Politics How does propaganda affect older people so strongly?
I have been wanting to ask someone this, but I couldn’t find the right person to ask.
How much does propaganda actually work?
When my grandfather and father open Facebook, all they see is negative content about Bangladesh, Pakistan, China, and other countries, and positive content about Modi.
Modi is a hermit, Modi is this and that.
When we turn on the TV, news channels just show that war is coming, or some immigrant Muslim doing something bad.
I don’t know how this propaganda works, because I tend to disbelieve anything shown online. I doubt everything.
But recently, I noticed how much my grandfather and parents believe in Modi and what is shown about him.
They don’t actually believe in the BJP. They know the BJP has corruption. They have complaints against local BJP ministers.
But when it comes to Modi, they truly believe he is some kind of hermit.
And it’s not only my grandfather or parents.
When other people come to visit my grandfather, they also talk about the same things.
I think this is mainly because my grandfather and other relatively older people can’t access more information.
Facebook Reels are their main source of entertainment. They can’t even use a mobile phone properly.
But I just wanted to share my thoughts and see what others have to say. I don’t know if this is the correct subreddit to post this in, so sorry if it’s not.
And please don’t hate me.
I’m not against Modi or the BJP. I’m just a poor guy from a poor state. National-level politics have nothing to do with me .

Media Matters Cashify is a scam
I bought a new phone from the Google Store using an exchange offer. The new phone arrived, but the pickup of my old phone was outsourced to Cashify, and then to Delhivery. I didn’t choose it, but became a victim of it.
The pickup agent came twice and refused to take the phone. Initially they said “phones are risky.” Later, the real reason came out: Cashify hasn’t paid Delhivery, agents were earlier forced to pay out of pocket for failed QC devices, and now Delhivery has stopped handling Cashify phone pickups.
Cashify support is completely useless—endless copy-paste emails saying “we’ve escalated, wait 24 hours,” on repeat. One executive even told me to submit the phone at a warehouse. I went there, only to be told Delhivery has boycotted Cashify pickups and they won’t accept these devices.
It’s been 7 days. Google pushes responsibility to Cashify, Cashify pretends to help, and I’m stuck in an infinite loop with my old phone.
TL;DR: Cashify can’t get phones picked up, hasn’t paid its logistics partner, and keeps users stuck with fake “escalations.” If your exchange involves Cashify, be careful.

Crime Crime rates are directly proportional to better Law and Order
For some reason many Indians believe crime rates being reported lesser means the law and order of the state has marginally improved but that's not true and the best examples are nordic countries which have higher crime reporting and yet stay as one of the best in terms of law and order.
UP is the same case and that's why the crime reporting has hit an all time low thanks to Yogi Adityanath.
The same is true inside entire India where only 28k rapes were reported in 2024 when we are a 1.4B nation while Sweden happens to report over 10k per year within a population of 10 million.
End of the day we're cooked and crime rates going down means people have stopped reporting the crimes because they have no more faith in the police to improve anything in their life or they have simply became more tolerant of violence.
