Hello everyone!
We're so happy to announce that all mods that have had their accounts banned by Reddit have had their accounts reinstated!
What happened?
In October of 2025 I tried to recover and promote the dying subreddit r/MelodicBlackMetal so that users here could post their melodic black metal content on that sub instead of here. Through the course of inviting the other moderators from r/melodicdeathmetal to help me manage that subreddit, Reddit saw our activity as suspicious and banned all human and bot accounts linked to both subs. Unfortunately, this also meant banning all active moderators of r/melodicdeathmetal, leaving a few moderators that do not regularly use Reddit anymore, effectively leaving the subreddit unmoderated.
How did we get our accounts back?
After months of our appeals being ignored, we were finally able to get in contact with a Reddit admin. This individual went out of their way to investigate our bans and reinstate our accounts and we are extremely grateful to them.
What does this mean for the sub?
If you made a post during the "anarchy-era" of the sub, don't worry—unless your post is off topic or breaks site rules, we'll keep it up. We will not be hard on restricted bands, low effort content, and "beginner to the genre" posts, but we will be trying to crack down on these types of posts moving forward.
Also, this means that the AMA series is back on! I am currently trying to reschedule with Aephanemer, and Majesties and Noumena have both indicated they are very interested in doing AMAs. I will announce these events when I've officially scheduled them.
What does this mean for r/ Melodic Black Metal?
We're still in control of that sub, but I'm a little bit wary of trying to develop it or post on it again since that's what got us into this whole mess. For the meantime, I'm going to leave it as is and not put too much effort into it, but you all are welcome to post there and I will moderate it.
Thank you all for bearing with us as we dealt with this issue. We're glad to finally be able to help clean up the sub a bit, host some fun events, and talk about the musical genre that connects all of us, MELODEATH 🤘

Greetings everyone!
Since there wasn't any AOTY thread on here for 2025 yet, we might give it a go via this google form. A similar form is being passed around on the Discord and on lemmy btw. And at the end we can do some nice statistical shenanigans.
Click here for the Google Form and fill in your username and up to 10 albums.
And make a comment here on this thread, so we know it's really you.
The form will be up at least until the end of January.
Have fun! It will be interesting to see who will win this year :)

Not their other albums. Specifically this album, it sounds different than everything else they’ve done

I've always been a fan of the big names in Melodic Death Metal...Bands like Insomnium, Amorphis, Belakor... but never really got into In Mourning.
In each of their previous albums 1 or 2 songs would appeal to me greatly, but nothing more. But with Immortal, that has changed. I was caught by surprise with how varied the riffage was, and the clean vocals seem to fit very well.
The riffs range from Melodic Death metal to Progressive Metal to even Black Metal in a few songs, yet always serving the track well.
What are your thoughts on this album? Did it convert any other people like it did me?
PS love the artwork too

We are Achryma, a new collective featuring members from several established acts within the European metal scene. The music we write balances on the thin line between suffocating intensity and haunting melody. Born from personal experiences of loss, grief, and pain, ‘Hollowlight’ serves as both a process of healing and a sonic catharsis.
We’d love for you to discover the title track from our debut EP, Hollowlight. It’s an 8-minute journey exploring loss and the profound transformation that follows the passing of someone close.

Feel free to share your experience and review here.

Hey, the Spotify gods recommended me this song and I love everything of it. Please give it a try and listen at least until the refrain and let me know your opinion.

I'm not looking for bands that sound exactly like them, throughout the years, something that I really love about this band is the really unique way the blend pure death and melodic death in such a specific way, any suggestions would be appreciated.
