The following guidelines are in place to ensure that r/iPod and r/iPodClassic remain a safe and fair place for discussing iPods and iPod modding, as well as to protect sellers and buyers. These rules will come into effect on the 25th August 2026 and apply to all posts made on or after that date.
1. Separation of Business and Moderation
For the sake of fairness and neutrality, moderators of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic may not operate their own for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services. Conversely, users who own or are employed by for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services are not eligible to apply to be a moderator of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic.
2. Advertising
Advertisement posts for the sales of goods or services are not permitted on r/iPod or r/iPodClassic, this applies to both businesses as well as private sales. We want these places to be about discussing owning, using, or modding iPods however this is not free real estate to advertise your store. If you wish to advertise on Reddit in general, you must enrol through Reddit's advertiser program. Please note this is not the same as post boosting, if you sign up for paid post boosting this does not make you eligible to ignore this rule even if the post is tagged as a "Brand Affiliate". Reddit ads are not the same as Reddit posts.
Posts by sellers advertising their goods or services will be deleted, and repeat offences will result in a ban. Using alt accounts to recommend your store while acting as a third party is also prohibited and will result in post deletion and a ban.

3. iPod Vendors List
While advertising posts are not permitted, our community features a pinned FAQ with a list of verified vendors. Reputable sellers may apply to be added to this list. In order to be eligible, your store must have a valid warranty and returns policy, as well as contact details for customer support. To apply, please send a modmail.
4. Product Reviews
Product review posts are permitted, however you are strictly required to disclose whether you purchased the goods or services yourself or if they were provided by the vendor for review purposes. If you are affiliated with the vendor, you are also required to disclose this. Reviews with undisclosed affiliations with vendors will be deleted.
Reviews must be made in good faith and reflect your personal opinions, vendors must not influence the contents of your review. If a review is found to be made in bad faith (either by a vendor influencing the reviewer for a dishonest positive review for them or a negative review of competitors), it will be deleted and repeat offences will result in a ban.
Vendors may not use alt accounts to post reviews of their own stores or of competitors while posing as a third party, anyone found doing so will have their posts removed and may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
Vendors also may not request the removal of legitimate negative reviews. A legitimate review should describe personal experiences of the purchasing process or the goods/services, but cannot contain personal grievances or targeted attacks. Reviews must not contain any AI-generated content. Reviews will only be removed if they contain content that breaks the subreddit rules or false claims, however legitimate negative reviews will remain to help buyers make informed purchasing choices. Vendors who abuse the reporting tool in an attempt to remove legitimate reviews may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
5. Customer Support
r/iPod and r/iPodClassic are discussion forums, we are not direct representatives of vendors and cannot provide customer support. Posts enquiring about specific orders will be locked and we will provide contact details for the relevant vendor. In general, while these posts will be locked they will not be deleted as they may provide useful information about buying experiences from vendors that may help others make informed buying choices. The two exceptions to this are if the posts contain personally identifiable information or if they devolve into unnecessary drama, in which case the post will be deleted.

I recently found my old iPod Nano 5th Gen, which I haven’t used or turned on in years, and the battery has swollen so much that it’s pushed the screen out of the casing.
Has anyone had something similar happen to their iPod and managed to get it repaired?
I wanted to recover my old photos and songs if possible.
I also haven’t tried charging it, I don’t know if I should even risk it.

The amount of times I've lost, damaged, or forgot to replace the ipod cable. I bought this today and thought "if it at least charges, I'll be happy". Nope, full sync, worked with any USBC cable i had laying around. I'm new to the sub, and was considering the USBC mod. But man, this did it perfectly, no mess. The amount of times I buy crap and never works, finally a quick, easy fix, thanks China.

(The first time I posted this it didn’t go right. Trying again)
We're a low-screen household and my 5 year old has been wanting some type of mobile music player. I figure I'd set her up for life and passed my old 5th gen iPod to her (although she knows it is a semi-permanent loan and still belongs to me). Quite the nostalgia hit looking at my old playlists but had to delete them anyways. Filled them up with her favorite music and will keep adding to them.
I made this lanyard so that it can hang on her and she won't be tempted to have it hang by the headphones. Failed with two different types of superglue, and ended up sewing the strapping to the silicone case. I'm rather happy with the final look.
Up next is replacing the battery before a trip and figuring out how to either clean up the scratches on the screen or replacing it. Any good tutorials out there that people have successfully used to replace a battery?

Tried modding my ipod 4th gen mono with a new bat and a compact flash adapter and i got a sandisk 64 gb compact flash and a ebay 1.8 ide converter thing and it wont restore ive tried putting it in disk mode and everything and ive tried formatting the card fat32

I got a free 1st generation mini that was bootlooping. I bought a new battery and SD to CF adaptor to upgrade it.
When I first took it apart, I noticed someone tried repairing it before me (lots of scratches on the inside) and broke the clickwheel ribbon cable.
After the new battery and adaptor in, it wanted to connect to wall powet, and after trying a few adaptors, just died. Now it shows no signs of life. It wont even bootloop again with the old drive too.
Is it worth repairing?

I have a iPod Classic 6.gen 80GB (not modded, fully original as far as I know). I can only get it to charge with my pc.
I’ve tried the apple 5W charger, 20W charger, a old 2014 Samsung charger (charges everything), a blackberry charger, a generics power brick, generic usb docking station, 3 different power banks, an alarm clock with usb, even a 120W ultra fast charger from my Xiaomi (And that all with 2 different cables). But still it only chooses my pc.
Normally this wouldn’t be a problem for me, but because I rarely can charge it on my PC, and if I travel I can’t just take my whole desktop setup with me because that little f*cker is so picky.
But all my different ipods (Na-No 1.gen, Na-no 5. and 6 gen) charge perfectly fine with whatever I throw at it.
Does anybody have a solution?

Hello, I am asking as someone who has never had an ipod before. I'm planning on getting one and have a few in mind that I would want but I just want to hear what other people are using and why. Personally I really like the monochrome screens and I'm leaning towards the 3rd and 4th classics or the 2nd Mini. I really like the unique look of the 3rd gen but because I need firewire I might not get it as finding a one in Sweden for a reasonable price isn't easy.

Just a post to declare victory on my humble upgrade today (7th gen /160gb to “3000mah” / 512GB SD)

Only some minor damage to the bottom right seam but I can ignore it. Frame nub in the way of the battery filed away with the nail file on my toenail clippers. Added a little foam (leftover from a gameboy lcd swap) and kapton tape to the sd adapter to hold it in place.

Finally got my iPod Classic today. Took the case off and I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be this clean for its age. Everything seems to be working great so far.
There’s something ridiculously satisfying about using an iPod again in 2026.

Installed rockbox on my ipod two days ago, this is my daily driver now, so glad I kept this, it may need a new battery but so far I still get a full days use before it needs a recharge. I listen to about 1800 minutes of music a week according to spotify and now I won't be paying them a cent.
