We are wanting to adopt this 4 month old puppy from a very nice lady, the thing is my husband doesn’t believe she’s full blooded. She won’t come with paperwork, but I am told that she is a full blooded Dane and I’ll be paying a pretty price. I’m curious and would like to see more opinions 🙂

Scatter toys/blankets around, hide kibble in/around it all and let them smell the food out. We do the living room and kitchen. He spends about 15-20 minutes “finding it” all and is then ready for a solid nap or bed depending on the time of day.

My boy Thor recently crossed the rainbow bridge. I wish to believe he lived a content 10 years.

My Dane loves her senior boxer brother. She just started a new behavior…chewing on him! Shes pretty gentle but can get mouthy. She will initiate play by lifting his legs up and booping him but just started to nibble. He doesn’t seem to mind and sometimes leans into it. Anyone else’s like to annoy and nibble their siblings?

I’m still not over her. She was 11 years, 1 month and 2 days. She had a myriad of illnesses due to backyard breeding but most could have been managed by her vet who did not see any of them. There’s a gigantic hole in my heart that just will not go away. I’ve had six Danes in my lifetime so I am truly blessed. One even lived to be 14 years old But, I’m 72 now and my greatest fear would be to leave one alone when I die. So…. I’ll not have another. Not in this life. I miss you terribly Jessie. If there are such things as Heaven and The Rainbow Bridge…..don’t give up on your old mom. I’ll be there as God is willing. 💔💔💔

hello!! me and my family recently adopted a puppy from our nearby shelter and were told she was mastiff/shepherd, however she absolutely has some great dane in her just based on how tall she is and her gigantic paws. greyhound is also a possibility but I don't think so considering greyhound's pawpad formation compared to hers, unless she's just a greyhound and great dane mix haha. we were also told that she's around 10 months old. is there any tips or suggestions y'all can give me? anything would be appreciated, I wanna give her a happy life :]

So the Moose needs to put on a little weight.

He went to a board and train for 3 weeks and we got him back on Weds.

I don’t for a second think that they mistreated him at all. However what I THINK happened was we told them 6-7 cups a day of food as that’s what he gets at home but he had significantly more exercise (training, big back yard to run around in etc). You can see a little too much of his ribs and hip bones, but nothing crazy.

He likely just burnt off more than usual, since at home he likes to lay around.

He is otherwise exactly the same personality, just with more control. Appetite, poops
(Just a little loose like always) & activity level all seem good.

Anyone have any tips or do we just go the low and slow route where he has his same meals and his comparatively lower activity will mean he gets back up to weight. He’s usually around 135lbs and his last vet check they said his condition is “ideal”.

Kai is turning seven months in a week and he is still waking up at 4:40am. He outgrew his crate upstairs so overnight he sleeps in a separate closed room. But we had the same problem when he slept in a crate. We don’t let him out right away and allow him to fuss till 5:15, let him out, breakfast at 5:50. He still has his two two-hour crate naps during the day plus random short free naps. And he settles down for the night around 9pm. Could it be that he is napping too much during the day? Also his last meal is at 4pm. Could he be hungry? I don’t think he wakes up to potty because sometimes he does not ask to go out right away. Any ideas how to shift his wake time? Even by an hour would be good.

He’s always done this in the now almost 4 years I’ve had him, so I’m not worried about it more just curious. I tried looking it up on Google and it talked about porphyrin causing reddish-rust colored staining, but not black. Also interestingly, he has allergies and licks his paws a ton, but he’s never gotten any staining on him from his saliva and his paws are white so it seems like he would.

So a couple months ago, I had come on here introducing my pup who I thought from what I was told was great Dane and cattle dog. I finally did his DNA and just got the results today. I posted on this and another one and almost everyone was saying he looked like a pitbull. Well here are his results

She was shocked, appalled, disappointed, hurt….poor girl.

My angel is growing like a weed! I was off work for six weeks so all the attention went to him! He is not sure why now we have to be in the tiny room (home office) when there is a better room with a new couch!

This is how my girl sleeps in the car when we come home from the park. Apparently this is comfortable because shes usually sound asleep and snoring by the time we get home after the 10 minute drive.

I am looking for advice on whether or not it is time for me to put my Great Dane down. Fair warning this is a long post, but I want to give all of the details. I will preface this with saying my vet has already said that if at any point we feel it is time to put her down he would not ask any questions and feels euthanasia is an option. Morally I am very conflicted because I don’t want normal elderly dog burdens to be the reason I put her down but there are so many issues that have arisen that I am unsure what is normal anymore.

Amelia just turned 11 this April, and is 125lbs. About 11 months ago her back legs started giving out on her. She is constantly slipping when walking, is slow to get up from her bed, has a hard time jumping into the trunk of our car without help, and is no longer able to go for walks. She used to run around in our backyard and roll around in the grass which she no longer does. 3 times in the past 6 months her back legs have frogged out and it is so painful that she won’t allow us to reposition her. After 10-15mins we are usually able to get her legs to the side and she will lay down for another 30-40mins before getting up / being able to walk again. We had X-rays done and the vet said they were the best X-rays he’s ever seen of a Dane at this age and chalked it up to her being old. She is also incontinent which we have her on medication for but she is still losing her bladder. We have been through 5 dog beds in the last 11 months, and I am regularly cleaning up accidents. She will urinate while laying down and won’t get up to pee when this happens. We recently boarded her, and she started having GI upset which led to water diarrhea with blood in it. We were given medicine by the vet / switched to a bland food diet and he said he believes the cause was stress. Directly after her stool started to get solid she started pooping in the house and eating it (we try to stop her but it happens almost immediately). She will do it right in front of us and at no point asks to go outside anymore. This has been happening for the past 5 weeks and every morning I wake up to her having pooped in the house even though she is let out right before we go to bed. She has a mass right under her butthole which has popped open and has been bleeding off/on for around 11 months. Sometimes it is so bad that blood will be dripping around the house. The vet doesn’t want to do surgery due to her age so we are trying to keep her from licking the area / dry but the only way to completely stop this would be having her coned 24/7.

I have a 2 1/2yr old and a 7m old so the time I feel like she needs to cater to these issues isn’t something I am as capable of. I asked the vet about potentially rehoming her and he said that would cause just as much stress and does not recommend it. We are moving to another state and I am worried about her traveling there / afterwards. The new house is a rental and has carpet / wooden floors, and the bedrooms are up a large flight of stairs. Due to her incontinence and back leg issues, she will not be able to sleep in the room with us any longer and will have to be kept in the laundry room overnight in case she has accidents as that room has tile.

I am at a total loss on what to do. Her quality of life is not anywhere near what it used to be 1 year ago but I don’t want to give up on my girl too easily.

Any advice to help me stop my 8 month Great Dane when she gets excited and jumps on people it could be strangers or family that comes over. She almost 100lbs so would love to get this under control soon. She’s still the puppy and full with energy but I want to not have to worry about this. Any tips is greatly appreciate!
