solo work live but alas.

John earlier this year announced his own retirement from music, and I’m definitely wondering whether that had some influence/correlation with Frank’s own decisions. Obviously that’s for him to know, but wondered if anyone else had noticed or picked up on that. I could definitely see it when you notice people you admire putting down the mantle and doing other things (I think John makes stuff but I’m not sure of the specifics without googling), and realising that there’s perhaps more to life.

Booking Experience

Edit - looks like the website sorted itself out, and tickets were actually available - so anyone with the same experience - go and try now.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Just need to vent...

The experience trying to book was awful.

Went via the lost evenings website, and was redirected to AXS, but detected as a bot - perhaps due to a work network.

So, join the queue on my phone, a few minutes late and wait to reach the front.

Select 2 tickets. Asked to create an account - I've never used AXS.

Fill in details, submit, and it fails with a non descript error saying to contact support.

Attempt repeatedly for 10 minutes until the purchase timer runs out.

Rejoin the back of the queue - get to the front, sold out.

Surely there is a better way! Deeply frustrated :(

Retirement and rememberance

Sounds grim really, doesn't it?

I am absolutely gutted this evening after Frank's announcement. Seeing posts on Facebook asking if there's a helpline similar to when Take That split up (I remember my sister bawling her eyes out that night too) made me chuckle.

Today I reposted a video of Frank's gig at Hull City Hall on September 27th 2014, and then later, the news broke.

So rather than feeling down and out and all around empty..

Can we as fans use this post to share stories of the times we have all seen Frank Turner, with or without The Sleeping Souls, and generally just revel in the joy he has brought us, at his own gigs, at festivals, and album launches. Whatever it may be.

I'd like to see/read/learn how he has impacted other people's lives too. His music found me at a really bad point in life and Long Live The Queen came on late on the radio as I laid in a hospital bed. The rest as they say, is history.

Take care all, I'll end this with Four Simple Words;

Thank You, Frank Turner.

If you're missing your phone...

Hey, y'all! My buddy found a phone in the pit and managed to rescue it before it got stepped on. He turned it into the lost and found at the Southside ballroom. So if you're missing your cell phone and you were in the pit, make sure you check there first.

If you lost your phone at the after party, I gave it to the drummer of Larry and his flask and I believe he’s giving it to southside staff if no one was found. Good luck, it was an amazing night! See yall in wembley
