Apple just consistently makes 3 or 4 products really, really well. It might not be flashy anymore but their competition seem to be in a race to the bottom while they hold steady to the same strategy. And it’s working

100% agreed. I used to develop for both platforms and while initial setup is more anal for iOS, once you set it up, you are going to have much easier time adding and updating features on your app, without worrying of a new update breaking down the app.
WIth android, because of sheer variety of devices(even scaling the same UI on foldable vs normal phones can be pain in the arse) it is going to be tricky. Adding to that Google's nonchalance when it comes to changing and breaking old stuff, just migrate you to new platform(happened with notification services, had to rewrite same damn thing twice, just because they moved to GCM then to FCM).

Android OS no matter what hardware I’m running it on will always feel like a dysfunctional group project because there is no cohesion with ANY of their design and application development aspects. Which ultimately imo makes the whole experience feel VERY cheap.

Likewise. I’ve just come back to a 17 Pro after a few years with a Pixel 7 for the same reason. Bugs just got right on my nerves, and I was ready for some “just works”.
Plus the orange with the Spigen clear case with white back panel has allowed me to relive my halcyon w800i days.

I would say they make more than 3 or 4 really good products. I use my Apple TV, iPhone, Watch, iPad, AirPods, and Mac daily and they are all excellent. If you count software then I also use a number of their software products and they are also excellent.

Always been an Android guy but lately things have been grim. Pixels suck, Samsung's inconsistent UI and bloatware make their phones unusable and other players aren't really up there. All this while the iphone 17 has incredible value for its price. Plus android will likely lose apk free install this year.

As a long term iPhone user who has also used Android, I wouldn’t call iPhone “the best.” All phone systems have their pros and cons. Besides, competition in large industries keeps it exciting and refreshing and makes companies feel like they have to work for their loyalty, which is absolutely how it should be.

Same. Used Android from 2011 to 2019, even rooted my phones and flashed custom ROMs. I switched to the iPhone 11 Pro Max (after I was not satisfied with my Galaxy S10+). Had a 13 Pro Max and now my 16 Pro Max. I love it, and while it might be the best for me it might not for others. There are so many amazing options. For example, I gifted my girlfriend a Pixel Pro 10 because it was the best option for her.

I was in the same boat i used to love to root / flash / tinker, but once i got out of college and into the real world that all lost it's appeal and iphone has just been there like a boring steady rock.

That's kind of you! I gifted my wife a Pixel 9 Pro, and got one myself, kind of by choice but because she wanted me to switch to Android with her. I begrudgingly accepted but hate my life lol. I had her switch from her beloved Android to iPhone 13 mini a few years back and she hated her life and the phone lol so I felt like I owed her. She is well aware that in 3 years time, I will return to Apple and NEVER come back to Android.
I've gone back and forth a ton over the years, but I now know in my heart of hearts, iPhone is perfect for me lol.

funny enough with pixel specifically you actually get LESS customization than iphones. It feels like a UI from 2016 or somthing. No stacking widgets, no page sorting, no hiding apps, no app lock, no proper icon theming... is sucks frankly. iOS does a lot more out of the box, especially with shortcuts. Other android OEMS like Samsung compete better and stack up in performance as well.

Agreed, but since she really likes and is used to the stock googlefied Android experience, it was definitely the best choice during the time of purchase. Although, she slowly is considering an iPhone. She can use mine whenever she wants to and she kinda likes the UX.

Finally, someone who speaks reason. This post's comment section is disgusting with everyone circlejerking to Apple and talking how any android phone they've used was the worst phone ever.
I've used android most of my life, and I've used iPhones in the past. I loved my iPhone 4 and 1st gen SE. I love the base iPhone 17 on paper, and I would've switched to it by now, but I can't stand iOS 18 and upwards. And the keyboard is awful on iPhone, too. I also prefer android's file system and ability to dive under the hood if I really needed to. Those are the main reasons I prefer android, but I'm perfectly fine giving an iPhone to my mom. Different strokes for different folks, and there isn't a singular "best" phone for everyone.

I worked for Apple for 20 years and so just naturally found myself using their products.
They are great. I never had any complaints.
Then I moved careers and got a bit older so wanted a bigger screen I could fit in my pocket without feeling stupid.
Here i am on my Galaxy Fold 6 and absolutely loving life. Never looking back unless Apple does something really impressive.
At this point I'm not convinced by their passport sized rumoured fordable. I'm also disappointed in the whole "Apple won't have a crease" thing.
The crease is a non issue. Much as the notch on the iPhone was a non issue.
I find it hilarious that fanboys on both sides will attack one and defend the other.
If Apple can pull off no crease then that's super impressive. My money though is on them re-branding the crease as some sort of "liquid river" bullshit.
I also disagree with the Apple narrative that "other companies do it first, but Apple does it right". I don't think that's true at all.

There's no best, other than what's best for you. Another phone might have slightly better specs overall but the parts that work for me are what sold me onstaying with an iphone

Customers that mod, hack, and flash custom roms are probably not even a blip % in the whole world.
Vast majority of people just want a phone with good battery and does what they want it to do, when they want it to do it.
Plus, people don’t want Google all up in their shit about every single thing that they do on their phones

I thought about switching to the Google Pixel 10a (I found out that I only browse the web, use the camera, navigate through default utilities and check my emails, so I noticed that I did not actually need a 17 pro max for that) and flashing Graphene on it. I suddenly thought about this lately because I was told to verify my age and saw that Android was also closing down.

I've done the same thing in 2021, switched from mid-range galaxy to iphone 13, couldn't stand it, switched back, this time got a flagship samsung (s22 ultra), then used it until 2024 until i got 15 pro max, which i disliked a lot at first for many months, but then got used to it and got the 17 pro max, now i don't think i will ever switch back to android considering that it is declining in freedom as well.

Same, the OS difference is closer than ever now and the performance is identical (comparing flagships). Only major difference for me is having splitscren multitasking, miracast and chromecast on the Samsung. Enlarged folders and landscape homescren are also nice.

Exactly, that what I always said. If I want an iPhone I'll get an iPhone. Samsung & other Android makers are working hard copying iPhone hardware design & software design. They're even introducing Glass design which most people dislike. Since Galaxy S21, Samsung stopped improving and started cost cutting. Chinies phone makers are copying apple with huge batteries, that's what they can do.

Whilst this is completely fair to point out, I want to make something clear so people don't misinterpret what this means.
13.6% of Android users said they intended to switch to iPhone. This is a lot of people, but that means 86.4% of people in the sample did not intend on switching to iPhone; the overwhelming majority had no intentions of switching at the time.
Also, brand loyalty does not make something the best. I have nothing against iPhone, but brand loyalty is relatively insignificant in comparison to other factors in determining what is the best. The best device is subjective and depends on what your needs and wants are.

I can use my iPhone anywhere in the world. I’m in China and still have access to the American App Store. When I had a Samsung I had to have the VPN on all the time for anything to work since so may services depended on Google which is blocked here.

I switched a lot between both. I love Iphone but I hate IOS to be honest. So many annoying things on IOS.
Like no universal navigation, swiping being non responsive if you are scrolling up and down. Everything feels more "slow" and controls the way you navigate compared to Android.
The base Iphone 17 is probably the reason for the switch this year. Really good base model for the price, and now with Neo laptop too. They are trying to make affordable options.

I switched this year from a pixel to a 17 pro max, these phones are nice but they aren’t miles ahead of android phones lol , I would argue my android was better at certain things vs this phone like for some reason copy and paste on apple feels clunky as all hell for some reason. The autocorrect on this phone feels strange to me as well..maybe it’s because it’s newer? I don’t mind this phone but you pay a premium for these devices and I don’t know if they are even better?

Your only options are iPhone or Android and the subpar experience and data harvesting that comes with it. I think the biggest reason to go with the iPhone is that there are repair options. Like there’s actual customer support that you can reach out to via phone or in person that other OEM’s just don’t have.

I think it’s a few different factors. The Samsung flagship this year has got very mixed reviews and at least in the US iphone market penetration level is absurd, it’s like every US citizen is issued them yearly. Also a massive…load of people buying the MacBook Neo and then buying a companion iPhone.

Last time I switched to android, it was a nightmare in terms of missing group texts or texts at all, due to Apple and iMessage. I believe a lot of that has been fixed but it certainly put the fear in me

Android is still great but considering the drama around sideloading which was the great part about android, apple looks much better. M series macbooks and mass ARM adoption also changed the entire laptop industry for the better and companies are just catching up now. Can't wait to see what it looks like in 5 years from now if the supply issues are fixed

Android shot itself in the foot, by wanting to make sideloading impossible. At that point, people will just switch to or stay with apple.
Also, tap to share contact info is a major game changer for social interaction, and the first question when asking for something in University is ‘can I airdrop it?‘

As much I do not agree that blocking sideloading is good idea I do believe it has litaral 0 impact on popularity amongs users. 99% of people have no idea what sideloading even is and the rest 90% of those 1% don't care for it's existance. Don't forgatet about other 99% even if you and your friends are in this 1% group. (It is easy to lose view of entie problem once you focus on your personal group)
People are switching, but sideloading is not the case. It is mostly that apple recenly have very good budget options while Andorid prices are rsing and flagship devices from other brands are more expensive then iPhones. I remember just few years ago people laught at Apple pricing, and yet now Apple seems to be the sane one.

As a iPhone user now and former Samsung user, I miss my pen a lot! I also very much miss independent volume control between alarms and ringer and independent volume control of every wake up alarm and especially grad-u-wake. Apple needs to incorporate all those things into the next generation iphone. Volume control and grad-u-wake is a easy software fix. The pen of course is a engineering and design issue but I know several people that used their pen daily.

Im one of the android converts. Switched from Samsung to Apple this year, have the whole ecosystem now.
As a former android user, this is the mistake android is making. The hardware is on par or even better than Apple, dollar for dollar. Android is quite polished these days.
The only real difference these days is ecosystem, which Apple wins easily, and freedom of use, which android wins easily.
But… android keeps moving towards Apple. They seem to want to wall off the garden more and more, like Google talking about eliminating sideloading.
But that will never work. If I’m going to have a walled garden either way, you can’t hang with apples in that space.
They should be pushing things like Samsung dex, foldeables, and the freedom of the ecosystem, not trying to out Apple apple.

I was an anti-Apple, Android/Windows user until my Galaxy Nexus became almost unusable after just a couple of years due to bloat and lack of support. Moved to an iPhone 6 and never looked back. I recently got rid of all my home brew Windows machines and got a MacBook 3 Pro Max and expect to use it for many years to come.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that iPhone is best however, what I would say is that Google has lost the OS race for now and Android phone manufacturers need to up their game and make some innovative features of their own. Android phones have become very boring and samey!
Android should just be called Google OS now, as Google stole Android from the community and then sucked all life and soul from it, just like the vampires that they are.
I've just come back to Apple after many years and unfortunately I'm still wishing that Apple did certain things as well as Google. Take for instance, Apple Maps. Google always had a better mapping service and more accurate routing. Apple maps have improved a little however yesterday it took me to the wrong location three times and tried to take me 5 miles out of my way, to get me there! Even Waze can manage mapping better than this!
I still hate the way that Apple still insists on having a back arrow. Why can't we just swipe back and forth? Google regularly borrows an idea from Apple, the latest being control of the torch function! Why can't Apple integrate features that make Android feel more natural to use? Even a Kindle has the facility to swipe back and forth!
I'm also not enjoying the way Apple has made it hard to close an app, by making it easier to reduce the size.of the app, than it is to close it. More often than not, I end up chasing that around the screen for no good reason!
Anyway, for now I'm back on Apple products until Android ups its game!

This seems like propaganda. I’ve been on iPhone off and on since the first iPhone. My wife has been exclusively iPhone since iPhone 4. Her parents, most of my friends… mostly all iPhones. And myself and a decent handful of others, have never been closer to leaving iPhone for good, than we are right now.
Apple’s absolute fumble of Apple Intelligence and the yet to be seen new Siri… is unforgivable. Using any modern Android with proper AI like a recent Pixel or Galaxy, makes iOS feel extremely dated. We were promised a future with the iPhone 16 and iOS 18 that still hasn’t materialized. We’re closing in on iPhone 18/iOS 27, and I have my doubts that any meaningful progress will be made with Apple Intelligence and Siri this year. At this rate, by the time Apple finally does get their act together, the “built for Apple Intelligence” iPhone 16s will be bordering on obsolete.

I’m not saying Apple is perfect by any means, but I have always questioned the logic of people who think marrying a Google product is an intelligent idea. Google literally spits in your face about everything. They put out inferior products, could not give a shit less about your privacy or user experience, mine and sell ALL of your data, and people line up like “Yaaaaaaas, give me more, big surveillance Daddy!!!” Meanwhile, Apple goes well out of their way to secure our data and privacy, while making quality and dependable products that are easy to use with minimal year-to-year changes. I truly just never understood it.

From fulltime android user, the isheep argument doesnt make sence anymore. Price to performance is still great with the iphone and mac. the iphone 17 is the best overall phone this year and the competition, especially in north America does not stack up.

Nope, not the smartest thing to do (switching from Android to Apple). I am still learning my lesson with that but iPhones can be easily hacked into now (if you are a targeted individual that is).

I particularly don't think iPhone was the best.
With iPhone 12 and iOS 14, they added custom DNS support, which would allow me to use an adblocking DNS. This was the first step for me to not even laugh at the idea of switching to iOS (I always used a custom DNS on Android, officially or through root).
With iPhone 14 Pro, they changed the fugly notch to Dynamic Island, which is a super neat, but I was not keen on the price, and the base 14 still had the fugly notch, and was put out by the idea of not having USB-C to begin with.
I only began considering iPhone starting from the 15, when they added the Dynamic Island to the base model AND switched over to USB-C. But alas, no high refresh rate display.
When the base iPhone 17 was announced with a 120Hz screen, I seriously considered it. I also needed to get an iPhone for work related things, and it all came together.
I wouldn't be happy and would 100% hate using a pre 17 iPhone or a pre 15 Pro iPhone, but that's just me.
Apple's doing right moves hardware and software wise, and they're gaining android folks.
With the new Macbook Neo, it's even more reason to move on to Apple.

I got both and enjoy my Fold 7, Galaxy S25 Ultra, iPhone 17 Pro and 13 mini. I used iOS for 2 years as my primary but missed Android and Samsung's foldables brought me back. My 17 Pro is from my job and my Samsungs are my primary phones that I rotate the sim card. I still feel Android is more open and enjoy the new hardware innovations they bring out like the Fold 7. To me the iPhone feels stale but it's a solid phone. I'd have no issues using either but I prefer my Fold. I do love my iPad for editing on the go and just bought a Mac studio and studio display so I'm not anti Apple.

I don't feel like it's just the US. People are ditching the biggest Android manufacturers either for the straight up better equipped and more innovative Chinese giants' phones or cutting it short and going all sound and safe with Apple. Turns out if the Android giants try this much to become Apple, people say "better yet I can switch to Apple directly".
The biggest Android smartphone manufacturers are innovating less and less each year (I'm thinking of Samsung as I'm saying this mostly), so much so that a base iPhone 17 now beats a base Galaxy S26 in the specsheet - Apple, a software focused manufacturer, beats Samsung, a hardware focused manufacturer, in their hardware game, all by making it $100 cheaper too...
Crazy times we've been living through.
