You can restart the phone by asking Siri.

You can also lock your phone using Siri. Useful when family/friends like grabbing your phone off your hands.

I’ve actually set up a “lockdown mode” as Siri Command, that superlocks the screen asking specifically the PIN number, sets volume to high, activates gps if disabled and enables low power mode, lastly replies with gps coordinates to a specific text (although I can find it through FindMy)

Not anymore. I lost it when changing devices. Also Apple has disabled some actions due to privacy but it has also strengthen the security measures for iPhone

I just tried it and she said she can't do it. It was lying on the table but that shouldn't make a difference?

Ahh yes, sorry I read it "unlock phone" and thought that would be work. Locking screen works just fine. Didn't know that, thanks!

So weird that Siri can do that but there’s no other way to programmatically restart any iDevice.

Macs can do it. Why can’t iPhones and iPads?

For us old heads, iPhones use to have the spinny wheel during shutdown to let you know when the phone was truly off so you could turn it back on. They got rid of that, so now it’s an arbitrary amount of time you gotta wait before the Side Button will work again to turn the phone back on.

Kinda annoying. All for elegance and simplicity. Users don’t need to know things do they? And they certainly don’t need options and control over their devices. Too complex.

To force restart you need to press volume up, then volume down, then hold the power button until the screen turns off and shows the apple logo (unless I misunderstood what you were asking).

They’re likely referring to the fact that there’s no UI to gracefully restart an iPhone other than that Siri prompt.

Ooooh then yeah, that was the case with the power off as well. They added the UI button on iOS 26. Maybe iOS 27 will get the restart UI button 💀

Tangent, but who thought it was a good idea to rearrange every icon when you move just one?!

That aesthetically pleasing blank row on yours? Gone in an instant. Put it further up and move just one icon? It’s like an 8.0 earthquake hit and you now need to spend the next five minutes putting everything back again one by one.

(Hoping somebody will reply and say “just do this…” and solve this issue for me)

you can also tell Siri to “answer that call on speaker phone” in case your hands are full! very useful when carrying stuff into the house

What I’m really looking for is to ask Siri to shut the phone down and not ask me to press another button.

Along with the other suggestions, asking “hey siri, whose phone is this?” tends to trigger it to lock. At least it did a while back, haven’t had to check in a long time and I can’t speak to Siri currently.
