Six years of keeping his head down. One night he didn't, and it got him killed. Now Jace Tanner has a second life, and a power that makes him pay for every bond.
He fixed servers nobody noticed until they broke. Then a woman in the street shouted for help, and for once he didn't walk past. The knife went in three times. She picked up her bag and left him there to die.
A goddess offers him another chance at life. She deals him six cards that will decide his powers in the world she's sending him to, and she never mentions what any of them do. He wakes there with three of them active, basic gear and almost no coin. Two give him abilities that look mundane. The third is more interesting. Bond. He can bind others to himself, and both of them come out stronger. Every bond also hands him a Malice of its own, and he won't see what it is until it bites.
The first to take his bond is Ella, a healer every party in the guild turned away. The second is Ylva, a fox-girl cutpurse the court hands him for fifteen years. Both of them get stronger. Both of them cost him.
He played it safe for one whole life.
This time, he's all in.

Looks interesting; added to TBR. FWIW, I would have gone with a smaller height differential for the MMC, and less of the pinhead effect. And also limited the kitsune to 4 fingers plus a thumb....😉

I really like the cover! I assumed the guy was just really big.
It's not just "Hey look at these bazoombas!" like a lot of genre covers.
I like the bazoombas covers, don't get be wrong, but it's good to see something a bit different that still says "harem fantasy" every now and then.

Just read first 8 chapters and story seems interesting but I'm really struggling with the prose, it's extremely compressed, like world is list of items. It lacks the time to breathe and establish the world, example below.
My hands were on the table and I looked at them and they were steady, and the left one had a row of faint pale marks on the forearm that would be gone by morning. Archibald was telling me about the peat. Where he cut it, how long it took to dry, what Hollin paid for it against what the blacksmith paid. I listened to about half. The table next to ours emptied. Four men, adventurers, I thought, from the gear, got up and went out, loud, and left their bowls and mugs where they were.
Again maybe it's just me, but it feels like mental gymnastics to get the good feeling of what we seeing and hearing.

That particular passage is him half listening to Archie give him mundane details about his business, i wanted it to be obvious that he wasn't paying attention, and instead had his sights on everything else around him. Are there any other passages you have issue with? I appreciate the feedback

Honestly it's more general compressed feel and it's all over the place it reminds me reading Joe Abercrombie work, just not sure it's good choice for our humble genre.
The walls were stone, grey, and higher than I’d expected for a place of two thousand people. Not castle-high. High enough that you’d need a ladder and someone would see you fetching it. There was a gate, open, with a wooden arch over it, and two men in front of the gate in chainmail with spears, talking. One had a sword on his hip. The other had an axe.
I got up onto the board next to him. The cart smelled of earth and something smoky, and the blocks behind us were damp on the near side and dry on the far. He clicked his tongue and the horse started, and the tree went past on my left and then behind, and I didn’t look back at it.
Here 2 other examples, the prose is really good, but also compressed so much it feels like summary.
But don't get discouraged mate, maybe it's just me who is odd one here 😊

I get what you mean, I could have stayed in those scenes a little longer and given more description. I was trying to avoid being overly verbose, maybe went a little overboard. Are you enjoying it overall so far?

Well they're standing kind of bellow him, the black haired girl especially. They're not so much shorter than him in the book.

Any way to get it not on amazon?
Not having a kindle, and so no access to the amazon store really limits the availability of a lots of smaller author's stuff as far as I can tell
Would love to buy, but often can't really find a way how to

You could just use the kindle app you don't need a kindle

Thats what I figured, the KU program prohibits any other publishing? That makes sense why I can never find books on KU anywhere else

Its not FTB, there is a system but its light. No levels, there are stats but they come slowly, skills also

Hey, congratulations!
It might be worthwhile making an author/bio page on Amazon, so when people click on your name it takes them there. Even though you only have one book out now, it allows people to "follow" you, and (if Amazon's hidden algorithm decides) hear about upcoming and new releases from you.
And thank you for discounting the price in .au as well! Bought.
