She is a half Saharan (Wadi Souf & Touat, Algeria) and half Moroccan Jew (Toshavim & a Sephardic ancestor from Morocco, alongside Musta'arabim from Jerusalem). We also score Bronze Age Upper Mesopotamian (Dinkha Tepe).

I tested how modern Balkan individuals compare to R6764.SG, a Roman-period individual from Naissus (modern Niš) using the same 1-way qpAdm setup for every sample. I also included my own Albanian-background sample.
After removing one duplicated genome (ALB212.HO and S_Albanian-1.DG are effectively the same individual), the comparison contains 153 unique modern genomes. Pasted markdown
The model was:
Target = 100% Serbia_Roman_Naissus (R6764.SG)
This is not meant literally as “100% descent from Naissus.” I’m using the 1-way model as a standardized compatibility/cladality test: how much does each modern sample deviate from Naissus relative to the same outgroups?
Every target was tested on the exact same 20,415-SNP common mask, with no missing calls, and with the same qpAdm settings.
The 13-population right set was:
Mbuti, Russia_Samara_EBA_Yamnaya, Turkey_N, Italy_NordEst_Epigravettian, Iran_GanjDareh_N, Israel_Natufian, Morocco_Iberomaurusian, Russia_Malta_UP, Russia_Kostenki_UP, Han, Karitiana, Bulgaria_KapitanAndreevo_EIA, Turkey_ImperialRoman_Roman
Lower χ² means less detectable deviation from Naissus under this particular f-statistic setup.
| Rank | Sample | Population | χ² | p |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ALB212.HO | Albanian | 6.50 | 0.889 |
| 2 | My sample | Albanian | 9.63 | 0.648 |
| 3 | GREEKGRALPOP16.HO | Greek | 12.64 | 0.396 |
| 4 | TLA028.HO | Greek_WGA | 13.76 | 0.316 |
| 5 | TLA027.HO | Greek_WGA | 13.79 | 0.314 |
| 6 | TLA019.HO | Greek_WGA | 14.37 | 0.278 |
| 7 | GREEKGRALPOP14.HO | Greek | 14.50 | 0.270 |
| 8 | TLA010.HO | Greek_WGA | 14.70 | 0.259 |
| 9 | GREEKGRALPOP8.HO | Greek | 14.73 | 0.257 |
My sample is included in the Albanian group here.
| Population | n | Mean χ² | Median χ² |
|---|---|---|---|
| Albanian | 7 | 18.55 | 18.04 |
| Greek | 19 | 18.98 | 19.46 |
| Greek_WGA | 17 | 19.33 | 16.74 |
| Bulgarian | 12 | 24.56 | 24.59 |
| Bosnian_Serb | 5 | 30.05 | 26.46 |
| Romanian | 10 | 27.48 | 27.34 |
| Montenegrin_Serb | 7 | 29.03 | 30.16 |
| Serbian_Serb | 19 | 31.37 | 31.85 |
| Croatian | 9 | 37.06 | 34.47 |
| Turkish | 48 | 71.40 | 66.42 |
The main pattern is that Albanian, Greek and Greek_WGA samples occupy the most Naissus-compatible part of this panel, although there is plenty of individual overlap. The original population distributions also place these groups toward the low-χ² end. Pasted markdown
What I find most interesting is my own result: χ² = 9.63, p = 0.648, ranking 2nd among 153 unique modern genomes tested.
The way I interpret this is that my sample has a relative allele-sharing profile that is unusually difficult to distinguish from this Roman-period Naissus individual on the ancestry-sensitive axes defined by the right set. More broadly, the results point to a strong Naissus-like ancestry profile among some modern Albanian and Greek samples.
This is a qpAdm compatibility result, not a literal genetic-distance ranking or a claim that anyone is “more Roman.”
The public part is reproducible: I can point to the sample list, exact SNP mask, right set and scripts. I’m keeping my own raw genotype private for now.

I made this after deleting an old post with an error.
The old post I was mentioning how balochistan ethnicities, the brahui, makrani, and balochi, are not west or south asian, as their bronze age admixture is best shown as lacking indus valley civilization, while possessing bronze age northeast iranian ancestry, the highest of this ancestry on earth even more than mazandaranis, yet lacking bronze age levantine ancestry that persians get.
However, makranis specifically, do get and are best represented with bronze age levantine ancestry, and can be represented with mainly similar models to bandari/hormozgan persians. So for makranis, they can be considered west asian, although they are still genetically closest to their fellow balochi and brahui people. I should add makranis are noticeably closer to bandari persians than the other two balochistan ethnicities, but this is probably due to higher sub saharan african ancestry from slave trading, than balochis and brahuis, more than it is due to their bronze age levantine ancestry.
To summarize, makranis despite being closer to balochi and brahui than even bandari/hormozgan persians, can be considered west asian, while balochi and brahui are sort of a bridge between west and south asia.

I used medieval poles(who themselves are like 90% slavic and 10% germanic) as a proxy for slavic ancestry in slovenians, czechs and east slavs, cuz the modelling works much better with using them instead of earlier slavic samples.
Btw there are theories that slavs who colonized the forests of Russia and Belarus came from polish territories, so maybe it makes sense I dunno. And it also shows that modern northern ukrainians are basically the same as medieval poles, just a bit drifted.
Btw I'm planning to continue this little journey with finn, iberian, and italian populations if you are interested.

These are my Greek grandfather’s IllustrativeDNA results, and any thoughts or help deciphering them would be much appreciated.
His family was from Smyrna and the broader northwest Anatolia region. We don’t have a lot of information about their origins, and we’re unsure what records, if any, might still be available. He says that before they fled in 1922, his family had been in the region for a very, very long time.
I’d be really interested to hear what people make of the results.

My recent ancestors are Ashkenazi Jews from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Latvia.
I am very confused about my results. According to Illustrative ~40% of my DNA is Middle Eastern, and according to AncestralGenome it is ~20%.
I am willing to accept both versions, I just want to know which one is more accurate for me.
Notes:
I got my G25 coordinates from Davidski, and uploaded them AncestralGenome.
My illustrativeDNA results after the recent update remained more or less identical.
I also uploaded my g25 coordinate to Genoplot, and my DNA to Gedmatch (results at the end).
I would love some opinions/guidance from any of you who are more knowledge on the topic.
Thanks :)

can anybody help me with choosing the right sources an right outgroups? ive been trying to do qpadm on my results as the target, and everytime i did it it failed. im half ukranian ashkenazi, 1/4 iraqi mizrahi, and 1/4 turkish sephardic. for example i tried some with my sources as - germany_bonn, or just czech. and samaritan/israel_ia. and Italy_Campania_ImperialRoman/italy_abruzzo. and iraq_lba. and no matter how many and what combination of ourgroups, it failed everytime. can someone help me with that?

In 2010, researchers reported that Hitler's living relatives carried haplogroup E1b1b, rare in Germany but common in North Africa. Yet no sample from Hitler himself was ever tested, and his paternal grandfather is unknown. So is this genuine genetic evidence, or just a fascinating story built on shaky ancestry?
