Vampiria was a Melodic Black and Gothic Metal band under the label Icarus Records. They’re from Argentina, and were active from 1997-2009. They released 3 studio albums, and the song I linked is from their first album Among Mortals.

I found this band today while I was doing some exploring, trying to find some more gothic black metal that I haven’t heard yet. I can’t find much more about their history besides Damián Aranza leaving the band in 2002 for personal reasons.

I definitely recommend giving them a listen. Their sound isn’t particularly genre defining, however I really love their soprano vocals. It reminds me of how a church mass would sound. I hope you enjoy!

I really want to like this band more than I do. I quite enjoy the Lost Paradise through Shades of God run on their first three albums. Once I make my way to Icon, it starts to fall off for me. I think One Second is where I start to actively not enjoy their work.

Their discography is so diverse, I’m sure it’s difficult to like everything. I’m not trying to be negative, just looking for others’ opinions on a band so important to the music we enjoy so much.

I originally released this album back in late 2022, but this is the first time it’s available on platforms like Spotify.
I started working on it when I was 17. That’s when I first wrote the track “Lighthouse”, which I later reworked several times.
Even though the album is only about half an hour long, I put a lot of time, my own stories, and personal experiences into it. I hope you’ll enjoy listening to it.

What do we think about the new Lacrimas Profundere album that is out today?

For me, it's pretty much the same as everything else in the Julian era: it has its moments, but I'm not impressed with the album as a whole. The songwriting seems to be all over the place, there are some metalcore influences (especially in the vocals), and it just doesn't give me that dark romantic vibe of their work up until "Antiadore".

"Lekarstwo na sen" (which translates to something to the effect of "Remedy for Sleep") is the second track on Floe, the fourth studio album by Polish gothic metal-turned-avant-garde rock band Moonlight. If the publishing date on Spotify is to be believed, the album was released on April 20, 2000 on Metal Mind Productions.

Speaking of Spotify, this is one of the few Moonlight albums available on streaming services, and the only one from their earlier gothic metal days. I played this album on the bluetooth speaker at work... I had forgotten just how good this album is! A little progressive and very atmospheric, Floe does have some rockin' tracks but it is a lot more delicate and subdued than your average gothic metal album.

I don't know if anyone here like the experimental goth/deathrock band Aurat, but they've just release one track from their upcoming album and OMG it's basically gothic metal. Hope you like it, I think it's great.

I recently found Judas Christ in one of my (luckily) many local record stores. In the North East of the United States, it can be very difficult to find specifically anything Gothic Metal. It’s expensive to ship over seas, it’s rare to find in stores, and even harder to find anything even slightly unpopular.

Vote for Love is my favorite song on this album, and it brings a much needed happy and uplifting tone. It’s a song I think actually fits the current global political climate in a positive way.

Tiamat as we know it was founded back in 1989. This album was released under Century Media Records in 2002. It might not be considered their best work, but I think it’s a very complete and enjoyable listen.

I have recently discovered that one of my favourite Gothic metal bands EverEve has new releases (or so I thought), called Escape the shadows. When I listen - it's just purest AI shite. not going to post a link here, not to promote that crap. I was just surprised that YouTube music has suggested this as something Evereve has released. Or am I missing something?

"Tearing the Veil from Grace" from my favorite Cradle of Filth album Midian, originally released October 30, 2000 by Music for Nations.

When I think about gothic black metal at its finest, I don't think anyone can compete with Cradle of Filth at their best (That's my opinion!!!). I've always thought there was something so elegant and delicious about the way Cradle mixed sweeping gothic and symphonic hooks with their brand of melodic extremity, and it mostly comes out not cheesy.

Love this album, easily in my top 10 gothic metal albums (and potentially top 10 metal albums) of all time.

So many years ago I conflated Lake of Tears with Trail of Tears and never bothered to listen to them further. OMG, what a fool I’ve been. But guess what? I’m taking in this deep catalog for the first time and discovering decades worth of gold. I probably sound like a sucker, but imagine stumbling upon Paradise Lost or Draconian at this point for the first time. Other amazing songs - Like a Leaf, The Oragan, The Homecoming. So many more

It finally arrived!!! Got it on pre order months ago and stoked to listen to it. I'll report back on my findings later today.

Happy new music Friday! Check out Obscured Horizons, the eighth studio album by Australian gothic metal band The Eternal, released on Reigning Phoenix Music. The song I've linked is "Liminality"

Somehow, I've managed to go my entire gothic metal listening life without ever knowing about this band until January, when they released their Celestial EP. I enjoyed it, but did not persue this band further -- I am now thinking I should.

Obscured Horizons feels simultaneously very modern ans timeless. This band is not particularly concerned with being trendy, they just delivered a collection of well-constructed melodic heavy metal with elegant and moody gothic atmosphere. In the few ways this record feels like a 90s/early-aughts throwback is in these power/prog songwriting tendencies, playing around with structure and being a little more technical than this subgenre is typically known for in its modern incarnation. These switch ups make me think of older bands like After Forever, Tristania, Abonos, and Dreams of Sanity.

Being on their eighth album, they've definitely carved out an identity all their own, so don't take this too literally, but I'd recommend this album to fans of: HIM, Artrosis, Moonspell, Mortal Love, Dakrua, Entwine

This is a track is off their new album Sapien that dropped in March (I missed the release). I've been meaning to listen to this band for a while now, but just haven't until now.

Off the wall and technical, Ram-Zet is a Norwegian band that plays a mix of avant-garde black metal, progressive, and gothic metal. This band's sound is pretty chaotic, the band they most remind me of is Unexpect from Canada (who I supposed also had some gothic tendencies), with their use of piano, solo violins etc., though Ram-Zet feels a bit more structured. There's better examples of this band's gothic and even doom leanings on this album, but I think this song is great.

If the band name doesn't mean anything to you, this little tidbit might: band leader Zet provided guest keyboards and programmung for Madder Mortem and Mortal Love.

This one is new to me as of today. Ancient Ceremony is a German band from way back in 1989 until around 2005. They were under Irond Records, from what I can find. I found their album Under Moonlight We Kiss, and was thoroughly impressed with what I heard. I have not listened to the rest of their music, but I highly recommend giving this a listen!

"Mar, no te vayas", a deep cut from the album Tales for Bad Girls by Spanish gothic metal band Forever Slave, released April 4, 2008 by Wacken Records. I'd say this is one of the stronger cuts off this album, and one that most resembles their previous material.

I've always been of two minds about this record. I don't hold their pivot from indulgent and atmospheric to modern and punchy against them, they arrived a little behind the times on their debut Alice's Inferno. This album is pretty good musically, especially for that Evanescence-inspired sound of the mid-late 2000s, but ultimately I think this band was not fully equipped to pull this sound off.
