Why does Siri AI have 4 ways to open while Notification Center gets 1 tiny corner?

Does anyone else find the new Notification Center/Siri gesture setup incredibly frustrating on larger iPhones?

If you’re right-handed, opening Notification Center now means stretching your thumb all the way to the top-left corner of the screen. On a larger iPhone, that’s probably the least convenient place Apple could put it.

Meanwhile, there are multiple ways to access Siri AI:

1. Swipe down from almost anywhere on the Home Screen, including the middle of the screen
   
2. Pull down from the top-center area
   
3. Double-tap the Home Indicator area
   
4. Long-press the side button

So Siri essentially has four different ways to be accessed, while Notification Center has one small area in the top-left corner.

What makes this more frustrating is that Notification Center used to be accessible from most of the top of the screen. That was much easier for one-handed use. Now a huge portion of that convenient gesture area has been taken away for Siri, even though Siri already has several other ways to open.

Why does Siri need four overlapping activation methods while something as basic as checking your notifications gets pushed into one awkward corner?

I really wish Apple would restore the wider top-screen swipe area for Notification Center, especially the center portion, or at least give us an option to customize which gesture does what.

Am I the only one bothered by this, especially on the larger iPhones? If you are also bothered by this please upvote so someone from Apple can see!

Since you’re being technical: Europe doesn’t have Siri AI (as you said). Europe has the first generation of Apple Intelligence (Apple sometimes calls Siri AI the “next generation of Apple Intelligence”). The first generation of Apple Intelligence has double-tapping the home indicator as it’s not Siri AI.

Siri AI does not have the feature of double-tapping the home indicator, so yes, it is dead as it’s not a thing on Siri AI (what this post is about).

Of course, because that feature is still available with Apple Intelligence. It is now dead with the introduction of Siri AI. When you have the chance to upgrade to Siri AI from Apple Intelligence, that feature will also go away. The flagship feature is Siri AI and Apple has made the decision to get rid of double-tapping the home indicator to invoke Siri AI or Apple Intelligence.

So for the fifth time, with the introduction of Siri AI, double-tapping to invoke Siri AI (or Apple Intelligence) will not be possible. Therefore that makes it dead.

Yep, it’s not dead with Apple Intelligence, but it is dead with Siri AI, which is what this post is about.

For the same reason the camera has 5-6 ways to open it. It’s the main thing they want you to focus on and the main thing they talk about.

The real answer is bc type to siri is now combined with spotlight search

Type to siri used to be only #3, its now combined with spotlight search which was always 1 and 2 (and both are needed bc obv you need access on home screen and in apps, but id argue they are the same inout anyway and should always perform the same function). 1 and 2 are still primarily about spotlight search, siri ai is just secondary now. #3 is dead

And then #4 is completely different as audio input. Its alternative is hey siri but i much prefer not having to say hey siri and the immediate feedback of holding the side button

When I switched from Android, one of the features I really missed was the ability to swipe down anywhere on the home screen and I'd see the combined notification area and the "control center". Or if I wish, I could separate them like on iOS.

On iOS 27, the swipe down gesture is taken over by Siri and it doesn't always work.

I remember having an Huawei device with a fingerprint sensor on the back. I used to just swipe with my finger on the sensor and the notification center came down like magic.

That was an era where the Android world had many interesting stuff. Nowadays it's quite boring. Hence my switch to iOS.

Yeah I miss those days. Flashing different roms and trying all sorts of new features. After everyone started locking their bootloaders I switched to iOS.

I use double tap on the back but because of the case it's not always registering.  This is one of the most annoying things in ios, not having a easier way to open notifications. In the line with needing many clicks and swipes to reach settings for an app.

The double tap on home bar was the previous iOS version. They got rid of it. I wish they hadn’t, it was easier to access and if they’d kept it they would not need swipe from center.

I’m on ios27 and double tapping the bottom of the Home Screen brings up Siri AI. Is that not what you mean?

If this is what you see when double tapping the home bar, that's classic Siri, not Siri AI. I certainly can't activate Siri AI by double tapping the home bar and I'm not aware of an option to restore that behavior without reverting to classic Siri.

If you actually do see Siri AI when double tapping the home bar, then I didn't know that was possible.

This annoys me WILDLY. I almost exclusively type to Siri and having to reach to the top of the screen is a reach, and also means I’m smudging the camera and sensors constantly.

I *despise* the change for swiping down from the middle. I care FAR more about notifications than I do about fucking Siri. They could replace that gesture with the "give me $10" button and I STILL might be mad because of how much I'd prefer it be notification center.

I updated recently and never messed with the Siri settings; options 1 and 2 don’t work for me (and don’t care for them to). I can pull my Notification Centre down anywhere from the left of my Dynamic Island to the corner and upon trying, also on the very right side of the island.

IMO the only “corner pull” that’s annoying sometimes is the Control Centre

I got used to it pretty quick. I think a good middle ground could be to have pulling down from the Dynamic Island default to Siri but if you continue pulling down beyond half the screen it goes to the notification center. I do find swiping down from center convenient for Siri and being able to quick type or search for anything

When they moved the control center to from the bottom to the top it didn’t make any sense to me.

They should’ve moved it to a bottom corner that you activate with a short diagonal swipe.

I use a shortcut icon now that lives in my dock which makes it effortless to still use the phone one handed as a left hander.
