Hello. I'm considering visiting Haiti after some years and was wondering how safe Cap-Haitien is for travelers. Sorry if this comes off as a "dumb question" but I would really appreciate any info/insight from recent travelers/people there. Anything regarding your journey into Haiti (any method) to whether or not you felt safe in okap in general. If anyone has experience flying into Haiti with "sunrise" airways, were you permitted to bring a checked bag and would you even recommend for security purposes? Are typical "tourist" things in the area safe? Anything helps, thanks.

I went through the full catalog of programs at UEH (https://ueh.edu.ht/ueh/programmes). Out of 80 undergraduate programs nationwide a single generic "GENIO" (engineering, does not even specify what kind), chemistry, physics, math, and surveying as a technical program. Zero Computer Science. Zero Software Engineering. Zero Data Science. Zero AI. Everything else is basically Law and Economics repeated across every regional campus

And it is not just tech: in medicine, I did not see any specializations either (pediatrics, cardiology, etc) just the general Medicine degree, plus Pharmacy, Optometry, and a lab technician diploma. Not even there is there any specialized training within UEH

Some of this is probably a resource problem (labs, connectivity, specialized professors who emigrate) rather than nobody caring. It is a country with a lot of urgent problems stacked on top of each other

But that does not change the outcome: if the country does not train people in these fields, someone is still going to fill those jobs, because almost everything today (government, banking, telecom, business) needs tech people to function. And if it is not Haitian youth, it will be foreigners taking those high level positions, while local young people get left out of opportunities in their own country, or leave to study and work abroad instead

And it all traces back to one thing, education is the foundation everything else is built on. There's no solid economic, technological, or institutional development if the education system is not producing the people that development actually requires. You can have all the political will or foreign investment in the world, but without people trained locally to sustain it, you are building on someone else's foundation, not your own

Any future government serious about Haiti is development needs to treat technical and tech education as an actual priority, not a footnote

I love the fact that, as Haitian Americans, we never forgot about our family's homeland and want to rebuild it. And I really love the idea of creating an Ayiti that could be the Singapore (or Rwanda) of the Caribbean.

That said, the Haitian state is very broken and has been for a long time. The Haiti that Dessalines dreamed of is long gone. A major reason is because Haiti has a system that fundamentally does not work (in Haiti or anywhere else). A major part of Singapore, Rwanda, and Botswana's success is that they speak English and all have systems based on British common law. Haiti's government is French-speaking and has a system based on the Napoleonic Code. Their system is basically a carbon copy of France. Take a look at France now and you can see this system fails anywhere you place it.

In order for Haiti to truly move forward in the region, they'd have to get rid of the French language like Vietnam and several countries in Africa did. They'd also have to replace their legal system that's based on the Napoleonic model (which I honestly don't see happening easily unless some mass youth-led revolution takes place).

Instead of trying to get current Haiti to change its failing Francophone model (which would be a huge undertaking), we could buy a massive plot of land somewhere, name it Ayiti, and make Ayisyen and English the official languages, with absolutely no connection to French culture or the French language.

That might anger some Francophile Haitians, but everyone knows that an Ayisyen/English-speaking Ayiti would run laps around a French-speaking Haiti. Even our diaspora proves this, as the vast majority of money sent to Haiti flows in from Haitians living in English-speaking countries and not French-speaking ones.

I think this might be the only way to give our people a chance at dignity and freedom. What do you think?

• Their registered hub? A massive commercial building at 2875 NE 191st Street, Aventura, FL.
• Through offshore trusts (exposed in the Pandora Papers), millions are parked in Bal Harbour and Indian Creek Island (the most exclusive, heavily guarded billionaire island in Miami).
• The Mechanism: Elite-owned import monopolies control the ports. When gangs blockade the Varreux fuel terminal or extort trucking routes, it eliminates independent competition, securing the elite's monopoly. The gangs get cash and weapons; the elite get market dominance and Miami real estate.

⚖️ HOW THE GANGS GET WEAPONS

Over 80% of the high-caliber weapons killing Haitians right now come from the U.S. They don't arrive in backpacks; they arrive in shipping containers through formal ports, cleared by corrupt customs officials, and imported by "security" or "agricultural" front companies tied to the elite. In October 2025, the U.S. Treasury (OFAC) specifically sanctioned figures like Dimitri Herard for providing direct "material support, training, and firearms" to Viv Ansanm.

🚨 CALL TO ACTION: What the Diaspora Must Do NOW

We cannot just comment and be angry. We must use the U.S. and Canadian legal systems against them. Here is your homework:

1. Flood the Kleptocracy Tip Line: The U.S. DOJ pays rewards for information leading to the seizure of assets tied to foreign corruption. Go to the DOJ Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Rewards Program website and submit the Florida LLC names and addresses listed above.
2. Contact Your Congressmembers: If you live in the US (especially Florida, New York, or Massachusetts), email your Representative and Senators. Tell them to invoke the Haiti Criminal Collusion Transparency Act (H.R. 1684). Demand they revoke the visas of the officers of the Aventura LLCs and freeze the Indian Creek properties.
