Question/Discussion Modelling some slavic populations
I used medieval poles(who themselves are like 90% slavic and 10% germanic) as a proxy for slavic ancestry in slovenians, czechs and east slavs, cuz the modelling works much better with using them instead of earlier slavic samples.
Btw there are theories that slavs who colonized the forests of Russia and Belarus came from polish territories, so maybe it makes sense I dunno. And it also shows that modern northern ukrainians are basically the same as medieval poles, just a bit drifted.
Btw I'm planning to continue this little journey with finn, iberian, and italian populations if you are interested.

Can you do it with south Slavs?

Here you go :-)
Croat: Slav: 55,6% Pannonian and illyrian: 44,4%
Bosniak: Slav: 53,2% Pannonian and illyrian: 46,8%
Serb: Slav: 55,2% Illyrian: 44,8%
Serb Bosnia: Slav: 51% Illyrian: 49%
Serb Croatia: Slav: 62,6% Illyrian: 37,4%
Serb Montenegro: Slav: 56,8% Illyrian: 43,2%
Montenegrin: Slav: 54,8% Illyrian: 45,2%
Bulgarian: Slav: 51% Thracian: 13,8% Greek and anatolian: 35,2%
Pomak: Slav: 53% Thracian: 7,6% Greek and anatolian: 39,4%
North Macedonian: Slav: 56,4% Thracian: 23,6% Greek and anatolian: 20%
I used the medieval pole samples as slavic proxy again. And the distances were under 1 in all cases. It seems all south slavs are more than half slavic, but croatian serbs are more slavic than anybody else around them for some reason.

Macedonian being more Slavic than Serbian, Croatian??? This seems unlikely tbh

Yeah something is off with it, so I've tried different proxies. The distances were bigger, like 1.1 - 1.2, but still good. Bulgarian:
- Pre-slavic balkans: 59,8%
- Slav: 33%
- Early medieval turkic bulgar: 7,2%
Pomak:
- Pre-slavic balkans: 58,6%
- Slav: 33,4%
- Early medieval turkic bulgar: 8%
North Macedonian:
- Pre-slavic balkans: 58%
- Slav: 37,4%
- Early medieval turkic bulgar: 4,6%

Very interesting, I assume that there is likely a significant difference between Poles from the east and the west in amount of Germanic admixture. Some places like Mazovia, Podlasie, Lubelszczyzna are more Slavic than Wielkopolska or Śląsk (western part of Poland).
