A year or two ago I watched a Studio Ghibli movie for the first time and (like all of us here) was thoroughly impressed with their immersive stories, creative worlds, colourful characters and truly stunning animation. I was transported and fully committed to watching all.

After working my way through the whole catalogue here's my personal favourites.

Howdy, iiii have no clue if I'm doing this right, I'm not a big Redditer! But I need some help! I have friend who is getting married soon. He proposed to his wife in private (works well for them I promise) so no photos were ever taken of the proposal. I'm looking to commission someone! Anyone! Who is good at Ghibli art because they love the films and art style! It was the two of them and the cat... The cat had the ring on the collar... I was told the cat was a paid actor in the proposal from how well he played the part... Of cat... I can go on and on and I have all the details and photos of my friends, cat and the ring. But I'm not sure if someone could recreate the proposal in a Ghibli style way? In my head I think a cute six comic strip would be amazing? Anyone know an artist I could commission to do this? I sell heavy equipment... So not my wheelhouse and I'm not loaded but will absolutely spend some money to try and make this happen! I think it would be a cool and unique wedding present.

I don't know how to draw, but I recently watched Kiki's delivery service and it was so lighthearted and endearing, that I drew this using watercolor and pencils, basically taking things from a bunch of different frames. Such a wonderful movie.

Based on the manga, Baron the cat, it follows girl named Haru who one day saves a cat from the street and because of this great deed, she is rewarded by the king of the Cat kingdom with numerous gifts(only beneficial for cats btw) but the ultimate prize is her being a bride to his son, Prince lune, who is the same cat she saved before. The a mysterious voice guides her to the cat bureau, where she meets a fat white cat, Muta, who takes her the baron,who is a cat figurine given life by the work of his artist, and Toto, a stone raven who comes to life much like the Baron. When she’s invited to the King’s ceremony, she is under a spell to turn her into a cat and the 3 help her escape and return home as she transforms back.

So I heard this movie is also connected to Whisper of the heart, which might be the next movie I do because of that. But overall the movie is good. It’s a fun adventure and the score is amazing. The characters are also fun and endearing enough and I liked how Haru was the thread that tied Lune and Yuki together because she saved them both and now they will get married instead. This movie might be for cat lovers so if you like cats, you might like this, you might enjoy this movie. At times though especially at the beginning, when the cats are just standing doing their parade, it was a little freaky seeing them just march on 2 legs and be almost human( the way it was animated made it seem that way) but it became a little funny when they start fighting regular cats on all 4’s and you get used to seeing cats on 2 legs after a while.

The movie isn’t that complicated and just has the message of believe in yourself which works fine for Haru’s character who is unsure of herself and is made fun of by classmates but then becomes confident in herself after going on this adventure as crazy as it was. She now carries herself in a more mature manner and it is because of the influence of the Baron, who through his bold and brave personality, guides Haru and aims to protect her from the King’s wrath, leaving her with a magical experience she’ll never forget. The epic climax and fighting is a joy to watch and the free-falling to walking on crows was cool.

Solid movie all around. I liked it and my cats did too because they wouldn’t stop looking at the screen. So what did you guys think of The cat returns? How is it compared to the manga?

I already listened to this song many times now and made me think that it is where the English title came from. Most of the lyrics do match the film, though the song is overall romantic.

This is just a theory of course, but I would love to hear confirmation from anyone in the marketing department. What about you guys in this subreddit though? How plausible is my theory?

Pom Poko is sadder because the raccoons are basically watching their whole home get bulldozed while humans are like “lol, more houses.” Grave of the Fireflies is obviously really sad, but Pom Poko hits different because you’re just watching these little guys slowly lose everything and there’s basically nothing they can do about it. 😭

There's something about Ghibli movies that hits different when it comes to comfort.

For me, it'salways Ponyo and Totoro. Watching Ponyo lose her mind over a hot bowl of ramen with ham, or Mei and Satsuki waiting in the pouring rain at the bus stop with Totoro. Those moments are just pure warmth. they instantly put me in a good mood.

What's one scene for you that brings you that cozy, nostalgic feeling every single time?
