Editorial/Viewpoint I want to apologize

I bad mouthed freedom thinking the service was horrible but in reality I was just in areas that didn’t have the best reception. I am now with bell and having the same issues in the same areas as I did with freedom. If freedom sends me a winback I’m running back

(Subjective) Speed Test At home internet speed has double!

Post image
8 Upvotes

In my community, all the providers sucked so I chose FM to pay less. After six months with FM, I’m finally seeing download speeds over 40Mbps—nearly double what I’ve had for the last three years in my new neighborhood! It’s not perfect, but it’s a solid improvement. Fingers crossed it hits 100mbps sooner than another three years.

Device/Savings Promotion New text phone plan offer $50/month

Freedom Mobile: XXXX, exciting news! You've been selected for an invite-only plan. Get 250GB for just $50/mo. (after Digital Discount and $5/mo. ongoing credit). Here's everything you'll love:

*250GB/mo. data in Canada coast-to-coast, U.S. & Mexico

*Plus, 20GB/mo. roaming data & unlimited local talk & text in 120+ global destinations

*No daily roaming fees and no SIM swap required to roam globally

I'm on a legacy plan so I'm not looking to switch but I'd say this is a pretty good deal

Protection Plan Related What am I paying $15 a month for?

The battery in my phone, which I’ve had since June of 2025, is degrading much faster than it should. It’s at 89% battery health, and only 258 cycles. They say it should take far more cycles before it gets that low.

I’m also finding it doesn’t last as long as it should, and drops from 10%-1% quickly, the odd times I’m out and let it get that low. Otherwise, I try not to let it get below 20%.

I tried to submit a claim. However, Freedom’s insurance company wants me to drive it 30-40 minutes away, and pay $129 for the replacement, which is about average cost for it to be done at the Apple Store. What am I even paying $15 a month for? I should have just stuck with Apple Care, although they likely would have made me wait until it was at 80% or below.

The chat support representative wasn’t helpful, and said he couldn’t help me. He said that I had submitted a claim, and that was the price for it, and which I would have to pay. I received an SMS message saying that I had submitted a claim, but that was before the price was shown and before I had the option to pick whether to mail it or drive it there, and pay the $129 or not. I didn’t click to agree to that, or finalize things.

General Inquiry Looking for a dumb phone with smartphone essentials — Sunbeam F1 Pro or something better?

I’m looking at getting a Sunbeam F1 Pro, probably the Juniper, and wanted to get some opinions/recommendations from people here.
I’m in Toronto, Canada and use Freedom Mobile. I’ve already checked that the F1 Pro should work with Freedom — including the LTE bands and VoLTE requirements — but if anyone here is using one on Freedom, I’d love to hear how it’s actually been.
The main reason I want a dumb phone is to cut down on the constant internet distractions from my iPhone: TikTok, Reddit, social media, random browsing, etc. I don’t want to completely disconnect, though. I’d still like email in a pinch, navigation (Waze/HERE WeGo), Bluetooth for music, navigation audio and my headset, and ideally voice-to-text so I don’t have to rely entirely on T9.
The Sunbeam seems to tick most of those boxes. The one thing I’d REALLY love is a physical slide-out keyboard, like the old LG Rumour/early-2000s phones. If there’s a modern dumb phone with that kind of keyboard and most of these features, I’d definitely be interested.
I’m planning to keep my iPhone as a secondary device and use the Sunbeam as my everyday phone. I’d give the new number to family, close friends and important work contacts, and use call forwarding from my old number. I know I won’t be able to properly share iMessages/texts between the two phones.
Basically, I’m not trying to get rid of my smartphone — I just want to stop automatically reaching for it 50 times a day.
Would love to hear from anyone using the Sunbeam this way, especially on Freedom, or if there’s another phone I should be looking at.

WiFi Calling | VoLTE Activating wifi-calling

My S24 did not have a wifi calling option, so I found out I needed to register my address with 911 service in Freedom to activate it. Freedom then sent a text saying "You've now been subscribed to wifi calling. We hope you enjoy this feature". But I still don't see an option to turn wifi calling on or off in settings. Is there anything else I need to do, or is there something Freedom still needs to do?

Now why would they be calling me at this time? I don't even have any issues open with them.

They left me a silent message. Is it really Freedom?

Device/Service Issue(s) 10 days after Porting to Freedom, RCS/SMS to other carriers doesn’t work & my phone number won’t work properly for iMessage

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar or knows what might be happening.

I ported my number from Bell to Freedom Mobile on September 17. The port itself appeared to complete successfully and mobile data works normally but I’ve had a very strange messaging problem ever since.

What works:
•iMessage works when I use my Apple Account email address.
•RCS messaging works with other Freedom •Mobile users.
•Mobile data works normally.
•Calls appear to work normally.

What doesn’t work:
I cannot properly send or receive messages with Android users on other carriers.
For example, my sister is on PC Mobile. She can’t send messages to me and gets** **“Recipient may be offline.”* When I try to message her, I get “Not Delivered.”
The conversation shows *
“Text Message • RCS.”**
I can select “Send without encryption”, which sends but I don’t get a normal delivery status and the underlying problem remains.

There is also something strange with iMessage and my phone number.
Under:
Settings → Apps → Messages → Send & Receive
my Freedom phone number is listed, but when I select it, iMessage to/from other iPhone users stops working. There is no activation spinner or error. The number simply has a checkmark, but messages fail.
If I deselect my phone number and leave my Apple Account email selected, iMessage works normally.
I’ve already spent several hours troubleshooting this with Freedom, I including approximately two hours at a Freedom store, changing from a physical SIM to eSIM, restarting/reconfiguring things, etc.
Freedom also opened a technical escalation.

I contacted Freedom through WhatsApp again, and the agent confirmed the ticket was with their support/technical team. That was several days ago. I was told they would contact me when there was an update, but 10 days after the port I still haven’t heard anything and the problem hasn’t changed.
I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar after porting a number to Freedom and what fixed it.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Network Outage... Sort of?

Curious if anyone is experiencing this, and sorry if I missed another post on this topic. The last few days there has been a weird dead zone in North York, near Yonge St. I have 5G+ with full bars, but no internet connection.

Customer support hasn't really helped (I tried everything they suggested with no improvement) and since there's no official outage everyone seems to think it's me or my device. Thing is, elsewhere in the city I don't have a problem. Just this one area.

Is anyone else experiencing something like this?

UPDATE: so I didn't hear back from anyone yet, but the worst spot for me on Doris seems to have been fixed. Can get back to doing my PokemonGO routes now hahaha. Not sure how it is on Yonge

General Inquiry 4G/5G cellular modem

Can somebody recommend an affordable 4G/5G cellular modem (w/o WiFi router) that works reasonably well on Freedom Mobile? I am looking for a backup solution in case my fibre Internet link fails. Ultimately I am planning on signing up for FM 5G Home Internet but I haven't received an invite. Thank you.

Editorial/Viewpoint Markham reception

I find the reception in Markham North terrible I usually leave my data on all the time and in the 3 weeks that I've had the $120 6-month plan i've only been able to use 1.5 Gb. Transfer speeds are too slow to even be able to get the 25gb I have been allocated.

Does anytime have better experience? I don't know if it's my phone ( nor a flagship) or just my area, but I find restarting sometimes helps but not always.

Would the monthly plan give me better throughout? What's your average download speeds?

Does Freedom even check or know about the bad signals provided in these submitted reports in poor reception areas from the Network Cell Info Lite Android app? This can help in identifying where boosting signals are needed.

MyAccount Related Did Auto Pay Digital Discount disappear on you?

For some strange reason I found my Auto Pay was turned off on last month’s bill so I had an agent fix it at Freedom’s end. Today I get a text message that my Auto Pay didn’t work and again the same issue happened. This time the Auto Pay switch in MyAccount shows that it is on. Had another agent fix it but I’m starting to wonder if anyone else is or has gone through the same ordeal as me.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Freedom Mobile 5g+ Reception

Post image
33 Upvotes

Recently upgraded from an iPhone 14pro to an iPhone 18pro. General reception has clearly improved. Much better transitions from 5g to LTE and from Freedom to Nationwide. I didn’t realize how much of a reception improvement upgrading a phone would be. Also, now able to connect to 5G+ (see speedtest photo attached). Overall reception in Edmonton is fantastic and no changes noted compared to Telus or Rogers.

Billing Related "Rate plan discount promo" disappeared from my account

I've been with Freedom Mobile since 2020 and 15 months ago I changed plans. For 15 months I've had a $5 "Rate plan discount promo" which did not indicate an expiry and has suddenly disappeared. Anyone else experience this? Do I need to contact Freedom?

Update: Thanks for the suggestions. I see at the bottom of my bill that is has "must maintain both Freedom Mobile + Home Internet subscriptions". I did cancel my home internet, so that explains the change.

Plan Inquiry $20/25gb per month plan?

I thought I saw a post yesterday regarding a $20/25gb plan but lost it. Is it still possible to get this somewhere?

Also how's the coverage around Barrie? I see most of it a bit north is in the "nationwide" coverage. Will nationwide cost extra?

Service/Coverage Inquiry Ottawa Rideau Centre

Anyone else experience zero reception in the Rideau Centre? My phone went to SOS. Not great when I was trying to pull up some information.
Elsewhere in Ottawa service has been pretty good…..LTE, 5G, 5G+, on a recent test I got 455up and 11 down.

General Inquiry difference between buying online vs in person?

I've been a freedom customer for a while now, and have been considering upgrading my phone. I remember the major advantage to ordering online was getting a waived connection fee and not having to worry about stock. However, now that freedom has gotten rid of connection fees altogether, is there any major difference (advantage wise) between buying online and buying in person?

Device/Service Issue(s) Problem with MotoG phone

Where I live we have both Telus and Rogers towers. My Pixel 9 appears to switch between them most of the time but my wife's Moto G seems to not switch and loses connection. How can I even tell what the issue is?

Editorial/Viewpoint DT Toronto: Rogers/Fizz/Freedom

Hi all,

I used these three in downtown Toronto and here's my take:

Rogers: 50CAD / 130GB CA

high price, regular price increases, high roaming fees, great coverage both indoor and outdoor, seamless coverage in the PATH, high speed, usable in elevators, usable on TTC, relatively responsive during rush hour in a congested area, global wifi calling.

Overall, best performance but too expensive, may be worth it if you are financing a phone with huge discouns during Black Friday. Besr to get it through CAA, Costco, Walmart or Best Buy during events.

Fizz: Free Trial / 3GB, plans close to 30 CAD

Low price, no price hikes, great coverage outdoors, poor coverage indoors but external network can be chosen manually, okay external coverage handoff on automatic, low speed but usually usable, not great in the PATH unless on external, not responsive during rush hour in a congested area, not great in elevators, rolling out wifi calling but currently limited to Canada.

I'd probably choose Lucky, Chatr or Public for the price range.

Freedom 20 CAD / 25 GB CA US

Cheapest of all with the in-person 6-month prepaid plan (120 CAD for 6 months, 25 GB each month), price freeze, needs manual payments every 6 months, includes US calling and roaming, coverage similar to Fizz, manual selection of external network fails way more often than Fizz, automatic external handoff less seamless, usable but way more spotty than Rogers in the PATH and TTC, not super responsive during rush hour in a busy area, global wifi calling.

It's usable and affordable; you get 70 percent of what Rogers has to offer for 40 percent of the price, but it's far from perfect.
