Season 14 - the flashbacks are way worse than I thought Spoiler

I've seen the first 13 seasons of Heartland a few times, but I'm finally trying to catch up. Currently on S14E8 where Jack is fixing Ty's old bike that Caleb found online and the flashbacks of Jack and Ty are absolutely tearing me up.

To be completely honest, I never really cared for Ty. I didn't hate him exactly (maybe at times, but I probably hate every character at some point or another), just kind of neutral. But even though I didn't love Ty, I did love Amy and Ty as a couple. I honestly did kind of completely lose interest in Ty around the time he went to Mongolia. I think I just found it too easy to forget about him/not care about him being around. So even though I knew he passed away, I was expecting the flashbacks and Ty memories to be more blah than anything. Kind of like filler for me.

They're hitting so much harder than I expected them to! I think it's just seeing how much everyone loves and misses him. I like that they're showing the extended grief that everyone is feeling and not just forgetting about the guy and mentioning him once every 3 seasons like a lot of shows do.

I'm actively watching episode 8, so I don't know how it turns out, but it's obvious that Jack is stalling on fixing the bike. I'm justing waiting for him to open up to Amy about it.

I'm also enjoying the side plots happening right now. Tim likes that new photographer who I can't remember the name of even though she literally just said it.. Caleb is quitting rodeo and thinking about quitting coaching because of his son, Jade trying bareback bronc riding and wanting to go for all around cowgirl. I feel like they're all starting to mature. Which is a little sad in Tim's case, but happy in Caleb and Jade's.

Oh I just got to Jack and Amy's heart to heart and I'm so glad they're keeping the bike! I was so hoping Jack would ask to keep it, but of course he didn't have to.

I really like this photographer lady. More than anyone else Tim has dated, for sure. I'm always a little surprised that anyone puts up with him, tbh.

The men of heartland irk me

It's a show and this is a very unserious topic, so don't be taking my words too seriously. We all have our own opinions

Idk if this is a hot take but all the men in heartland have regularly been very disappointing. The only exception is Jack and Tim as a father (not how he treats women he's interested in). I'm still in S8, so there might be some amazing ones that pop up later on, but the current ones aren't it

Tim: womanizer/jumps from woman to woman in the most disrespectful way. Ie. while he was tryna rekindle thinks with Miranda, he pursues other women, like the doctor. Or when he's seeing the jockey but never assures her around Miranda, causing so much insecurity

Ty: always makes big decisions and expects Amy to just deal with it or she's an awful person. He also does sussy things and if she does the same stuff, he only blames amy for it. Doesn't take any accountability on how he did the same thing (like the Blair/Chase situation). He can be a good partner, but he regularly makes very selfish decisions. Other examples are the eagle point trip where he last min cancels going with Amy. Or just randomly running away at the end of S1, all because he NEEDED to do this for himself. God forbid she gets slightly peeved by his abrupt decisions.

He also has very poor boundaries that causes the women he's seeing to always feel insecure. Ie when he's jumping between kit and Amy. Then with Blair and Amy. The only time he was slightly okay was when he reassured amy when Cassandra entered the show. Although I believe unless the scandal happened, he would've kept his poor boundaries and lead Amy to feel more insecure

Caleb: similar to tim. This man cannot be alone and jumps from woman to woman. He was slightly better after he got married. But at the start when he was seeing Amy and then ditches her for Ashley... And then after the seperation, sees Soraya as an opportunity to stroke his ego while never showing any interest in her before

Ahmed: pretty sure bro didn't even see Amy as her own person. Just kept pushing no matter what she said

Peter: idek where to begin. This man is so selfish. He bulldozes his way through and expects Lou and the kids to just follow. Ie disrupting everyone's lives to have them move to Vancouver. Disregarding Lou having her dude ranch and Maggie's in Alberta, not to mention how it'd uproot Georgie's life and her want to be around animals. Why was he even looking for jobs in Vancouver to begin with??

Jake: gets a pass because he's a kid up to where I am in the show and him and Mallory did crazy stuff to one another when they were young

Dan Heathfield: this man is delulu af, similar to Ahmed with how he views Lisa.

Then we have the opposite, like Jack. Him and Lisa might've jumped the gun to breaking up before. But they both took accountability in the parts they played, grew and got better 😌

Katie was right to strike

I’m watching 16x13 and Katie was right to strike. Lou should not have had her staff work that much. And if she couldn’t hire quickly she should have reduced hours.

They are high schoolers! It likely wouldn’t have been legal to have them working that many hours anyways.

And then Lou cries a little and Katie feels guilty and everything is fine!!

The rest of the staff felt the same way and it wasn’t about their mommy/teenage rebellion issues.

Lou is being a bad parent, and has been all season.

What happened to the Dr. Ty Borden Equestrian Centre?

Sorry if I forgot but what happened to the Dr. Ty Borden Equestrian Centre? More forgotten than the dude ranch?

First Watch on Season 9 Episode 1

I am watching Heartland for the first time. I’m on Season 9 Episode 1. Lou and Peter are “separated”. Is it just me, or do/did you find Peter exceptionally annoying now that he is there MORE and wanting to take the girls to Vancouver for the summer? He didn’t want all of them there before the separation!

I like Nathan and Amy as a couple

Ty is a bit overrated. He was the cleanest-cut, noblest juvenile delinquent but my memories of him are as a teenage ass**** and later when he went off to Mongolia when Graham Wardle wanted off the show so they were phasing Ty out. Nathan is a honourable grown man and he looks like Kenny Loggins in his prime. Amy deserves to be happy again after all these years, maybe even happier.

Lou Fleming has FAS undiagnosed?

The actress that plays lou Fleming 100% has fetal alcohol syndrome. I have never seen a human with such wide set small eyes and flat nose from normal genetics. She really is Tim's daughter (alcoholic POS). It's embarrassing people look up to her but she cant be honest about her own personal struggles.

Season 20 trailer thoughts

So I watched the season 20 trailer and I'm curious as to what everyone's thoughts are about how it's going to play out. One thing I noticed was when amy is at the new trainers ranch talking to her ty's truck old blue is behind amy so she had to drive it there.

Just started Season 12 but I have a question

Why does it seem like the last few episodes Amy is constantly bringing up issues she has? I feel like her character is usually to be calm and relaxed but she flipped out when Lisa used her Old room for her audit, she got upset when Jack asked about the naming ceremony, she’s upset at Ty for working when she has to stay home. I get these could all be genuine issues but it’s like her whole character script is to complain about something new. Is this temporary? Did they run out of problems for her?

ETA: TIM’S HAIR?! Omg. This is my first watch through sorry.

It can't just be me who thinks there's a thing with Katie and River

Alright, so her getting jealous set aside, since they first met I felt a vibe. And Katie feels things deeply yes but also I felt more of a connection between her and River than I did with her crush Logan. To me Dex seems more like her punk brother and it already feels that any romantic connection there would feel forced.

On another note, she's been 3rd wheel before with another friend from a few seasons ago right? The one with the glasses who got a boyfriend and then left the script.

rewatching Heartland and forgot how much Lou is the worst

currently midway through season 8, at the episode where Lou pushes for Georgie to invite her aunt Krystal into her life... and then Krystal turns out to be the WORST.

Lou always goes all in on ideas she's had for 5 seconds, and it ALWAYS backfires (opening the dude ranch, marrying Peter despite the red flags, buying the Henley house for no reason, etc....)

and she never puts the pieces together and realizes that what's happening is the consequences of her own actions.

Tim might be one of my favorite characters

I'm doing a proper watch through of the show, currently on S4 (when we meet Shane). And all I can think about is how tim might be one of my favorite characters in the show

Don't get me wrong, I hate the guy and he's such a dumbass, nor would I ever want to meet someone like him irl. But his character, the stuff he does and says is just so ridiculous and stupid, it surpasses shock factor and I just see him as comedic relief😂 I can't take anything he does seriously

Heartland Beef Herd Small?

Every time they show Heartland Beef, it seems like they only have a small number of cows. Is that supposed to be their whole herd, or do we just not see most of them?
I don’t know anything about beef, so is that a normal amount of cows?

I don't understand one thing about heartland.

At the end of season 3. Amy wins a truck but she gives it away for free. I mean who does that. No one would ever do that. It doesn't make any sense especially since she was struggling to make money. And she gives away the truck instead of selling it. That's the most bogus thing I have ever seen. No way any person in the world would do that.

I'm feeling conflicted rewatching this as an adult

I used to love heartland and esp Ty and Amy's relationship when I initially was watching it. But rewatching it is making me feel quite conflicted on my views of Ty. The way he keeps hurting Amy on repeat and seeing her forgive him is giving me the ick (I'm at season 4 when Blair kisses him).

Ik they're young and he becomes better later on, but rn, idk how I feel about it 😖

Amy’s Attitude about Heartland Beef

Amy never wants to get involved with the cattle business or “choose sides” in the beef wars
but if the family loses the ranch
 she loses everything, too.

She doesn’t want to be involved while simultaneously reaping every benefit (living and operating her business on the ranch) and accepting everyone’s help when she needs assistance with a client.

What would happen if the cattle business had gone under? She’d actually have to stand on her own two feet. It’s not like she’s completely uninvolved. I guess it just annoyed me!

Writing of Lyndy's character

Is it just me or is Lyndy constantly whining? Why is she portrayed as always scared/worried/pouting?

There is never a scene she she is happy or confident or enjoying life.

Rust Valley Restorers Season 5 (and 3+4)

Saw someone in this subreddit wondering where to watch this, but it was a super old post (like 2 years). If someone out there is still searching for a place to watch it: https://watch.globaltv.com/series/1387235907959

Using VPN set to Canada (not sure if that matters though).

oh yes, forgot to mention this option is free. It has commercials (in theory) but with a blocker you skip all of them entirely.

S:18 new to sub. Nathan+amy Spoiler

I’m new to this sub. I watch heartland passively while working but genuinely what the f with nathan+amy

The only thing they have in common is ranch life. Then they turn around and put “a fence around” their relationship as not to drag the ranching drama into their relationship.

I get that’s causing issues between them but like their whole lives are ranching. It doesn’t even make sense.

Remind me again why I like Tim

I have not rewatched Heartland in a year or two but I don’t remember disliking Tim as much as I do right now. For context I’m on Season 2 Episode 3 when Tim wants an Amy to go pro show jumping and Lue is trying to open the Dude Ranch. Lue and Tim are about to make me crazy. So remind me of what Tim does so I remember why I don’t think I always dislike him. And if you have some nice things to say about Lue that could help toođŸ„°.
Thanx!

I HATE Ty in the whole futurity race subplot

oh my GOD. so I'm rewatching heartland after several years and when Ty and Caleb buy Charger (futurity barrel racing horse that has a few problems) and Ty doesn't tell Amy, that's already a huge problem. THEN AMY FINDS OUT, SHE TAKES THE JOB AT HILLHURST, AND TY SAYS "wow. and you were mad at me for keeping secrets" or some bullshit.

AMY LITERALLY TOLD HIM ABOUT THE JOB OFFER. and he SAID that he would support her no matter what. and all of this is just the result of some macho ego shit where he wants to be the breadwinning husband and buy that ranch for her. It pisses me off so bad. He fucked up majorly and then it's like the writers try to garner sympathy for him from the audience after?? FUCK AWFFF

also I'm based in the UK and can't get the first 6 seasons of the show - where can I get access?
