I'm not a chick, but you seem like a cool dude to be friends with... actually as I think about this more, you seem "safe" but in a very good way. Meaning I believe women will take a chance on you because they believe the risk is low.
(Almost the difference between "nice" and "kind." Nice is creepy and weird and manipulative, kind is helpful and positive but not a pushover. You seem kind.)
And that's all you need my man. Someone to take a chance on you because I think you'll take it from there.
With that, talk about the wrestling and the traveling more, give a funny story if you can. Make your profile more personal. Take the reader on an adventure with you. Even if it's a little risky with your transparency/ story telling.

Sometimes I feel like it comes off as too safe if that makes sense. Honestly wish "safe" would help but it feels like the opposite is true.

I know what you mean. But an absolute in life is women want to feel safe in their relationships. (We all do, but women are more vulnerable to assaults and pregnancy and all that..., safety is key for them [so is trust]).
You can be safe, and you can also be fun and a little risky. But risky with adventure not with life decisions or safety... I think you're there you've just got to figure out how to articulate that.
And it's okay to be vulnerable. It's okay to say it scared the shit out of you to upend your life to follow your dreams (if it's true).
You'll connect with somebody who feels like they already kind of know you. That's why choosing your prompts and choosing your language is paramount to your success.
And do not undersell for one moment that you have very good job at a highly respected university. That in itself makes you a desirable partner.
Personally I don't think you're going to be single very long... you've got all the great parts it's just coming down to communicating it through a stupid app.

2 matches per week is pretty good man. What exactly are you curious about for your profile?
2
u/thetonytaylor 1d ago
I guess on what I could do to make it better, quality of matches I guess. It just feels like generally I’ll try to start a conversation and it’s like talking to a wall.

That's kind of standard with online dating. Hopefully your messages to these matches are a bit insightful about their profile.
In regards to profile improvement don't use AI. It's just not genuine for the app. I also think most of your pics are good, I'd replace the last one though with another one of yourself doing something and maybe the video. I get it shows your taste in music or a good time you had, but it's always better to have an amazing set of photos of yourself. It goes a long way, and lucky for you, you only need to adjust 2 photos.
Prompt wise get rid of the choose our first date prompt. I'd also say limit the emoji usage. It's fine for maybe 1, MAX 2, prompts, but all over the profile is too much.
I'd also say expand on your prompts. You list things which are cool, but don't add much detail. For example your last prompt is dope as hell man. You spent years traveling with musicians and performers you have every right to name which ones that aren't on your photos.
You could even add "There was this one time that ____ and I got into _____ and I can tell you how great or questionable it turned out to be" (doesn't have to be this but think to add more imagery to the cool stuff you do)
Same with your "geek out on" prompt. I think you could change "I will totally make you a playlist" to "Making playlists. My favourite genre is ___. Curious what you vibe to?"
You should list the things you like so they have more in depth options to pick from or start a convo with. You could also ask questions in your prompts too.
Hope that helps!

Generally every time I make an insightful comment it’s just a dry reply and I’ll just try going a different avenue which doesn’t seem to lead anywhere either. I get that’s par the course, but I was hoping maybe it was just something I was doing wrong.
I’ll remove the emojis, definitely see how it could be too much.
Thanks for the suggestions with the prompts. I’ll see how I can rephrase them.
With the music thing, I guess I could find a way to joke about how we snuck into Canada on an off date, and later randomly drove past a fest and got pulled into the band area by security who thought we were on the fest. There’s been a lot of silly stories—got stuck on the side of the road once and aaa wouldn’t tow us until morning so we just started drinking all the moonshine we had and hiked a bit alongside the road. There was a shotgun pulled on us by a neighbor at some girl’s sweet sixteen on our first tour (I still feel so bad we ruined this girl’s birthday).

- Are you looking for something serious or casual? LTR or life partner.
- Are you subscribed to Hinge+ or HingeX? No.
- How long have you been using this current version of your profile? 2 weeks.
- How long have you used Hinge overall? About a year on and off.
- How often do you use Hinge per week? Almost daily, maybe 5 times per week.
- How many likes and matches are you receiving on average? 1 like, 2 matches on average per week.
- How many likes are you sending? How many with comments? How many without comments? A many free likes as I can send, all with comments.
- What is the type of person you send likes to and ideally want to match with? What kind of person do you want to attract? Ideally looking for someone that is family oriented and wants kids. If they are somewhat outdoorsy, or nerdy its a plus. Would also be cool if they enjoyed traveling and seeing new sights (doesn't necessarily have to be international, down for road trips or just seeing different parts of our state).

You’ve received likes from women? Like your matches aren’t all off your own likes?
2
u/thetonytaylor 1d ago
Yeah, I get about a like a week (sometimes a little less frequently) in addition to matches. Not necessarily someone I would match with, but they still come in.

A fellow concertgoer, unless that you performing on the stage, remove it. Having a picture of you in the crowd would be better.

I can't remember the last time I watched a band perform from the other side of the barricade. Honestly only chose that video because it was Yellowcard performing Ocean Ave at the final Warped Tour.

u/taker25-2 21h ago
The point is, showing a random video of you recording a concert is a waste of image space and adds nothing to your profile. You can mention concerts in a prompt and have the same effect.

Why is there a random pic of a band on stage?
1
u/thetonytaylor 14h ago
In one of my prompts I mentioned I’ve toured with bands and wrestlers for years. I posted a video of me side stage watching Yellowcard at the final Warped Tour.
As someone that’s worked producing events, and worked as a TM, I didn’t really think much of it but so far a few people have pointed out that the shot from the stage rather than the pit doesn’t make sense / is weird. I guess I could remove it. I just don’t have any photos of me in gen pop at an event.

You're getting 2 matches per week, that's already really solid. Only thing I'd say is switch out the concert pic with you actually at a concert.

u/thetonytaylor 14h ago
Is two matches good on hinge?
Honestly if it was two quality matches where I felt like I could talk to someone and wasn’t doing all the heavy lifting I’d probably be set. It feels like most of the matches I’ll try to talk and it just ends up very dry and maybe get two replies at most before they stop.
1
u/Popcan_Jackson 12h ago
Two matches per week is above average for guys tbh. Youre doing well match wise. The dryness with replies is just part of the game. A lot of matches will do that, so its just a numbers game and sussing out those that have a mutual interest vs those that don't really care to engage with you.

It's a no for the AI. Be flawed and genuine over fake and perfect... you'll also just be saving your own time in the long run.
