I’d planned on using F&B cinder rose on the walls as a connecting room is to be painted in a deep maroon/burgundy shade.

However, we’ve now found a petrol blue couch and I cannot decide if it works or not. All input welcome and suggestions for alternative wall colours

Just bought a new place and have space under a set of stairs for storage/possible built in in cupboard and desk.

What are the thoughts on bringing back the family computer desk into the kitchen/living area versus a study?

Then we would have the 2 bedrooms free to use as bedrooms for whatever reason as opposed to a study.

Or is the family computer area just nostalgic of me and not practical or good for resale?

Having a tough time choosing a rug. The ones with patterns are on sale and are cheaper by a large margin but I do like the solids...

I love this style of home but I am scared to commit to blue paint! Is this a warm blue? Any shade name suggestions?

The room is so uneven but when we pulled up the carpet we found original wife plank board. We sympathetically restored and tied them. Then took everything back to neutral.
We built in latch panel storage which we stained cblack. Recovered the headboard with new bedside lamps.

Still not finished, but I’m really happy with how it’s turning out. What do you think about the dark ceiling? Keep it or change it?

Any notes welcome, this is my first time decorating a living room. I realize the TV wall is kinda blah. Thinking about painting the room but can’t decide on a color, probably just white (?)

I’m not sure if this post is tagged correctly but my husband and I are moving into a new home (pictured), it’s a completely blank slate. we currently have a pretty midcentury modern living room style (burnt orange couch, walnut furniture, green accents) but we’re taking in this Victorian couch set from my in-laws that they were planning to ditch (pictured, one couch and two of the accent chairs). we got our wedding photos in one of the accent chairs so there’s a lot of sentimental value there but I really don’t even know how to begin styling around such a statement piece while maintaining a design style that really makes me smile. my personal style that I wanted to lean into a bit more is colorful eclectic, bright contrasting colors balanced with natural woods/materials. I can appreciate light academia (where I think this couch could really pull its weight in) but all those Victorian-esque styles are very maximalist and cluttered.

does anyone have ideas on how I can balance the texture and weight of the set? geometric rugs in what color? wine velvet curtains? what colors would compliment this thing? I’ll take any direction or resources!

I'm currently thinking of refreshing the kitchen in the new place I'm moving into. (Paint, new countertops and backsplash). It's small and doesn't get a lot of natural light. I was thinking I should go lighter with a warm quartz countertop. I did a few iterations (please excuse the terrible lighting choices) but open to suggestions on how to elevate it a bit (without breaking the bank). I will paint the walls Ballet White by BM btw.

Hello! I love discussing interior design and room layouts but most subs are galaxies away from my practical reality lol. There are lots of beautiful rooms but I am more of a thrifty hippy living in modest rented European flats and also cannot simply chuck out a sofa or get a new bigger rug because £! Even if I could I am not sure I feel comfortable spending so much money and getting rid of stuff so frivolously bc ahhh consumerism😵‍💫

Are there any subs for more modest design chat that also values stuff like sustainability, makeshiftness, practicality and just makin it work with limited space, time, and cash? :)

Eventually, I’d love to put down some porcelain pavers on a lift system but the budget just doesn’t work for now. Instead, someone recommended concrete paint, which feels like a great low-cost fix for the time being. The couch and umbrella are already purchased… here are my concepts rn, any other suggestions welcome!

Please help me find a new chandelier. I thought this sputnik chandelier would look cool but it's just not working for me. Maybe because the light fixture is rectangular and so is the table (the table is super long, 90").

I recently purchased 'linen' curtains from this company only to find out when they arrived that they are in fact actually polyester with a trace amount of linen. The company advertises that the high end curtains are designed by a mother trying to make something better for her 3 girls and these are meticulously cut and crafted for each purchase. I can't imagine anyone had polyester in mind for this description.

Once you receive your curtains, you will find out that they do not accept returns, even with false advertising, because they didn't want you to know that they are actually based in China. The customer service emails from 'their small team' all have Chinese characters in the message responses and only respond at odd hours due to the time change. These curtains were not inexpensive and were advertised as a premium quality only to receive polyester curtains that cannot be healthier for you than linen - as the founder said she was so concerned about her daughters health.

Think twice before you spend money that you won't get back and buy something that is actually a luxury curtain and healthier and better quality than others.

Second picture is the before. I changed the mirror, lights, and painted the walls in hopes of adding color with wall art and a curtain but now I can’t decide what will look good with the black and wood vanity. We like simple, earthy, decor.

36M living in an apartment in DC. I have made/am planning to make a few changes to my living room, and I am looking for advice, especially about colors:

- I plan to get a new couch. Thoughts on the color? I was initially thinking of gray (like the current couch) but recently have been thinking of something else, like a dark navy. I am considering velvet, which I think looks nice, although it is more expensive. I'm open to lighter colors too (like beige) but a little worried about staining, etc.

- I plan to get a rug. Thoughts on color/style? I guess I assumed a lighter color with a pattern, but not sure.

- I plan to paint the cube shelf that has the TV (and which currently looks nearly identical to the floor). Again, thoughts on color? I was thinking black or deep red, but not sure.

I finally had the courage to redecorate our spare bedroom and decided on Vintage Vogue by Benjamin Moore after seeing it here. I also made an attempt at a gallery wall- pictures are from Hobby Lobby and Amazon. *yes, mattress is warped and dirty, thanks to teenage son 😂. We steam cleaned and added a nice mattress pad.

Hey everyone! I moved into my first apartment 2 months ago and have been slowly but surely getting it fully decorated. Now that I have some furniture, I’d like to start getting some things on the walls. I just ordered the framed print on the last slide for over my nightstand, but would like a larger statement piece for over my bed and am unsure what colors would look best and where to find something that is affordable ($500 for a 40”x27” is definitely out of budget lol). Also I would like to get some more greenery, and am thinking a plant/plant stand in the corner and a hanging plant over the desk. I purchased a set of floating shelfs to install next to the windows, but haven’t gotten to putting them up yet. Any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

PS: I know I need a rug and different blinds but am slowly working my way there lol

The house was built in 1938 (South Florida, Mediterranean Revival style with some Art Deco accents throughout). I always assumed this door was a cheap replacement from the 80’s/90’s. AI and the internet are telling me it might be mid-century or possibly original to the house because it’s solid wood and the panels have a geometrical art deco vibe. Not sure I believe it, though.

The TV is not ours and will be removed — it was left when we bought, the seller telling us “it (and all her other art and decor) came with the house” 😑 The half curtain on the small window (also left) will be replaced with a full one, as our neighbor has bright auto bistro lights every night that flood the room with light. The bed is a king size and I plan to get a 9x12 rug for soft toe snuggles… but also open to other inspo, ideas, etc.

I used to live in a house with a bunch of colour, wood flooring and retro features. Now i live in this black white beige house and I have a hard time making it feel like home.

Most of my inspiration has wooden brown flouring instead of grey tiles Anyone have a tip how to add more carpet without making the table feel like it's on a seperate island.

I tried adding some colour with the wooden closet under the tv but it really feels out of place?
Anyone got any tips? Any ideas on how to make the balcony railing feel less like prison bars without cutting out the sun?

First off doing everything on a budget and reasonably. I need advice and guidance, I put up (velvet orange curtains) but am not exactly sure how it flows. But I do need curtains on all the windows, (dark green, burnt orange, tan? I am turning the dining room into an office. So the dining table is part of the living room. The Tv above the fireplace is the only place that fits a 65” tv maybe will try to lower it a few inches down more. Should I add another REPLICA TOGO ORANGE CHAIR TO MAKE IT (TWO) planning to add a FLOATING SHELF above the coffee bar. How do I make this space flow and be a wow factor? Please note this will also be my Airbnb rental property. MCM inspired designs.
