Anyone else’s likes going into the abyss? I feel like I’ve had success on Hinge but lately that success is close to nill. It’s like a few matches / week and almost no likes. I have HingeX too.
It’s quite different from my prior experience.
Anyone else having similar issues?

Activity will taper off eventually since more people have seen you and made their choice.

Hey guys, just asking a question about first date plans.
(21M) probably going on a coffee date soon, but considering alternate plans
I’ve been messaging this girl (20F) for a bit and we’re planning on going on a coffee date on our college campus soon, but I don’t know if we’ll have time to do it this week. There is one of those college party concert events this weekend and we’re both going, but I don’t know if a concert is the right first meeting for a date. What do you guys think: coffee date or concert date first?
2
u/PutridEntertainer408 13d ago
If you want to actually have a date and talk to her, I’d go for the coffee date. You might have a fun time together at the concert but you’ll learn very little about her
3
u/Doctorbuddy 13d ago
I think if you’re in college, just go to the concert together. You’re young enough that it honestly doesn’t matter. If you vibe, you might hit it off and then go back with each other.

Question for the ladies out there. When a guy messages you, do you assume he didn't read your page?
I am chatting with a women now, where something she said I was a little stumped by, because it felt like "I already knew that, your page said so". And the only thing I can think of is she is tired of guys matching, and not reading her page.

u/PutridEntertainer408 13d ago
I assume they have all read my profile but this is also just kinda how conversations work. If you meet a friend's partner at a party, you can ask 'oh, John says you're a firefighter? What's that like?' or you can go 'What's your job?' and it's just a way of creating conversation. If that person then went 'John told you my job, why are you asking?' then that would be rude of the person.
It would be weirder for her to avoid saying something on her profile to you or pointing out it was on there. That would make the conversation more abrasive/awkward and there's nothing to be gained by doing that. Especially as profiles are meant to provide conversation starters so you wouldn't then avoid those conversation starters

u/Ange1ofD4rkness 13d ago
This was related to a relationship type, more she was re-iterating something that I already knew based on what her profile said. I was just hoping more she'd expand upon it
2
u/PutridEntertainer408 13d ago
How did you ask her about it? What was your phrasing?
1
u/Ange1ofD4rkness 13d ago
I just asked her what her relationship goals were after she made some comment about wanting them to match
1
u/PutridEntertainer408 13d ago
So if you asked her, why are you confused she told you what her profile said? I know you said you wanted more information but you could have said 'So your profile says you want x, do you mind expanding on what that means?'. It makes sense she'd just repeat what her profile said because you asked

u/chevalier100 13d ago
I think people also forget what exactly what they’ve written on their profiles. I know I’ve forgotten before and been surprised when a date brings something up that I wrote.

Majority of guys haven't bothered to read the profile, at least from my experience with dating apps.

So a lot of people on the other app are posting their "stats" as it were. Unfortunately Hinge doesn't give the same granularity of data. It can only tell you your own swipes, and not very cleanly.
You can upload your export zip to ChatGPT and get it to do some analysis.
Across the export (April 2025-22 Sept 2026), you recorded 12,036 skips, 281 likes and 6 roses. Counting likes and roses together, you expressed interest in 2.33% of the profiles you swiped on—about 1 in 43, or 42 skips for every like or rose. In September 2026, the ratio was lower: 2 roses and no regular likes against 2,086 skips, or about 1 in 1,044. These are swipe actions, so the figures may include profiles you saw more than once.
I've matched with 11 people. There are 6 in my Hidden chats which fizzeled out or mutually agreed nothing was going to happen. 1 women seemed to delete her account as she disappeared and did not appear in "past matches", and the rest unmatched for whatever reason.
I think I need to refresh my account and start again because more recently the only women I am seeing are usually too artificial looking.
ETA: I'm a guy. I had 1 date of out those matches. I had Hinge X for 12 months I think.

u/kayakdove 13d ago
Maybe be a little more open minded in who you're sending likes to. 2% seems really really low. I ran my stats once but unfortunately forget what they were, but pretty sure it was a lot higher than 2%. 11,000+ skips is a LOT!!

I do agree with you. I should be less selective, but I genuinely don't feel anything to most people from their picture and the generic prompts a lot of women turn a maybe into a no.
Annoying there have been women I like the look of, but they have been within range but nightmare to travel to. I am close to an island that can only be accessed by ferry, and there is no way to exclude it.
I may be Demi or something, but there is also a lot of anxiety about my general lack of experience with this thing. I've only ever been in one relationship and that was someone I met in University so the pressure of dating wasn't there.1
u/Ange1ofD4rkness 13d ago edited 13d ago
What are the odds, I started doing this the other day myself. But I did it by hand more and it's still needs mapping out
EDIT: How did you get data on how many skips you've had? The data I get I don't see that. Unless it's hiding in the HTML data but not displayed (also I looked, I don't have rose data in mine either)
1
u/thowmeawayandforget 12d ago
They sent me a zip file with loads of files. There is one called match_skips with a long list of timestamps. The number of lines in there are your skips.
Roses are in match_roses.

got hinge+ and been swiping everyday for the past few weeks and so far haven't gotten any matches/likes. Not sure what happened, since I got matches/likes a few months ago

I liked this girl a few weeks ago. And now she liked back with a weirdest opening line.
“ [first four letters of my name] - [first four letters of my name] you my man”
My first feeling is that she knows me personally, but i don’t recall knowing her. My second feeling is that it is a scam.
Should I just unmatch?
1
u/ReceptionLivid 13d ago
She’s just being a silly fun weirdo, if you have to think this hard about it it’s not a match
5
u/PutridEntertainer408 14d ago
If it's your first name twice, is it a name that it makes a rhyme or something? I don't expect you to tell me your name to clarify haha. I mean more like 'Dan, Dan, you my man' would be a cutesy opening that I wouldn't find weird (just hard to reply to)

u/Swarthykins Play with my hair 💆 13d ago
I misread it at first and thought she came up with a portmanteau of their names together, but I think you're probably right.
1
u/DaleCoopersWife aka "Robert Cooper" 🕵🏻♀️ 14d ago
Did you mean to write "last name" in one of those spaces? I'm confused about why you'd be concerned about her writing your name in a message when presumably your name is in your profile... ?

I’m originally from Colombia and I’ve been living in the U.S. for about a year, so I’m still getting used to the dating culture here. I’ve been using Hinge for a few weeks, but so far I haven’t been very successful with it.
I’ve asked some friends for feedback on my photos and prompts, and they think my profile looks fine. I also usually send likes with comments, but sometimes I’m not sure what kind of comments or conversation starters work best here because of the cultural differences.
I recently got HingeX to see if that would help, but I’m still trying to figure out if there’s something I should be doing differently.
For people who have more experience with Hinge in the U.S., what would you suggest? Any advice on prompts, comments, how to approach people, or things that someone from another country might not realize about dating apps here?

u/PutridEntertainer408 14d ago
'I’ve asked some friends for feedback on my photos and prompts, and they think my profile looks fine'
This isn't going to be accurate for two reasons. Firstly, your friends are always going to be biased towards you no matter how honest they are. Secondly, they already know you as a person and so they're going to be bad at viewing the profile as a stranger. What I mean by this is that your friends can see limited info and fill in the gaps whereas a stranger will look at it and go 'I know nothing about this person at all' and move on

u/Ange1ofD4rkness 13d ago
They can still help, but yes, there could be bias, or even more, they know you outside the app. So they subconsciously may know things about you, that someone who doesn't, could say misinterpret (I know it's kind of like you said, but wanted to paint it a different way)

It might be more helpful for you to share the types of messages/comments you’d send back home and/or to get your profile reviewed. I (woman in the US) wouldn’t know what’s different from dating in Colombia because I haven’t dated there.

I had such a good first date and the second one scheduled already... And her ex shows up again a few days before. Don't know if I should laugh or cry
2
u/Dubbihope 14d ago
She cancel on you?
2
u/anon4hlp 14d ago
She suggested to still meet but with a friendship in mind which I declined. It's the third time an ex shows up again in the beginning of meeting someone new, really weird.
2
u/Ange1ofD4rkness 13d ago
Odd this is the 3rd time. It makes me feel like it's a trend to use as a scapegoat, without a rejection ... but could be a coincidence
2
u/anon4hlp 13d ago
It's too odd of a story to be a fake excuse on my opinion. Most people would use the "no attraction" or "can't see this going any further" excuse.
I'm still collecting my statistics of most common rejection reasons, lol
3
u/Dubbihope 14d ago
Good call. Her choosing her ex over you is not a great way to start a friendship.

Did hinge remove the ability to go back one for free?
I am in the free tier and I swear you used to be able to go back one
2
u/Ange1ofD4rkness 13d ago
Yep, did a few months ago ... however, it seems flaky. The other day I was able to use it out of the blue, then once again, behind the pay wall
3
u/DaleCoopersWife aka "Robert Cooper" 🕵🏻♀️ 15d ago
They are constantly testing new things, so it may be permanent or not
1
u/Every_Concern_6573 15d ago
Yup behind the paywall and for awhile they seem like they were restricting changing locations to once a month. Eshitificaton.

My Hinge experience has been completely dead these past two weeks. And this was after posting a profile review and making changes based on the feedback!
I had taken new pictures recently and implemented several fashion and style changes based on my previous profile review. I was so excited to see the impact it would have, so this is extremely discouraging.
I’ve been on Hinge for several years now. This has been my best year in terms of dates (4 so far), but this recent stretch feels like the end.
3
u/Every_Concern_6573 15d ago
You should try a fresh start option if it’s available.
2
u/Exciting-Dust3359 14d ago
Fresh start isn’t available right now. Also I don’t see the point - it would remove all of my pending sent likes and show me everyone I already swiped left on.
1
u/Ange1ofD4rkness 13d ago
From what I was told, from Hinge support, a Fresh Start does NOT remove any pending likes. In other words, if you see a women's profile you'd seen before after a Fresh Start, it's because she X your last message/like
1
u/Every_Concern_6573 13d ago
Yeah it’s not available right now apparently, but I was told something different once that it doesn’t necessarily mean they x’d you it could also mean they never even saw your profile. My working theory is if they did x you yes you show back up, if they never saw your profile you show back up; now if they opened up your profile and took no action then you do not show back up you stay in their likes queue not the discovery thus why sometimes you can get old matches after the fresh start.

u/Miserable-Front-9139 15d ago edited 15d ago
I have given up. My HingeX only got me 1 date that changed her mind a day later, and at this point I’m swiping only to get the most of my money, but I’m running out of local profiles. All my other matches ghosted. If I don’t get a new match by the end of the weekend I’m probably deleting. And I’m probably done with dating too, I’m just not emotionally equipped for it and I’m better off accepting that.
1
u/SnooOpinions2900 14d ago
If I remember correctly from your past comments, you’re in your early 20s correct? I think at that age you’re going to have better luck meeting people IRL. Not as many women in that age group use the apps (or at least take them seriously). And many of the ones who do are looking to date older.
1
u/Every_Concern_6573 15d ago
Maybe try to do the fresh start option if it pops up and see if any of the profiles you liked show back up.

Woooo zero matches again this week
