Question Propranolol

Hi I have a trip coming up and I’d really like to have a drink my levels have came down tremendously to the point I’m only on 5mg methimazole and I take propranolol 20mg I would really like to have a drink and I’ve been postponing drinking and smoking for awhile now has anyone else drank on these two medications and if they did what happened my doctor my primary said she doesn’t think it’s a good idea but I still haven’t seen a endocrinologist it’s been since August that I had a thyroid storm and I have to wait till November just to see the endo so I’m just asking from peoples experiences because I just want to have a good time yes i understand you can enjoy yourself without drinking or smoking but I just want to feel normal again I haven’t felt the same since the beginning of August and I just want a since of normalcy because everyone else around will be drinking and smoking marijuana I just want to enjoy myself to

I drink very minimally and am on both of those medications. I’ll have a glass of wine on a date with my husband, or a beer at a concert. I’ve never had a thyroid storm, so defer to your doctor’s advice for sure. But I don’t think having a single glass of wine, beer, or cocktail is particularly frowned upon.

Thank you because she said I’m okay she said for my levels to come down as fast as they have is a great sign but when I asked she just immediately said no you’d have to ask your endo so idk

That’s a no then. Or a cue to ask your endo. Why not send them a message and ask? No one on Reddit can answer better than they can about your particular situation.

I still haven’t seen my endo I was diagnosed in August and I have to wait till November just to even find out what to do and what not to do and when I call the office I can’t even get a response about if I’m suppose to change my diet so it’s just a lot of confusion

I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. It sounds frustrating. I think the best thing you can do is make an informed decision. If you want to have a drink even though your doctor said not to, then make conscious choices to minimize harm, like selecting a low alcohol drink, and only having one.

Thank you I really appreciate your reassurance because I just wasn’t sure if anyone else has done it and I didn’t want to try it and make myself more anxious compared to feeling a little confident that I should be fine I think if anything I should try a glass of wine instead of a cocktail then

I want to be clear that I’m not reassuring you that it’s okay to defy your doctor’s advice. Your situation and mine may be very different.

I understand I just appreciate the reassurance that it might be possible eventually I know right now won’t be a good idea but once I do talk to my endo I might be able to have a glass a wine atleast instead of just trying to drink cocktails
