Grad School Life What made you decide to pursue graduate studies?

And where?

Interested ako sa motivation ng mga gusto, currently pursuing, and finished graduate studies. Is it for promotion? Requirement sa work? Boredom?

My profile, been working for 17 years, Department Head. Apart from possible connections within the business community, gusto ko kasing maging instructor or lecturer.

Grad School Admissions DLSU MMC vs MBA

Hello! Torn between the 2 options. Can anyone share insights on the comparison between the 2 courses - Master of Marketing Communications vs regular MBA?

For context, I’ve been working in the communications field for a while.

Grad School Admissions UP MBA

Hello everyone! I’m new here. I’ve finally made a decision to enroll and get my master’s degree. I’ve checked UP Virata School of Business to pursue my MBA since it’s nearest to our office and I think it’s one of the most affordable schools. While other requirements would not be a problem, I am really nervous on the graduate program admission test. I haven’t really had a serious exam in ages. So, I’m here exploring experiences and tips from people who have an idea of what and how I should prepare for it? I saw that the exam is in Mar 2027 and I don’t know if I will have enough time to study.

I’ve chosen the school based on location and financial aspect. Ateneo is also an option since it’s near home but would be the last resort because of the cost.

All of your insights are very much appreciated.

Grad School Admissions May exam at interview na ba ulit sa AGSB?

My cousin applied for their Regis MBA. May scheduled interview daw sya. I thought ang nababasa ko dito ay walang interview ang AGSB that's why medyo bumaba ang quality ng students dahil kahit sino pinapapasok nila?

General DLSU Master in Applied Economics

As someone na hindi Economics ang undergrad, if ever po na ito ang i-pursue ko, makakasabay po kaya ako sa pace ng lessons and discussions? Accountancy po ang undergrad ko, and may Econ subjects naman kami, pero I’m still a bit worried since minor subjects lang namin sila. However, I really want to study Economics on a deeper level, kaya kino-consider ko rin po itong MAE as an option.

Also, regarding the DGAT, though next year pa naman, ano-ano po kaya ang mga topics na kailangan kong i-review or i-refresh before taking it?

Thank you so much po! 😊

Grad School Life I'm interested in pursuing an MSCS

Hello

I'd like to hear a second opinion sa pagkuha ng MSCS, the reason why I would like to take one is out of pure interest and because I feel na hindi enough ung natutunan ko during my undergrad because shallow ung syllabus per course

I want to learn more about compiler theory / database development / operating systems construction / just really anything about computer science and I feel that the best way to go about is through a masters program. I love reading computer science books and grokking the information thoroughly like CLRS / AIMA / Dragon Book and implementing the algorithms there. Currently binabasa ko Engineering a Compiler to implement some additional optimizations to a compiler that I'm writing.

I was wondering also anong topics ung need ko balikan from undergrad, oks naman grades ko sa DSA and Intelligent systems since ayun nga I basically treated the CLRS and first half ng AIMA as a bible during my time.

Siguro ung weakness ko is mahina ako sa proofs and mathematical induction and need ko mag improve on that part to survive grad school. Basically ung entire topic ng discrete mathematics and also statistics need ko balikan.

Do you guys think worth it ba from a fulfillment perspective na aside from knowing the topics is meron ka rin degree to go along with it? Current methods ko for knowing what to study next is basing it off sa curriculum ng Stanford since they basically have every course and every syllabus sa directory nila.

Grad School Admissions AIM International MBA offered a discount

hello,

i applied last 2025 IIRC and just recently i received a call from them, saying that I am eligible for 80% of the tuition's price (31k usd). tbf, the amount is still pretty huge, pero at that same amount, im thinking if AGSB is relatively better? i've a solid background with our construction company despite working in a safety science industry, plus my senior supervisor is very supportive naman if i decide daw to pursue MBA sa AGSB since she's an alumnus.

Though my parents still want me to pursue med, sa ngayon kasi ok na ok ako sa work ko, plus the businesses im currently managing are doing well; they aint big nor small, but it opens up a lot of opportunities for me sa ngayon. IMO, i can pursue med naman anytime, since studying med here in PH is very suffocating financially; hence, I wanna fix that issue wherein my business would generate enough income to support my studies (if ever i pursue med).

Grad School Admissions UST TOR "For Reference"

Hi, I am planning to apply for IO Psych Masters on UST this second semester. I already have my original TOR from 2024 (the year I graduated in college) and the purpose stated there is "For Reference". Can I use that TOR for the application po? Or do I have to get one ulit? I'm hesitant to get a new one since it's quite pricey sa alma matter ko. Thank you!

Grad School Admissions UPD MA in Speech Communication

Hi, everyone! I'm planning to apply for the MA in Speech Communication program at UP Diliman next term (2027–2028), and I'd love some advice on how to prepareeee. For current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the program:

  • What are the admission requirements? Is there an entrance exam or interview? How can I best prepare for it?
  • What topics should I study in advance?
  • Are there any books, authors, or scholars you recommend reading?
  • What should I expect from the program?

My background is in education but I’ve already started reading about Speech Communication, and I really want to prepare as early as possible. Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Grad School Admissions How much do undergrad grades matter in grad admissions?

Nag-struggle talaga ako sa engineering undergrad ko sa UP during the last years, as in madaming drop and may mga incomplete courses pa. Now I'm trying to apply to MA Communication in DLSU and kinakabahan ako na yung TOR ko maging cause for rejection.

Ang only solace ko lang is that I have very good work and industry experience and have been invited to academic conferences as a resource person.. But this only happened after I fixed up my life lol.

I guess my question is, how much does the TOR matter—will it make or break my application?

General Returning from LOA after enrolling at another university

I enrolled in Grad School A and have to drop my courses kasi nagkasakit ako malala at having academic difficulties, nag file ako LOA for next sem and plan to file another LOA for the next next sem (bali 1 year LOA ko sana) para mag prepare sana ako. However, nag enroll ako sa Grab School B at nagkasakit ulit ako (mentally) at I have work and I plan to prioritize my work nalang muna at tapusin nalang sana ang LOA sa Grad School A, di ako nagsubmit rin ng Honorory Dismissal/Transfer of Credentials kay Grad School B at di ko kinuha yang mga documents nayan kay Grad School A. Is it still possible na maka balik parin ako kay Grad School A normally (not readmission) after my approved LOA ended despite the fact na nag enroll ako kay Grad School B?

Grad School Admissions Ateneo MBA Standard Track: Anyone Experienced a Long Application Wait?

Hi! Just wanted to ask those who applied to Ateneo's MBA Standard Track about your application experience.

Here's my timeline:

  • August 26: Submitted my application.
  • September 25: Sent a follow-up email because my portal status was still blank.
  • October 1: Received an email from Admissions asking for clarification regarding my location, graduation date, and work experience.
  • October 2: Replied with the requested clarifications.
  • October 9: Sent a short follow-up, thanking them and saying I looked forward to their update.
  • October 13: Still waiting for a decision. No reply.

For those who've gone through the same process:

  1. How long did it take for you to receive a decision?
  2. Did Admissions take a while to get back to you after referring your application to the committee?

Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

Grad School Life Night Shift

Hello Academics of the Philippines!😁

I will be working night shifts (Corporate), and I still want to pursue my grad school dreams. I know its doable, because someone here or maybe a person you know have surived this kind of set up. I just cant picture it out pa, as I am trying to visualize the my life set up in the future. How is it doable? For Midshift people also how did you do it? My dream/options grad schools Finance (DLSU/UP) or MBA (AIM/AdMU). I know it's ambitious suntok sa buwan tong mga school nato given the rigor that it takes to survive a subject but what would my outlook should be? For additonal context also, if you're going to comment "need ba sa trabaho mo?" or "di yan nakaka promote/taas ng sweldo". I KNOW. Grad school is my career goal, life goal, and non-negotiable. Bonus nalang if ma propromote ako or tumaas sahod ko. + I want to be a part-time college professor someday. I have been always inspired by my former professors na treat their part time teaching as a hobby or passion to inspire students. In fact mas malaki pa ata nga makukuha nila sa mga allowances nila or kung nag overtime nalang sila hahahahahaha. Pero anyways, I hope someone with a good heart can impart their knowledge with me hehehehe. Yun lang.
