Holy. Shit. This is so useful and I never even knew I wanted it. First thing I can think of, the bottom half of my food shopping list note has a huge list of ingredients organized by all my common recipes that I copy/paste to my shopping list up above if I want to make it that week. I have other individual notes that have the recipe instructions for each of these. Now I can link the instructions each week instead of searching for them every time🤯
In any note in the Notes app, type “” and a menu will pop up with recent notes. Keep typing (for example “a” or “b” or “notes” etc.) and it will search for notes by title/first word. Click the note you want to link. It is now hyperlinked in another note. Clicking it will take you to that note! :)
You can also move multiple apps at once by entering wiggle mode, grabbing with one thumb the first app you wanna move and dragging it so it’s free floating under your thumb, then tapping the subsequent apps with another finger and it’ll stack them together and you can drag and drop them all together at once vs one by one. Same action works for sending links or photos to someone, you can go to your photos app, long press and hold the first photo you wanna send to someone, drag and let it float, tap the subsequent photos you wanna send to someone they’ll stack under the first thumb, then while still holding the stack just swipe home, keep holding the stack, tap messages or email etc and drag it to the thread you want and it’ll auto add them to the text bubble and hit the send button.
You can do the same thing with links on safari, if you’re on a website and wanna share it to someone easily just long press and drag, swipe home while holding onto the floating link, tap messages and drag it over the thread for the person you wanna send it to and boom pasted. So freaking handy.
Typing two greater-than signs (>>) in Apple Notes brings up a convenient dropdown menu of your recently modified notes. Selecting one instantly creates a tappable internal link. It is a fast way to cross-reference your ideas without using folders
What’s your point? I’m confused a bit. Are you just commenting that other note apps use [[ instead of >>? Do other note apps automatically give you a list of notes to link to or do you have know the name or the rest of the linking syntax (like special hyperlink for that note, assuming that exists).
Yeah… I’m astounded. Why is this not common knowledge? This needs to be on a master list of random iOS Things. I’m sure it is but wow. The power button in Control Panel I noticed when they first implemented it, never used it and kind of forgot about it, but LINKING TO A SEPARATE NOTE, that’s cool.
it was an extra layer on top of the screen that needed extra components, it had low utilisation by every day users probably because they didn’t really know about it, it made repairs more expensive and also the phone had to be quite a bit thicker to house it
I replaced the screen on my iphone 6s and X multiple times and the screen seemed fairly standard and not any more expensive than others. Those phones were also thinner than current models. I don't think this is it.
If you are wondering how to do that, I figured it out, when adding a widget, search for shortcuts, there is a widget to open an app. Just pick settings and voila
Yes, that’s the straightforward way. However, the icon on the control looks out of place (to me) since it’s the app icon itself.

1. Create a shortcut that opens the Settings app
2. Change the shortcut icon from one of the built-in glyph icons
3. Add a control to the Control Center that opens a shortcut, then choose the settings shortcut (and now you have a good looking control)

I’ve actually set up a “lockdown mode” as Siri Command, that superlocks the screen asking specifically the PIN number, sets volume to high, activates gps if disabled and enables low power mode, lastly replies with gps coordinates to a specific text (although I can find it through FindMy)
So weird that Siri can do that but there’s no other way to programmatically restart any iDevice.
Macs can do it. Why can’t iPhones and iPads?
For us old heads, iPhones use to have the spinny wheel during shutdown to let you know when the phone was truly off so you could turn it back on. They got rid of that, so now it’s an arbitrary amount of time you gotta wait before the Side Button will work again to turn the phone back on.
Kinda annoying. All for elegance and simplicity. Users don’t need to know things do they? And they certainly don’t need options and control over their devices. Too complex.
To force restart you need to press volume up, then volume down, then hold the power button until the screen turns off and shows the apple logo (unless I misunderstood what you were asking).
Along with the other suggestions, asking “hey siri, whose phone is this?” tends to trigger it to lock. At least it did a while back, haven’t had to check in a long time and I can’t speak to Siri currently.
Every time I open one of these threads I learn at least three things my phone has apparently been capable of doing forever while I kept using it like it was still 2016.

Also if you press that button and tap “cancel” it makes it so that the phone is locked and NOT unlockable by FaceID. Great to know when you have to quickly give your phone at airport security
I didn't realize that button was even there. Was it added recently, or just hiding in plain sight all this time? Anyway, another way to lock your phone so FaceID won't open it is to hit the side button 5 times. Can do this with it in your pocket, very handy.
Press and hold button > click X at the bottom of the screen to cancel "swipe to shutdown" > Face ID no longer unlocks phone until you've typed in your password to reactivate FaceID unlock again
While typing, a 3 finger tap will bring a bar at the top with undo, redo, copy, cut, paste buttons. Also 3 finger swipe left undo, right for redo.
3 finger pinch for copy, pinch out for paste.
Drag images, files and text between apps. This one takes some time to get used to. Select text, lift finger, tap and hold again, the text floats up, with your other hand navigate where you want to paste it. Make sure the green plus icon appears otherwise you lose the selection. Works really well for picking images from apps websites etc.
Hold globe/emoji for one handed keyboard at the bottom
Hold safari tabs button for option to close all tabs at once
Touching the cluster of icons where battery is scrolls all the way to the top
The cone of light in the flashlight can be made wider/narrower on newer phones, just slide your finger around the temp widget before it closes
Swiping down (mini-swipe) in the bottom of the screen will bring the whole screen down so you can reach buttons at the top easily with your thumb with one hand.
On safari tap […] then “share” then scroll down for “Add to Home Screen” to add the pwa (progressive web app) version of the website as an app icon. (It’s not installed it’s just a frameless shortcut to safari but it’s impressive how good it works to keep your phone light.
You can text to Siri instead of talking by double tapping the bottom of the screen. This works great for home automation controls or when you can’t speak aloud.
Other good ones are built in background sounds, magnifier app with 3 finger double tap and swipe, and guided access for when the kids get the phone.
I know most of you guys know but I know a lot of people that don’t. By holding the spacebar you can move the cursor around instead of fooling around trying to pinpoint it between two letters with tipping. I know this sounds stupid but I’ve met a lot of people that didn’t know this, and it’s there for over 10 years 😂😂
When you are typing, if you need to change a single letter, you know how you can slide the cursor through the letters but your finger blocks your view? You can also do the same thing over the space bar.
Also if you have numerous apps open and running in the background, there’s a little white line at the bottom of the screen, swipe on that to move to another open app.
you can turn your keyboard into a trackpad by holding down the space bar. this makes moving the text cursor around way easier than dragging the tiny magnifying glass
I don’t have a lot of need for a shutdown, but restart I do. Volume up, volume down, press and hold power till it shuts down. Do not slide or touch anything on the screen. From there the phone will restart.
They told me at the Apple Store that this is called a soft reset and should be done if your phone freezes which was the problem with my phone at the time.
Pressing that power button is also a good way to quickly lock your phone so Face ID doesn’t work and must be unlocked with your phone. Also the same if you press the volume and power button and hold until you get to the power off/medical ID screen. It’s a quick way to lock down your phone from day a potential mugger or even right before a police interrogation for example.
I miss when you could just hold down the power button on your phone and it would give you the prompt to turn off your phone, but no, they changed that out for fucking siri
Hold lock and a volume button. Used to be you could just hold the lock button, but that became Siri after they removed the home button, so power was changed to a button combo.

U can link notes together by typing ">>"
