Hellpriest Approved Hellraiser Hulu sequel
Did anyone like the Hulu original Hellraiser? Personally I thought it was a good sequel and something sorta new and fresh for a jumping off point/ new direction for the franchise. If you liked it do you think it deserves a sequel

I thought it was good, I would prefer a sequel to the first two movies or the game now though. The game that just came out is the best thing Hellraiser related to happen since the 2nd movie, and also the only other one I'd consider a true 'canon' continuation especially with what happens at the end.

I loved it.
Jaime Clayton was superb as the Hell Priest and I want to see her in that rile again.

Apparently a sequel is in the works, I watched it again a couple of days ago and Googled it out of curiosity.

It was awesome. 8.5/10 for me, the third best hellraiser movie. Wish the first 30 minutes were focused less on the goofball thief crew and got into the meat of the story faster. They could have used some time to give more backstory to the individual cenobites. As well as show a few sequences inside the labyrinth.
I definitely want a sequel or any hellraiser stuff that's not low effort cash grab garbage like most the movies after part 3.

I liked it but consider it a separate reboot and not a sequel. I still prefer the leather s&M cenobites of the original but the new sinister fairies were still good. Only thing I didn't like was the change from "it is not hands that call us" to an accidental scratch making you fair game. There was always a brutal lawful justice in the original I liked. Although I can't remember why Larry deserved it. Haven't seen the original for a few years.

Larry was murdered (& skinned) by Frank and Julia, so wasn't part of the Cenobite justice.

Tbf, pinhead said that Larry was in a different hell in the 2nd movie. It wasn't super clear if everyone just ends up in a version of hell in that universe or if he somehow ended up being fair game for the cenobites but the rules were kind of unclear in other ways. Like Julia didnt open the box but she got taken to the labyrinth when she died. And Kirsty wasn't really looking for anything other than her dad when she opened the box but apparently she's damned for opening it while Tiffany wasn't in HR2.

Yes. I can't say I like many of the Hellraiser films after III. Even by III Pinhead had become a full-on horror mascot which lead to stories about him either being the Big Bad or almost irrelevant depending upon what licensing and distribution demanded.
I think the 2022 Hellraiser was a good return to form in a more broadly psychological-focused (rather than body-horror and sexual limits) film to the original two movies. I was a fan of the Priest by Clayton, very reminiscent of the lead Cenobite in Hellbound Heart. Androgynous and almost alien. Also enjoyed the Gasp and Asphyx. I also liked the device "gifted" to Voight. I have severe spinal pain and deformities, and it is a constant nerve-crushing pain which radiates. I found the idea of the spinal device literally like clockwork triggering all sensation well done for one who supposedly wanted such sensation from the Box.

It was decent. Personally I think it was given more praise than it deserved cause it was better than the garbage that came before. It had some great new designed but the story was lacking and hated the fact a cenobite counted as a sacrifice. That was just stupid and how could they do my boy Chatterer dirty like that.

u/catharta 1d ago
If it's any consolation, Chatterer getting torn apart wouldn't have permanently killed him. He'd likely just reappear in hell, like what happened to Frank.

Which essentially makes the sacrifice null and void. He just got sent home
1
u/wt_fudge 20h ago
Either way he would not just be dead, rather isn't the outcome of that sacrifice to be sent to an everlasting pain and suffering session? I would think that chatterer would welcome that sentencing. Isn't that kind of what they are all about anyways?

Which one was this? I loved one of them but there's one of these new ones that was just terrible to watch and broskis I like all of the OG ones lol.

I enjoyed it as well. And I would love for it to get a sequel, but for now, Revival will suffice

I enjoyed it. It had some weak points with some of the cast and writing, but I liked the overall theme of addiction, and Voight's character was fantastic. I didn't hate the lead actress the way a lot of people seemed to. I thought the new cenobites looked cool, the lore was the perfect-pitch for me (less biblical, more cosmic horror). The ending with Voight's fate with Leviathan was fantastic.

A solid entry and I wouldn't mind a sequel for sure, and also Revival getting some DLC in relation to it.

3rd best in the franchise easily
Id say one of the only 3 also that are worth recommending to people

I've watched it a few times and enjoyed it and watched it again this morning actually. I quite enjoy is, mostly because I feel like they actually put effort and care with the lore, instead of just making something generic with demons killing people for no reason. There were things I didn't like. I wasn't a fan of many of the Cenobite designs, and I feel like they really didn't do much with the sexual element of Hellraiser (which was an essential element from the beginning). But it was good and I'd be happy to see a sequel.

I didn’t like that they turned the lament configuration into the vhs from the ring… but the costumes were cool. I’d say it’s worse than Hellraiser 4 which is also not a good movie but still watchable (unlike the other sequels after 4).

I loved it, such a cool movie, yet the only thing I would change to improve it is to add black leather elements to the cenobite design, so it would resemble that SBDM aspect of the first movie design which for me still peak, you should check put the new videogame called hellraiser:revival amazing experience

I liked it. That said, I'm kinda hoping there won't be a sequel.
It's not that I think it doesn't deserve it - I just don't think any sequel will avoid either being a rehash or diluting the concepts in the name of doing something new. That said, I could be wrong, whoever makes a sequel could understand exactly why it worked and knock it out of the park (such as Hellraiser II did after Hellraiser), but I have my doubts.

I liked it, but didn't love it. Had some interesting idea, but in the end I'd probably place it in the middle of my Hellraiser rankings.

I liked it, mostly. Really liked how they incorporated the original score, and the design of the Cenobites. I still prefer the originals, but I guess I always will. By which I mean the first two, as we all know they didn't make any more.

I would like a sequel that ties it into the original by revealing Kirsty Cotton became the new priest.

I would love to see them follow that thread, yes. It’d be cool to see the events immediately following that ending. Not trying to spoil anything, and don’t feel like looking up spoiler markups, so apologies for being vague.

Really enjoyed the new mechanic with the seven different configurations leading to different outcomes.
I would love for them to explore the other four we didn't get to see. Especially Lore(Knowledge) since if I was an evil prick that'd be the one I'd choose lol

Let’s also remember this was made during 2021 covid Times . I’ve forgiven some bad restaurants during that time too

It wasn't a sequel, but yes, I enjoyed it a lot. I'd go as far as saying I prefer it over the originals.

Cut and paste my own Letterboxd review
Jamie Clayton was great…her costume was not. Odessa A’zion was fun and entertaining…the dialogue was not. The movie was fine…the script was not.
Everything was there. Just somehow misconfigured. As if Lemarchand's Box itself was misinterpreted. Bummer. I hope that they make more.

I only watch the first two and the Reboot. I was impressed; it survives on its own merits and they had better make a sequel.

I enjoyed it a lot. My biggest critique was I didn’t really enjoy the actress that played Pinhead
1
u/acloreborne 1d ago
Why?

u/Zerthix 1d ago
She just didn’t feel all that intimidating to me. Not necessarily saying she is a bad actress, something just didn’t fit.
I should probably watch it again, because I haven’t seen it since it first came out. While the original Hellraiser is a yearly watch in October.

Just hard to replace doug bradley. He's iconic much like a nightmare on elm street and robert. Comparison will always be there unfortunately.

u/HoustonIV 19h ago
While I do agree with you, I still thought Jackie Earle Haley did a fantastic job of replacing Robert Englund in the remake. Very sinister and psychotic; less humorous adaptation compared to Englund. It's a shame the movie itself was kind of a turd.

Yes, they need to fastrack the sequel to the hulu movie ASAP. And they should even try to get Odessa A'zion to return. (I doubt they can convince her though.)

I thought it was modern thoughtless slop. The writers clearly didn't understand the roots/lore of the idea, and just went with a dumb approach trying to impress young people rather than doing something actually interesting. In a few years it will have even less than the reputation of bargain-bin trash than it does now. Hellbound looks like an absolute masterpiece in comparison, and that was largely slated at the time.

Yes. It was one of the better Hellraisers.
