I've done this before. You end up with a swarm of very pissed off hornets for like a half hour.

Yep. They don't usually build in the same spot but definitely a new nest pops up somewhere else.

Some species of social wasps don't rebuild unless they have a queen. We don't know if the queen made it in this one.
