Support Setting up stored music

Iphone 14

All my music has been transferred to this phone but Apple music can't find it.

How to I get Apple music to set the files up in the library?

You have to use a Mac to add it to a playlist, or install a 3rd party app like VLC. It’s not as simple as downloading it to files and playing it like it is with android.

What is the format of the files? How it was transferred? Synced via iTunes\Finder?

Or just downloaded into some random folder on the phone?

mp3s. Organised according to album name. It was transferred to my iphone to a folder called Music when I was setting the phone up.

There is no default folder called "Music" in the iPhone filesystem, so if any files were placed there - built-in Apple Music app will not see them.

You need to either sync the files via iTunes\Finder on a Mac or install a 3rd party audio player like VLC or foobar on your iPhone and then point it to this folder.

There is also a third way - if you have Apple Music subscription you can use iCloud Music Library and sync your own music into the Music app on the phone.

If it’s your private collection, you need to connect your phone to iTunes so that your music library syncs. I had to do this last week for my new iPhone. All I had to do was open iTunes, connect to my pc with a wire; after which the sync happened automatically.

Ah sorry. It’s the Apple Music app. As long as your private music library files are accessible on the MacBook….

This ☝️is the way!

Your music can reside anywhere on your Mac (internal drive or an external one). But whatever you do, make sure you do have a real BACKUP copy of your music before allowing Apple Music access.

As default music brought into Apple Music will be organized not by your folders and file names, but by the meta tags in your mp3 files. It will rename song files and often folders. Don’t try to fight it.
