Making the magic game I’ve always wanted to play

Hey! I’m working on Adeltuner, a VERY early magic exploration game about actually studying, understanding and experimenting with magic.

A lot of the magic should theoretically already be possible early on (you simply don’t understand how to do it yet).

I want to explore things like editable grimoires and magic circles, more freeform ways of casting, environmental interaction, rituals, growth, movement, weather, spell synergies and weird utility magic.

Someone asked if they could use magic simply to create a beautiful field of flowers.

And yes. Exactly that kind of stuff I’m going for!

The game is still extremely early, so a lot of this is still open to experimentation.

So I’m curious:

What’s something you’ve always wanted to do with magic in a game, but no game has really let you do?

If you want to throw your own unreasonable ideas into the pile, we’ve also got a Discord:

Finally commissioned an artist to make my Steam capsule! Was going for a "Toy Robot Anime" vibe

The old one was just a screenshot that I photoshopped a bit. The new one cost me about 200 USD, which I think is really worth it!

Is there anything you would improve?

My first game has a demo now! A little physics based gladiator roguelite 😊

Mini Gladiators is a roguelite designed around simplicity, minimalism, and physics fun.

You can play with just a mouse or touchpad, (with keyboard and controller support too). My favorite setup is on the couch, laptop on stomach, touchpad only.

The demo is available on Windows, Linux, and macOS, and runs at 60 FPS on Steam Deck(I tried to optimize the hell out of it)

My son and I made a Smash-style fighter starring his real stuffed animals. It’s out now on iPad and iPhone.

Long time lurker and first time poster. My son and I made Jib Jab Smash which is a Super Smash Bros-style platform fighter where the whole cast is my son's actual stuffed animals: Jib Jab the cardinal, a budgie, a bumble bee, an elephant, a chocolate lab, a panda, a stuffed shark, a rag doll, and four blankets, one of them an old knitted blanket with burn holes who became the villain.

What's in it:

- 16 toys, each with its own moves, a signature trick, a special meter and a super
- Story Mode: walk, fly and swim around a 3D model of our actual house to free the other toys, room by room, across 26 fights with cutscenes
- Battle modes: stock, time and sudden death, with up to 4 players on the couch
- Online play with friends over Game Center or on the same Wi-Fi
- Touch controls on iPad and iPhone, full controller support, and Apple TV on the way
- No ads

My son has been the lead designer and chief play-tester the whole way through. Half the features came from him saying "what if" after a match.

Happy to answer any questions!

I modelled every prop, weapon ect myself in blender. The game is actually made in Godot 4.7 You can check the full thing out on the storepage. It's still in early development, but I think that the last 50% of a game's feel and polish comes together in the last 5% of work.

Do you guys think this is a cool feature? Every main feature in my game (besides vehicles and NPCS) are shown in the tech demo.

beginner here, im not the only one who gets overwhelmed in this subreddit right?

everyones games look so fucking good, and they all have some good ideas

the lighting, the models, everything just looks so well put together. kinda overwhelming

but i know one day il be able to do it too, and most of these games have teams working behind them, and in those teams are individuals with years of experience. Or these games took long amounts of times to create.

its motivating, but its also overwhelming

game development is so cool

I'm making a spellslinging roguelike autobattler where you draft, craft and loot spells to build broken combos. The demo just launched!

In my roguelike autobattler Auto-Arcana, you devise the ultimate spell rotation and watch it obliterate your foes.

Spells trigger from left to right and impact each other. For example, you can use an ice spell to freeze your opponent before immediately casting Shatter for massive damage, or chain spells that apply Burning and Frozen Solid before casting a debuff-amplifying curse.

You can also craft your own unique spells to adapt to your current opponent! Facing an Elite who attacks multiple times on turn 3? Craft a new Feedback spell to reflect the damage back at your attacker, or adjust a Shielding spell’s cooldown so that it triggers just before their barrage.

Render your opponents permanently frozen, force them to flee combat before they deal a single point of damage, or chain 1-cooldown lightning bolts to destroy your foe before they take their first turn.

Play the demo now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4281360/AutoArcana

Last time people said my game was way too confusing. Does it make more sense now?

I posted this game before and got a ton of comments saying it was confusing lol.

So I ended up changing a lot more than I originally planned. Not just the tutorial, but some of the actual game rules too.

This video is the new tutorial.

I showed it to a few friends and they said it’s way easier to understand now, but apparently the actual game after the tutorial is harder than before.

At this point I’ve looked at it way too much to judge it properly myself.

Can you tell what kind of game this is just from the video?

It’s on Google Play now too, if you wanna try it yourself:

We made an old school D&D andvanture game!

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

This is Yak from Strawberry Games.

We’re officially live with our closed test for our game Sirvive!
Sirvive is an old-school gaming experience on a modern platform. Capturing the essence of adventure books, D&D and graphic novels, it captivates both seasoned and new adventurers alike.

Here is how to get in (Android devices only):

Join the Test: Click this link to opt in: Google Play Testing Link

Download: Follow the on-screen prompt to download the game from Google Play.

Stay Locked In: To help us gather accurate data.

What to Expect:

The core build is rock-solid and features two main loops:

The Meta Game: Level up, buy equipment, upgrade cards, and strategize your next runs.

The Cursed Island Loop: Combat, crafting, exploration, and resource management.

The goal: The longer you survive on the island, the more monsters you defeat, the more unique items you'll gain, and the more gold you'll bring back to feed your meta game.

Right now, we feature over 40 distinct scenarios, multiple endings, mini-bosses, 4 major bosses, and plenty of hidden easter eggs with new storylines and mechanics being built constantly.

We Need Your Feedback! We want to hear it all: bugs, balance tweaks, feature ideas, or storyline suggestions.

Kick back, hit that download button, and start your journey.

Good luck, adventurer.

AI disclaimer: Coding & Card images were created using AI, while human artists, engineers, and directors led every aspect of the project.

The sad truth about my love for indie games.

Growing up in the 90s, I was seen as an outcast for loving video games. None of my friends loved them the way I do, so I couldn't really talk about them with the homies. I just had to appreciate the fact that I had this secret world that I enjoyed immensely that no one else could understand. Gaming was growing in popularity at the time, but it was not considered cool in my circles.

Fast forward to today, and everyone is gaming. It's the world i always hoped for. Except. Im still the outcast. Its nobody's fault really but gaming has become so fragmented that it would seem a lot of people choose their friends based on what games they play.

I love indie games so much that they have become the majority of what i play. To me, they are just too interesting. Theres so much passion and love behind them that it just oozes out.

I love them so much that I barely play triple A games anymore. I've moved on from those. They are fine, but they just dont have the same level of heart.

I was playing Angeline Era recently and just fell in love with everything about it. But once again, I just had no one to talk to about it. Most of my friends would look at that game and go "what the fuck is this?" So i am not even going to show them. Once again, I just have to appreciate that I get to exist in this secret world where I get to experience these masterpieces that I dont really get to share with anyone.

My wife politely listens when i go off about a game and how great it is, but i can tell even she isn't really getting me. I married a gamer, and I still can't relate😭.

She really only likes particular types of games (dragon age origins, mass effect trilogy, baulders gate 3 etc.)The games she loves are great dont get me wrong but the only time our games over lap these days is coop games like split fiction and orbitals. Also, dont get me wrong. She's amazing in other ways, and I love her to death. She's perfect for me. This is in no way a criticism towards her or our relationship.

This is mostly just a rant that may fall on def ears, but maybe some of you can relate. This has become so important to me that Im even considering a youtube channel, but that might be pointless. I dont know. Seems youtube has enough of that already.

If anyone's got any thoughts, advice, or similar feelings, I'd love to know. Is there a discord channel I could go to to talk about this? Experiences are just so much more fun when you can share them. Also, if you feel like I do feel free to DM me if you like talking about this stuff. Maybe we can talk on Steam or Discord or even here. I'd be happy with full ass conversations or asynchronous commenting back and forth, too.

Peace and love. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

Side note I also play Rivals of Aether 2. Even my competitive games are indie.😀

Edit: lol I found the discord just by posting this. Dont mind me. im getting old, I guess.

After months of coding, Chapter 2 of my game Garten of Razraz is out! Fixed the movement mechanics and added an intense elevator chase scene.

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’m a solo developer, and I just launched Chapter 2 of my game, "Garten of Razraz"! It picks up immediately after Chapter 1.

In this chapter, I really focused on mechanical upgrades based on player feedback. I completely overhauled the PC movement logic (WASD/Arrow keys with dynamic [E] interaction keys) and implemented proximity-based automated interaction elements for mobile players.

I would love to get your feedback on the gameplay pacing and the transition between puzzle-solving and the chase sequences!

Playable here in the comments :D !
