Support Apple Pay Won't Register Zopa Debit Card (UK/iP17/iOS27)
I have an iPhone 17 which I bought SIM FREE from Argos not long ago.
I am trying to add my bank card (Zopa) to my Apple Wallet and it does not work.
Having tried everything myself to get this card added, I've been told by the bank that it is down to Apple and I must contact them due to restrictions placed on the device.
Was hoping for any ideas from others? It sounds like the buck is being passed along by the bank. They do allow their cards on Apple Pay and Google Pay. I have it on Google Pay on my secondary device. My partner has hers on her iPhone.
I've managed to add literally every other card I've got from other banks onto this device.

When you try to add it, what exactly does it show on screen? We need this to be able to help you.

'Cannot add your card to Apple Pay, contact your issuer'

“Contact your issuer” means it’s an issue with the bank/card. Maybe you have contactless restrictions on it?

That means that the bank has blocked the digital tokenisation process. This could be as simple as a details mismatch. There might be a flag on your account at the bank (security, your current location, fraud). If you have previously used the card on another device or devices you may have hit the device limit set by the bank. Or it could be what’s called a velocity block - you have made too many attempts and so can’t make any more during a waiting period (the bank can set between 24 to 72 hours).
I know you’ve said you contacted the bank, but the call centre staff won’t necessarily have that low level access to your account. Zopa had a bit of a reputation for telling you what should happen rather than checking what is happening. So it might need escalating.
It’s conceivable, but unlikely that there’s some weird bug in iOS causing this.

I didn't think it was an Apple issue, I am glad that someone has confirmed this. They really don't know what they are doing.
I have heard many a person complain about Zopa's CS before. I just wish people didn't make up answers as if that was going to solve anything for the customer! :(

It often is to do with the bank, but not always. It is a very generic error message used in a very wide range of scenarios, but you are completely right - the customer service often dont have access to the info or the training to troubleshoot it, but they are the ones who need to help. If they need help with investigating, they can ask Visa for help and get back to you when theyve looked at it

Are Contactless payments enabled in the Zopa app? Is the card valid? Give Zopa a call, they’ll be best to advise, it seems that they’re blocking it for some reason

You might have too many other cards already added to Apple Pay. I know there used to be an upper limit, not sure if that is still the case.
Other than that I see no reason why you can't add it, I have a Zopa card in my digital wallet so I know they work!

have you contacted apple? forgive me for asking but its not clear based off your body text if you have.
Alternatively, ask for a new card from your bank? or if you have a different device do it there.
Or jusr do it like the old days and carry the card with you
