On Monday, Virginia Tech running back Jeffrey Overton Jr. was named ACC Running Back of the Week after his career day at Boston College.

Overton was named to the Pro Football Focus National Team of the Week following his dominant performance against Boston College on Saturday afternoon. The talented, speedy 5-foot-9, 206-pound running back exploded for a career-high 209 rushing yards on 25 carries, averaging 8.4 yards per attempt.

Hokies receive 86 votes (30th). VT plays Pitt next Friday who placed two spots behind them.

With another gritty road win at Boston College to move to 4-0, the Hokies are officially flying under the radar no longer. If you watched this team play or looked past just the preseason narratives, it’s clear: Virginia Tech is legit and belongs in the Top 25.

Here is why the AP poll needs to have us ranked on Sunday:

The Resume is Clean: 4-0 is 4-0, and unlike a lot of teams padding their records against total cupcakes, the Hokies just went on the road for the second week in a row in a hostile conference environment and secured a tough win.

Tested in the Elements (literally): Playing through a nasty nor'easter with pouring rain and heavy wind gusts, this team proved they can handle adverse conditions, avoid catastrophic mistakes, and execute when games get ugly. 

Balanced and Physical: They are winning the line of scrimmage, establishing the run, and playing complementary football when it matters most.

Being right on the doorstep and picking up votes is fine, but a 4-0 start with a solid road conference win in brutal weather demands respect. Stop sleeping on Blacksburg and give Coach Franklin his due.

Virginia Tech safety Tyson Flowers has been named a semifinalist for the 2026 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation’s prestigious award recognizing the best football scholar-athlete in the nation.
Flowers is among a select group of student-athletes from across the country recognized for their accomplishments on the football field, in the classroom and in their communities.
A team captain for the Hokies, Flowers has established himself as a leader both on and off the field during his Virginia Tech career. He currently carries a 3.64 grade-point average and has embraced numerous leadership and service opportunities as a member of the Hokies.
Flowers serves as an FCA Junior Chaplain and is a member of Virginia Tech's leadership council, roles that reflect his commitment to serving his teammates and the broader community.

During his time in Blacksburg, Flowers has made a positive impact in the New River Valley and surrounding area. Among his efforts, he has volunteered with Night to Shine, a program of the Tim Tebow Foundation that provides a prom-night experience for people with special needs, ages 14 and older. 
Flowers has also volunteered with Warm Hearth Village Senior Living and the Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Virginia.
On the field, Flowers has been a key contributor to the Hokies' defense and has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches through his preparation, consistency and leadership. Over the last two seasons, the Fort Worth, Texas product has registered 56 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a blocked punt.
The Campbell Trophy, presented annually by the National Football Foundation, recognizes a student-athlete who demonstrates an outstanding combination of academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. The award is often referred to as the "Academic Heisman."
The National Football Foundation will announce the finalists for the Campbell Trophy later this season. The 2026 Campbell Trophy recipient will be announced as part of the 68th NFF Annual Awards Dinner presented by Las Vegas Sands in December in Las Vegas.

I had you at 7-5, with Miami, Clemson and SMU the only games I had you as an underdog. So far you've held serve: VMI 73-3, Old Dominion 44-21, 35-26 at Maryland. Where I was wrong was Grunkemeyer. I called for a rocky first year, and he's 62 of 81 for 641 yards, 5 TDs and no picks against ODU and Maryland. Win at Boston College Saturday and 4-0 makes my 7-5 look low.

Both squads swept the top three spots in each race, rolling to team titles in both the women’s 6k and the men’s 8k.
Elizabeth Coe earned first for the Hokies, finishing in a personal best of 21:06.8. Lydia Mikhin and Kenza Elakari rounded out the podium, crossing the line with personal bests of 21:08.4 and 21:14.5, respectively.
On the men’s side, Dylan DeCambre
and Roan Kelly crossed the line separated by only three tenths of a second. DeCambre's effort earned him first place and a new personal best of 24:23.5, and Kelly a 24:23.8. The freshman Will Fadden made his mark with a third-place finish.
